I can’t hardly contain the manija, I’m going to spend the rest of the day reading fantasy and sleeping and refraining from singing “muchachos” every 5 minutes or so.
If we lose I’m going to respect tradition and make one more post in this thread congratulating the winners, if we win I’ll become unbearable.
If I don’t survive the game sepan que los quise mucho.
Hopefully your efforts will bear fruit earlier this time.
The answer is he didn’t get a shot 4 years later. But did in 2022.
What’s the prediction.
2:1 France. The French win on two counterattacks having shoved and held the Argentines all night. Messi scores on the most dubious penalty and wins the golden ball and boot.
Macron announces that Norte Dame will be henceforth be known as Norte Didier and upon death he will be buried with Napoleon.
For me, I have relatives from both countries so either way, it is a win. Would it be great if Messi gets a world cup? would it be great if France repeats as champions something that has not happened in 60 years?
Yes

My thoughts before the cup were that Argentina lacked the talent of Brazil and France. That’s still my opinion. However, they beat Brazil for the Copa America, they can beat France today. Still think France wins… 3-1, the 3rd being very late with Argentina pushing for the equalizer.
Everyone’s calling it a close game, so my guess is it’ll be 4-0 or 5-1. Which direction I don’t know.
I have a feeling that France spoil Messi’s party. I reckon a comfortable win for France (but bear in mind that football makes fools of all predictions, that’s my way of saying that, if I’m wrong, it isn’t my fault)
My prediction: Argentina 2-1.
But I like both teams, so this will hopefully be a pleasure to watch. History will be made. Messi to become the GOAT, once and for all. Or Mbappe to stake his early claim…
Here we go!
At least two yellow card deserving fouls, one by each team, have been ignored.
Quite nervous start by France.
Holden still can’t pronounce Upamecano.
Doesn’t look good for Lloris.
ETA: looks better. Maybe a tactical break, the way Argentina has been flying around.
Lloris get the wind knocked out of him? It looked like he was having a cardiac event and now he’s up.
Other than Messi, this Argentine team just doesn’t feel particularly talented. But then outside of Mbappe, neither do the French (to take nothing away from Giroud who has been clinical throughout, and Griezmann who sends to have evolved into a completely new player).
I usually root for Argentine squads when they aren’t playing England. Batistuta was my favorite player of all time and I was fond of all the New Maradonas they didn’t quite make it (Ortega, et al). And I’ve always been Team Messi over Team Ronaldo, even though I think the latter is the more complete player. I just hate his stupid pretty face and his stupid “si!” spinny jump thing. For some reason, though, I just find myself not caring whether Messi gets a WC medal. Maybe it was his tax dodges.
(Also, Ronaldo may not have won a WC but he did win the Euros and that’s very nearly as important. The Copa America doesn’t compare.)
And I don’t really like France. They just seem to roll out of bed and perform in international tournaments. I hate that. Remember 2006 when the entire story was what a mess they were and yet they still made the final?
Maybe I just need to find a current Argentine player to root for.
The Handballers are at it again.
The French are content to let them that Handballers run themselves ragged.
I agree. But I’d say more people in the world have Messi higher.
Argentina definitely getting the better of the first 20 minutes. That header by Giroud was probably France’s first decent chance.
Soft penalty call.
