In cricket we say, don’t offend the woofing gods.
I need to learn cricket since I and about half the population of Argentina have suddenly decided to be fans of the Bangladesh national cricket team (we defeated India yesterday by one wicket! (whatever that is) )
See, I’m happy to watch suffer your boring little game where 4-1 is a high scoring match. But please don’t start on the glorious game.
We just had a match where almost 1800 runs were scored. Eighteen hundred!
I wasn’t dissing Cricket man!, we are truly trying to learn because people in Bangladesh have shown so much support for our football team that we decided to reciprocate.
The Japanese played a great game. Their positioning is very good and they can turn on a quick surge which effectively presses its opponents. They seemed rattled by the penalty kicks, unfortunately.
I hadn’t seen Korea play yet. Brazil with Neymar is better than Brazil without. It wasn’t a close or entertaining game, sadly, to take nothing away from South Korea. I know why the penalty kick was called, but there was no intent in my opinion and it was a rare weak decision from mostly very good officiating.
That penalty is one of the reasons I would support the ability for a ref to declare a foul in the box a direct free kick if it isn’t a goal scoring opportunity. Richarlison was heading away from goal with that touch and the foul in no way stopped a scoring chance.
Loved this article about a guy who can identify where a team comes from by how they take their corner kicks.
Well, Bierhoff is already gone, he quit yesterday on his own because the public pressure became overwhelming. Now there’s speculation about Flick following him, because he was very close to Bierhoff. Maybe his decision depends on who will be Bierhoff’s successor.
I’m not sure what’s going on with my YouTubeTV account but I’m only getting the early games on Telemundo. Spain v Morocco only there right now. Eff it, signing up for Fox 4k - I know they have them all. It’s kind of a rip-off though. $10 a month for a year and then it doubles. I read the fine print. Free week, however; let’s hope I remember to cancel it.
Very good Moroccan performance in the first half. They almost totally neutralized the Spanish offense and clearly had the better chances. Of course Spain had their usual 66 % or so possession, but not a single good chance.
Sit deep against Spain and let them pass it in front of you seems to be the best tactic to beat them. But you do feel Morocco need to score because I can see Spain getting a few big chances later in this game.
True, but sadly that makes for a not very attractive game. In the second half, Morocco rarely managed to put in some offensive pressure, but kept on neutralizing Spain, so it’s no wonder there are still no goals and overtime becomes more and more probable. Which wouldn’t look any different, I predict.
No but it’s not Morocco’s job to entertain, they are fighting to stay in the competition. And these sort of games are super tense which has its own entertainment qualities I suppose.
I agree.
As the saying goes “If you want entertaiment go to the theater, this is futbol”
The German expression is “Das soll keinen Spaß machen”, “this isn’t supposed to be fun”.
Heh, I like that. There’s nothing more tense than this scenario in a World Cup.
We have others that are filthier, like “If they want shine they can shine my…”
I cannot think of an equivalent English expression, I think we expect it to be painful. After all, you wouldn’t invent a witty phrase for the pain that comes with getting a tooth extracted.
What is that damned hissing noise in the background? I thought it was my radiators at first.
