World Cup 2022 - discussion, predictions, and thoughts

Mexico had the right idea, Argentina was just much better at dosing their efforts.

Mexico were too passive. You cannot only count on your defense for the whole game against a team like Argentina.

Argentina’s defensive focus is well suited to knock-out stage matches against more talented teams, if they get there. Probably going to need to generate more chances though. Messi’s not going to score 20+ yard golazos 6 games in a row (I think).

A very important win for Argentina, as I think it’s imperative for them to win the group, and not just advance. A 2nd place finish means France in the RO16. And I’m sure France doesn’t want that either.

WE ARE STILL ALIVE!

Thanks Diego!

Give credit where credit is due. This time it was thanks to Messi.

Messi is His representative on Earth.

Ah, I understand, just like Jesus for the big guy.

“Just like”? they are the same :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok, then I hope that nobody will nail Messi to a cross if you don’t win this thing…

It’s always a possibility, some already did, when we couldn’t seem to win anything with him.
I’m just always grateful to him for always coming back the the Selección, in the face of sometimes ferocious media crucifixions. The man truly loves us for some strange reason.

Late with this observation but it appears that the last minute call up of Tim Ream was a pretty good decision of Berhalter’s.

Yeah, I was extremely concerned that the US was going to start Aaron Long at LCB. Kudos for Berhalter to very quickly decide that wasn’t the solution given Long’s performances earlier this year.

My understanding is that Ream might not have made the team without a couple of injuries (one being Chris Richards), but whether true or not, having him at the back with his Fulham partner has been terrific.

Queiroz lashes at out Klinsmann. Good. That diving fuck has no grounds to call anyone out on their style of play.

What is this in reference to?

Klansman said that cheating is in Iranian culture on BBC.

ETA: Klinsmann not Klansman. My auto correct does have a sense of humour.

xG for the first half of Japan - Costa Rica of 0.05. Sounds like a real barnburner.

So Germany could lose to Spain and still get through, if they beat Costa Rica and Spain beats Japan?

Yes. In that scenario, Spain would have 9 points, and the other 3 teams would each have 3 points. So it would come down to goal differential. Right now, Japan is at 0; Germany is -1; Costa Rica is -6.
