World Cup 2022 - discussion, predictions, and thoughts

Iranian keeper is going to go out with a concussion after like a 10 minute delay.

This is 100% incorrect. The Reflect Your Respect is not run by the Qatari government, it’s run by some citizen groups. That doesn’t make it not real, it’s been around for almost a decade.

“Reflect Your Respect” is a real thing, but can you tie it to that image?

Yes:

Did you even read your link!?

A poster shared on social media that requests attendees to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar to avoid dating and drinking alcohol is not an official event poster and includes false information, the country’s organizing committee has told Reuters.

Did you even read my post?! Reuters agrees with me, RYR is not operated by the Qatari government. The “false information” in your quote is the fact that RYR is telling foreigners they must do certain things, without actually having any government authority to do so.

I posted the link in response to this question:

The Reuters article has links to both a Qatari newspaper talking about RYR as well as RYR’s own twitter page, where they’ve posted the image in question multiple times.

Here’s some of the other stuff they posted [WARNING: INTENSE TRANSPHOBIA]

Oh, OK, I was arguing the wrong thing. My bad!

So, England 6 - Iran 2. I missed the second half, so didn’t see Iran’s goals. I’m left wondering if what the pundits had said before the game is right - England have multiple attacking options and are very dangerous up front, but a bit leaky in the back.

On the first Iranian goal, the English defense looked a little weak, but they didn’t have many such moments in the game. The second goal was a questionable penalty in the last minute of a 10 minutes extra time, so doesn’t really count.

What was more impressive is England’s offensive power, which stayed strong even after a couple of substitutions. What do two conceded goals matter if you score six times?

My dog was insistently scratching at the door at 80’, so I raced to take her out, but by the time I got back in, the Netherlands had scored.

Senegal has had some very good chances, it’s too bad Mané is out.

The game is a bit disappointing, I had better hopes with these two top teams. Looked like a typical draw by mutual neutralization of two strong teams until the Dutch goal (their first real shot on goal).

I believe Senegal will still finish second in group without Mane but they really could have used his skills in unlocking the Dutch defense today.

I got a cold chill of dread earlier when England went to its bench late and plucked Foden, Grealish and Rashford off it. Not many can match that kind of depth.

Senegal’s keeper didn’t look good on both goals.

Yes, I suspect that the real difference between the two teams was that the dutch goalkpeer responded well when he was needed but the one for Senegal… didn’t

Yeah, I think only France can also pull off something like that.

Yeah, though they lost, Senegal was much stronger than Ecuador yesterday, and they’ll smash Quatar.

Well any team is likely to get chances, the first one was taken rather well and the second was dubious given that England players were wrestled to the ground in the first few minutes and no action taken.

It may well be that England are unlikely to keep clean sheets and need to outscore the opposition, if so, I’ll take it. After years of tedious football and zero success I’m happy that the last two tournaments have entertained even if ultimate success has eluded us.

Musah and Weah in the US starting lineup v Wales, Reyna and Aaronson on the bench. Ream and Sargent getting starts, too.

I love seeing Ream out there, and it makes sense to have him paired with Robinson. The rest will be interesting, and it makes for a great bench.

The penalty decision against England was one of the softest decisions I’ve ever seen. I hope VAR is not going to ruin this tournament - I think the referee was gutless in awarding it.

However, big ups to the Iranian players for refusing to sing their anthem. And I understand the Iranian fans in the stadium chanted anti-government slogans and sang the name of a player who had publicly spoken out about the regime. Respect.
