World of Warcraft General Discussion

No, it is impossible* to attack a friendly target(or heal/buff a hostile target), the worst thing that is going to happen is that you don’t do anyting at all.
*Under normal circumstances. In some encounters it is possible to kill your comrades. Usually when they get Mind Controlled, but then they’re technically a hostile target.

On preview: Bah, stop typing so fast!

Personally, I have these bars turned on all the time. They make targeting a billion times easier.

V - toggles health bars over hostiles (players and mobs)
Shift + V - toggles health bars over friendly players (can’t remember if it does friendly NPCs, too)

Note that these two are mutually exclusive–if you accidentally hit Shift+V, it will remove your enemy health bars, and hitting V again will hide the friendly ones and bring the enemy ones back up.

<nostalgia> With the probably-one-time-only exception of the zombie invasion /BRAINS! </nostalgia>

But seriously, jayjay is correct. You can’t attack your party members, though you may occasionally wish you could.

Oh, you don’t. But this was week1 or week2 of Ulduar being out, and we were still learning the fight. The healer was having a hard time keeping up the lock tank, so we tried building a tank spec for it. Switching healers helped more than the spec change :D. I just haven’t bothered to do anything else with it.

Some of that looks like a 3.0 spec, but why on earth Imp HS over Fel Synergy? That’s actually worse than the Molten Skin (which should be in Suppression given what you said about his hit). That point in Fel Dom isn’t helping him much either, though I guess he needs it since he isn’t healing his pet with Fel Synergy…

Thaddius still pissed me off. We’re a progression guild. We’re working on keeper hard modes. We only got Shocking and Immortal once. I wasn’t there. Then again, we did Hodir hard, and promptly wiped on Thorim trash.

Yes, but SFG’s character is alliance on that server. (iirc, sorry for jumping in!)

One cannot mail stuff between Horde and Alliance.

She cannot mail you money.
Mogle is correct! Apparently humans look orcish to me (especially the guys) as I’ve (idiotically) tried healing them once or twice - they probably thought I was a vindictive Horde watching them die when in reality I was ‘Wt? Why is my flash of light not hitting this exceptionally ugly orc?’ instead…

It’s always bothered me that the game mechanics will not allow you, under any circumstances, ever, to do anything beneficial to a player of the opposite faction. You can’t heal them, you can’t bandage them, you can’t buff them. Who’s Blizzard to say what my character wouldn’t do?

ETA: Thanks for catching twilly’s post–I missed it somehow. Yup, I can’t send gold cross-faction.

I have on multiple occasions had Allies help me out (as horde), but it was by beating the carp out of whatever I was fighting. (Typo left in cause it amuses me).

A friend and I were talking about this over the weekend. The wall Blizzard enforces between Horde and Alliance is really kind of stupid, especially given that canon at the time WoW started had both sides more or less neutral to each other, if not friendly. Especially when you get into Outland, you’d think they’d have stuff for the Horde and Alliance teaming up, even if only for specific instances. There could be a long quest chain at 70 or 80 that gifts you with the ability to speak Orcish or Tauren or something. There’s tons of stuff in lore about the two sides working together (Thrall and Jaina, anyone?), but there is absolutely no way to do it in game.

City of Heroes does this. Not perfectly, but they do allow heroes and villains to team in certain areas where their differences are put aside in the face of a greater threat or they’re otherwise forced to be non-hostile to each other. It works out pretty well, and there’s more justification for it in WoW, as lore is that neither the Alliance nor the Horde are truly evil, whereas in CoX it’s very much a good/evil divide.

I’ve done this on my draenei. One quest in Hellfire Peninsula spawns an elite creature, and after the troll had tagged it I joined him in beating on it.

True, I personally would enjoy being able to do more for the other faction, on rare occasions. (I’d also like the ability to switch the server to all-faction-pvp at will. And a pony. Try to steal MY mine node while I’m clearing the mob will ya?)

liar

True - and even if it was an insanely long process of grinding and questing to be able to learn the other factions language - people would happily do it.

Hordies have also helped me when I’ve been playing an Alliance toon. On one memorable occasion, my SO and I were running around Hillsbrad for some reason and came upon some mobs too tough for us. An undead death knight happened by and saved our butts. We /thanked him, he bowed, and we continued.

We ran into him again later that evening–slaughtering NPCs in an Alliance town.

1.) My friends and I have also lamented that there’s no way to switch factions. We were hoping they might do it with DKs–you’d roll a DK of whatever race you liked, but then would choose which faction to align it with after you broke away.

2.) Forget opposite faction languages–how about the languages of other races in your own faction? I think you should learn a faction’s language once you hit Exalted with it.

twilly, assuming that was aimed at me…

I suggest that you consider the end of the /beg emote.

First of all, you’re probably going to get dinged by a mod for that. You can’t call someone a liar outside the Pit.

Second of all, no, he’s not a liar. You can’t send mail of any kind cross-faction (i.e., Horde can’t send to Alliance and vice-versa). That’s never been allowed.

Third, even if you DID have a toon on the same faction as him, I certainly wouldn’t send you money NOW, if I were him.

Fourth, it’s virtual money. It doesn’t really exist. Go out and kill things for it like all the rest of us have to.

Slight hijack from this: There’s an INSANELY long quest-line that deals with going into both Stormwind and Undercity (far into both) as well as many other dangerous areas that rewards you, at the end, amongst other things, with an extra language: Draconic. Seemed useless until the Veteran of the Wraithgate achievement fall-out with Alexstraza trying to be so secretive about things…

Hell, they don’t even allow Horde and Alliance DKs to intermingle in the freaking starting area. They’ve got one for each faction.

My hope for an expansion is a neutral race, like the Pandaren. They’d be of neither faction, and could group with either and use all capital city amenities as long as their rep is Friendly or better. I know it’ll never happen, but it would be nice.

This would be cool, but I’d prefer it be Goblins rather than Pandaren. I know there’s some pretty silly stuff in WoW, but player-character humanoid panda martial-arts masters with a penchant for getting drunk…er…no, thanks.

When we raid, we ALL use DBM, and I make sure the enemy castbar is turned on.
