World Cup 2022 - discussion, predictions, and thoughts

We Dutch are getting numb by these disappointments now…

But the Netherlands goes home with its head held high. They never stopped fighting, and they were great.

I am alive! thanks for all your kind comments.
I just had the privilege of crying embracing with my wife and my son for an Argentina team going to play the 7 matches of the World Cup. I’ll never be able to replay this players for this, whatever happens next, never.
Thanks Diego.
Thanks Lio
THANKS EMILIANO DIBU MARTINEZ.

¡¡Partido de infarto!! ¿Eh, @Frodo ?

I actually felt dizzy for a while.

DIBU, of course, but I already have 2 cats and a dog, I don’t have physical space for another!

This team has its faults but it seems you cannot fault the character of The Scaloneta.

I hope we don’t met them for a good while now, I lose years I don’t have every time we play them.

The ref won.

Nothing anybody can say will convince me the ref didn’t receive instructions/funds to put his finger on the scales in favor of Messi.
Catching the ball during play is normally a red.
Making a ridiculous foul AND then shooting the ball into the opponents’ bench is a yellow and a red or a red and a red: at the very least 2x yellow.
The penalty in the first 90 mins was very easily given and the foul in the box on the other side 5 mins later was at least as much a penalty as the one that was actually given.

The country is now quickly abandoning any semblance of rational though, brujas are working nights, people sits exactly in the same spot for each game using exactly the same clothes, Humoristic newspaper “Barcelona” has an article “Man strikes person with his car in victory against Australia, looking for another person to strike to maintain the cabala”…

As a more or less neutral observer, today had to be one of the most exciting game days in World Cup history. Two amazing games, two monumental comebacks, several genuinely world class goals…

He seemed to talk less this game. Maybe someone slipped him a few Xanax. He was less maddening than usual.

Argentina to Van Gaal: Juan Román Riquelme sends his regards.

What? That’s not true.

This is true.

Argentina’s penalty was clear as day and the correct call. I thought that Otamendi got a toe to the ball before Gakpo and it was a clean tackle, but they never showed a replay. I do find that very odd/suspicious.

Technically they didn’t win. No one won. It was a draw 2-2. But Argentina advances.

Saw the game in a bar in El Chalten, Argentina. The intensity and emotion here is hard to believe. Disappointment verging on tragedy after Holland’s second goal. Crazy celebrations after the final penalty kick.

Wow. Just wow. RIP Grant Wahl. He was just thrown out of a stadium for wearing a rainbow shirt, and last night published a piece on Qatari worker deaths. His brother is claiming foul play.

¡Que bárbaro, che! That’s awesome.
Will you still be in Argentina if it comes down to a Falklands Islands – I mean, an Islas Malvinas – final match?
(El Chalten is the end of the road, way down in south Patagonia, not far from Tierra del Fuego. Early summer there, of course.)

Now that Brazil is out, an ARG-ENG final is the dream final here. (or alternatively ARG-MOR, you know…)

The ref is awful, I know him well from La Liga, he is Spanish. I will never understand why the Spanish Federation has been sending him to international tournaments for so long. But in the quarter-final he was awful for both sides and Messi seems particularly miffed at him, according to his statements after the game. And van Gaal and the Dutch striker were also worth of his ire. He must be under a lot of pressure, he isn’t usually like this. Don’t tell Frodo, he would worry even more if he heard me…

That is true and very relevant for bets.
