World of Warcraft General Discussion

Thanks, on the way!

Q

And Jesus! How in the WORLD did y’all get this second thread up to 5 pages already after the other one was closed???

Also, I got to thinkin’… remember that compilation and indexing of all the questions in these two threads I suggested we ought to do? Twice?

Well, we can’t really do that can we, because doesn’t everything posted here belong to the Dope? Or can we?
And what if we donated the proceeds to something like… oh, I don’t know… The Alzheimer’s Association?

If anyone feels froggy and wants to do it, I’d like to help.

Just because we here (excepting yours truly) function on a higher level of WoW than those on the forums and the books I bought with all the misspellings…

I’d be ecstatic to help with editing something like that!

Q

Because those quests are a part of the class and in some cases may be very fun to do(eg the druid swift flight form quest) so they leave them in place in case someone wants to do them.

No, that doesn’t work, standard emotes are visible to both factions but custom ones are not. If you use /e the opposing faction will only see “[your name] is making some strange gestures.”. What this tauren is using is /sexy.

Aww… so they did fix it. Well, it use to work way back when I used it to get some help from some hordies for my Benediction questline. I haven’t tried to communicate with hordies since then, so… oh well.

This. For example, there is one quest that is a favirite of mine, a warlock quest.

You go talk to a little guy named Niby The Almighty, to start it off. Then you kill things and collect stuff and kill more things. At the end, you have to face the evil the fearsome, the terrifying El Pollo Grande - the Black Chicken Of Death.

Priceless

Well…in the case of the paladin quest, there’s actually still a reason to do it (if you’re Horde, anyway): it’s the only way to get the Blood Knight tabard, which is (IMO, anyway) one of the coolest and sexiest tabards in the game. If you go the easy way and just get the horse from the trainer, you won’t get the chance to get this tabard.

My BE paladin will be hitting 60 very shortly, and I plan to have him go through the quest (if he ever gets the money to do it, and that’s a big if since he’s an alt and got powerleveled, so his funds and gear are laughable).

I’ve been running instances this past weekend with pugs, and running SM with a bunch of obvious 80 rerolls got me hitting the blogs and websites again to see how to improve my BM hunter’s performance. As a new player, it’s rather intimidating to listen to the others in group chattering about class and damage mechanics, but it’s also rather educational, I’ll say that.

I do have a question: My hunter’s pretty much pure BM with only a couple points in MM (33/2/0), but the players were asking me if I had Aimed Shot. While I can see the obvious value of that talent, given that I’m a 44, should I have been spending points to get that before I spent points to go deeper in the BM tree?

I’m also interested in rerolling a holy pally to help out my guild since we’ll be moving on to raids at the higher levels in a short while given how the various players are progressing. So I’ll probably be back to this thread with more questions as I try that class/spec out.

Suggestion: Level as Retribution, especially if you’re doing it solo, then respec into Holy once you’re able to join in the raiding. If you’re leveling with a group and you’ll be the healer, then go Holy, sure.

I had this same problem levelling my hunter - plenty of folks willing to give lvl-80 spec advice but not a lot for along the way (other than the generic “level as BM” advice). I had a strange hybrid spec (primarily BM) until I hit 62ish and then respecced as Survival (all the way to 51 to get Explosive Shot). For levelling BM I think I’d rather have Go For the Throat (pet focus regen) before Aimed Shot - although maybe Bestial Discipline makes that irrelevant. Looking over the talent tree again if I were you I’d just keep building down the BM tree till you get towards the bottom. The added benefits of the top-tier talents generally outweigh anything at the top of the other trees.

I just thought of a functionality for my WoW Wishlist…I want to be able to mail guild invites to my alts. I have a lvl 77 DK on one server. I have tried over the weekend to put together a new guild just so I can have a guild vault (I’m reminded of a Penny Arcade WoW cartoon which said, “I would wear a chicken’s ass on my head if it gave me another bag slot”). But people are idiots and assholes and wouldn’t even sign the charter for a gold (in the starting areas!), so that didn’t work. I do have a toon on another server who IS the sole member of her own guild, who I could plausibly transfer to my DK’s server. But I can’t invite an alt at the moment because I can’t mail her an invite.

Want mail guild invites…want…

OK, how about a dope self help agreement … i have a character on medivh alliance side id like to guild to get a bank, and have 2 accounts. Ill make 2 account-babys on your server and give you 2 sigs, and anybody else who wants sigs in turn, if you all make a baby character on my server to sign my guild thingy … and im willing to make the baby guildbots either alliance or horde as i really have no desire to play them once we all have our guilds=)

Thanks for the advice – I was feeling rather uncomfortably like I was behind the curve, but also unsure how to reconcile the various comments with the blog/website information. You’re correct that much of it is geared to 80s which is slowing me down some as far as learning the class mechanics and strategies go.

One of my abiding worries, like someone else said, is that I’ll be seen as being unable to play my class. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hmm, I’ll see what the rest of my guild has to say about that; we have a small number of actives on at any given time so leveling as holy will definitely be harder, then.

That’s in Felwood, right? I came across a gnome standing next to the Black Chicken of Death’s corpse, and I wondered, “WTF?”

Oooo! Do Alliance pallys get a tabard?

Unfortunately not. :frowning:

On the other hand, you can get a tabard for finishing the final quest chain on Bloodmyst Isle. I don’t know if it’s Draenei-only, but it’s only a level 20 quest. It’s a nice tabard, too.

Hi some advice about where to quest please. I level grouped with another pally, he is prot and I am ret and we are currently level 34. As I have mentioned before I am currently in STV and frankly a tad underwhelmed with the quests, bored actually. So thinking of moving on and we have come up with this plan:

Gnomeregan. Is it worth it for pallys at our level?
Go to Kalimdor and do Razorfen Kraul.
Quest in Desolace to get to Level 40
As soon as we think we are a high enough level do Razorfen Downs (we have a quest from the Archbishop to kill someone here)
Return to Eastern Kingdoms to do Scarlett Monastery
Get kitted out in Plate before tackling Uldaman

Good plan or not? Am I missing something obvious to do? Better areas to quest maybe?

One problem with this I the distance to a Paladin Trainer, can we use the Draenei trainer on Exodas?

Thanks.

It is, unfortunately, Draenei only. Other races don’t even see the exclamation point over the giver’s head.

AT LAST! My mage hit level 80! Now I need to decide whether to enjoy some end-game with him, or get to work on my priest.

There’s a little icon on the edge of your minimap called “tracking type.” That’s where you can set things like “track herbs.” A few patches back, they added a ton of stuff to the pulldown menu. You can now select “track repair” and the closest NPC that can fix your armor will show up as a yellow dot on your minimap.

Very handy.

Here’s a related question/problem that popped up for me last night. I use to get a small icon on the mini-map when I queued for a battleground (let you leave the queue and see how long you’ve been waiting). Last night I queued for the first time in a long time and the icon didn’t appear. Is there an Interface setting that will bring it back? Or is it possible that an add-on is removing it (I have a number installed)?

Grats on 80 BTW, only at 75 on my hunter…

First check and make sure the icon isn’t covered by another icon on your minimap. Sounds likely that it may be an addon if that’s not the case. Move your whole addons folder to the desktop(or wherever), or disable all of them, and start the game and see if it comes back up. If it does than you can root out which one it is by process of elimination. Some unit frames addons will move that icon to the character portrait or minimap addons will hide it.
