World Cup 2018

Is England better off on setpieces than other teams? I think I remember earlier in the tournament one of the commentary teams said that, but they seem to score a disproportionate amount of their goals on setpieces

The highest quality team doesn’t always win. They were better than Belgium in every facet of the game yesterday, but that’s soccer. Didn’t you make the ridiculous comment earlier that Germany could somehow compare to Brazil? If you don’t think that they dominated every game they played, just go back and check the stats. Numbers don’t lie. Due to the limited amount of scoring in the game, the final result doesn’t always reflect who played better. You know that, so don’t come at me with your nonsense.

So much for your book learnin’!

I am always right. If there is any discrepancy between me and what reality claims, reality is wrong.

I know this wasn’t actually addressed to me, which is just another example of how reality is wrong.

0-2 here

BBC just had a graphic with England at the top for goals scored from set pieces (8 out of 10)

7-1

The other post was your predicting a Brazil victory.

They are very well drilled on them certainly, I think Southgate makes a priority in general regarding being prepared and organised.

Of course, a point I’ve made before is that, if you are going to do well off attacking set-pieces…you must already be attacking!

Anyhow. A slow start but a very competent first half from England with a couple of very good incisive through balls. They certainly deserve to be at least one ahead as Sweden have offered very little…yet!

It should be three but for Raheem Effing Sterling. He did the same for Man City in the disastrous three match stretch against Liverpool.

Yes, I remember. Different team. Also no Neymar. In that game, the better team did win. Happens sometimes. But check how many consecutive times that Brazil has made it to the QF’s, and compare that to anyone else. Also, Malaga-Las Palmas games can be entertaining at times.

The problem with your argument is that 1) This isn’t the Pele nor Zico nor Ronaldo Brazil. 2) Brazil’s results on the pitch have been pedestrian for a side claiming greatness. It took almost 90 minutes to put one in against Costa Rica, 70 against Mexico. 3) For all the chatter about Neymar, is he even one of the 5 best players at this WC? 4) Brazil have done nothing for years to claim that they are the best National side in the world.

Brazil soccer is like USA basketball; an old man living in the past with delusions of grandeur. The world has caught up.

2-0

England coming together at the right time. All credit to Southgate for brilliantly managing this WC.

Brazil were the better team in every game they played this tournament. They were deserved favorites going in, but still only like 20% to win the whole thing.

2-0 England. The idea that they would have no chance in this game is utterly bizarre to me.

Great save from Pickford at the start of the half but England are certainly being more creative.

Lovely little knock in for the second.

OOOO! just as I type, another great save.

England are going to only have to win one game against a decent team to win this WC. Same as Portugal in the last Euros actually.

Sweden with a great attack there. Should be 2-1.

They clearly weren’t the better team against Belgium and its a toss up against Switzerland. You have to prove you are the better team on the pitch and on the scoreboard.

Pickford makes the difference to many other English teams of the last, well, of all the English teams I remember. Great goalie they have at last.

What a ridiculous comment unless Russia upset Croatia. The Germanys, Brazils, Italys, Argentinas, Hollands, Chiles aren’t alive for a reason. This isn’t Football Manager. Reputation counts for nothing.

The lesser team loses all the time. Otherwise every league would finish with an undefeated team every year.

You’re either being blinded by hatred of Brazil or just being stubborn. Either way, not really a fruitful conversation.
