For all fans of the great man, Ron Atkinson, here is an indispensable guide to emulating his inimitable style:

Dunno what’s up with your link. Fantastic page though.
So I had Richard and Judy on in the background and they interviewed a Feng Shui expert. The thing to do before the match is this:
1 – Clear the middle of the room
2 – Put the teevee in the North West corner
3 – Put an elephant on the teevee (not a real one)
4 – Remove all blue from the room (water kills fire)
5 – Surround yourself in red (fire)
I do actually have an elephant gift thing from India somewhere.
I also had a walking-past-the-bookies instinctive bet on England to win 3 – 1 with Owen scoring the first goal at 90/1. What the hell…
Twenty five and a half hours to go. Anyone nervous ?
Our telly is already in the North-west corner. I usually wear a red top to watch England. I might even have a picture of Ganesh (Hindu elephant-headed god of good luck) somewhere.
So, ha-ha! when it comes to irrational symbolic superstition based juju, I am all set and ready to go.
The only thing I have to do is wake up for the match, and not fall asleep at half time. Hmmmmn.
Mr Calling, I am nervous, and as you know I’m about as English as Colin Henry.
Go England - send those spoiled diving brats home.
I set up a sweepstake for some of my pupils (chocolate prizes). One lad got Ronaldinho to score the first goal. He asked who Ronaldinho was, so I gave the ignorant pupil my death stare. He should be recovered by the time the game starts…
I’m not really nervous, because Sven got us thru the Group of Death and has obviously engendered a sensible team spirit.
And it’s all out of my control.
P.S. Our School has announced that lessons will start tomorrow (errr today) ‘5 minutes after there’s a result’.
The Japanese World Cup organisers have apparently voted the Irish fans the best in the tournament. Not that that should come as any surprise.
I notice that today’s football365 lookie-likie is Ronaldinho and Jar Jar Binks.

London_Calling re. 1970’s Brazil - England match (as if anyone cares right now), I’ll concede that “rubbish” was an exaggeration. I have a video compilation of the best bits from the 1970 World Cup which gives you the impression that it was a carnival of non-stop footballing magic, so perhaps I shouldn’t have been surprised that an unedited match didn’t live up to my expectations. Nevertheless, I still don’t see why it’s regarded as a classic. Sure it was one great team versus another very good team, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the game itself was any good. An article in the Times today pretty much sums up my feelings.
