World Cup 2022 - discussion, predictions, and thoughts

The only questions in the US lineup were Long vs Ream, forward, and Weah vs Aaronson vs Reyna. Musah was always going to start. I would have guessed Aaronson would start, but I haven’t seen any Weah this season to compare, just know Aaronson is doing reasonably well at Leeds and has always been good for the US.

The England result is good for the US. A win here would put them in a real nice spot going forward.

And the refs have obviously been paid off.

Wasn’t much happening until now, but that was a fine goal. 1-0 USA.

USMT is looking pretty dominant against Gareth Bale - I mean, Wales. It’s barely been past midfield. They have to start pouring in goals soon, despite the refs.

GOAL as I’m typing !!!

Nice holdup by Sargent, run by Pulisic, and very nice finish by Weah.

The refs… not great, but aren’t super terrible so far. First yellow was BS. Second was legit, but Wales should have one too.

If the US can get another one I expect McKennie to come off for Aaronson or Reyna. Dest doesn’t really have a backup and he can be must more conservative.

Nice to see the name “Weah” on the scoresheet at a world cup. His dad was one of the best players to never play in this tournament.

The ref is too card happy. Yellow for a harmless foul by Bale, if even a foul at all.

Bale clipped his heels, but I thought that was a nice tackle.

After I said Musah was an obvious starter he’s had some nervy moments. He’s 19, that’ll happen.

Wales is going to have to come out of the bunker at some point. The second half should be fun.

Pulisic goes to ground to force the yellow, good job.

That was an unnecessary and clumsy foul which lead to the penalty.

Wales has dominated the second half almost as much as the US dominated the first.

Jordan Morris as the last sub over Reyna? Hmm.

Clearest yellow card all day and no card.

What are the exact rules for overtime?

No overtime, this will end in a draw if no one scores.

ETA, unless you mean extra time? Then, it will go until the ref calls it, probably at around 11 minutes given all the injuries during extra time.

Thanks, this is what I meant. Shoot, USA blew a win here for sure.

This WC has seen significantly more added time than normal. Which I guess is good since added time has nearly always been significantly less than the actual amount of stoppages.

Welp. If it stayed 1-0 I would have been quite confident of the US going through. Wales is lucky in that they get England last when they’ll probably have less to gain. Iran now a must win game for the US.

Well the USA blew it. Poor very poor play in the second half.

This game had everything! People lying on the ground writhing in pain, terrible refereeing, low scoring, and a draw!

Blew it big time. They had dozens of chances to score and just never got the right touch.

Injury time is what we got. Extra time is what they call the extra 30 minutes added if a knock out game ends in a draw. No idea what overtime is.
