World of Warcraft General Discussion

Oh, this is interesting! I’m showing my ignorance but I hadn’t know you’d learned a language with that. (But then I just got my first character to 80…) Good to know.

There is a round about way, by using the neutral auction house. It takes a second person to help, but it can be done.

Using an example:
I want to send money from my rich Alliance toon to my poor Horde toon (poverty really isn’t my problem lol).

My poor horde toon puts up a vendor trash item for a large buyout. My “assistant” on the Alliance side buys it, with the gold my rich Alliance guy supplied. Money gets transferred.

It isn’t mail, but it is a workaround.

I would definitely roll a goblin. They could set up a new starting area (an island offshore from one of the goblin towns, perhaps), enhance the lore a bit, and build off of the existing reps. Perhaps at level 20 they could go through a quest line that allows them to become friendly with either Horde or Alliance but not both (like Scryer/Aldor).

The only “problem” is that it would break the trade barrier between Horde and Alliance. I could set up a Horde-friendly goblin (let’s call him Hoblin) and an Alliance-friendly goblin (we’ll call him Ablin). My Alliance toon gives it to Ablin, Ablin gives it to Hoblin, and Hoblin gives it to my Horde toon.

There would be other complexities, but I think they’d be fun to work out. Bliz could even add other races to the goblin faction.

My son and I also discussed creating a third faction that consisted of Murlocs and Naga and putting their starting area underwater in the great sea.

Works well (and you can do it with a 2nd account of your own if you have one), but the neutral AH takes a much bigger cut than the faction AH’s do.

Another way to approach it where you don’t lose as much is to get a very expensive item and list it on the neutral AH really cheap. Make sure your assistant is standing there waiting for the listing to show up!!!. The assistant buys it and gives it to your other toon, who sells it on the faction AH for a bunch of money.

The danger with that approach is that if someone coincidentally notices your item and buys it before your assistant does, you’re hosed.

Wait… what? Got a link for this?

You are correct! I’ve heard of this technique, but never personally put it into practice.

(To be completely frank, this technique hadn’t occurred to me here as I rather had the impression that Shot From Guns was expected to magically transfer money over right at this very moment regardless of her server/faction/current money status/desire.)

If ArrMatey! is talking about this quest, and I believe he is, then it does not allow you to learn Draconic. It’s part of the stupidly hard and long quest chain to get the Scepter of the Shifting Sands in order to open the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj, which has already been accomplished on all servers (even new ones start with the gates open now). There’s no benefit to completing the quest these days, if it’s even possible.

I was close to 63 so I grabbed my Fel Iron Greatsword out of the bank. As soon as I hit 63 (from killing Marsh Dredgers and Lurkers) I equipped it. So far it’s pretty nice.

Amuses me too, Tom! I was wondering if you got any health-re-generating value from the carp?

Also, yeah, you cannot send money outside your realm, and sometimes you can’t send it to a faction inside it, either! I tried to send some to my Elf Warrior Hannes in Alextrasza, but I got a message telling me he was an “unfriendly target”.

About this “money” thing, y’all?

Sorry, but I always feel a bit uncomfortable with that. I don’t mind giving it. I mind being asked , but even when I’m asked, I still give it.

Case in point: Saw a level 15 standing in front of a mailbox as I was checking my mail, and I was asked for one silver, so I sent it to her.

Not even a “thank you” whisper.

Live in WoW isn’t really that different from RL, is it, Kids? :shrugs:

Q

Guild Chats: When they appear in GREEN, is that MY guild? If so, how come they don’t talk to me???

Q

Yes, the guild chat is green. Depending on your guild, they may not even notice you’re online - I don’t think it alerts you someone’s online unless they’re actually on your friends list. It’s possible they just don’t know you’re online. And if you’re talking, make sure YOUR text is green, too. (Type /g when you start talking), otherwise you’ll just be talking in your vicinity.

As for the money thing, I personally just ignore beggars. Don’t feel obligated to give people money by any means.

When a guild mate logs on, you’ll hear a sound like somebody hitting a big drum, and “[Player Name Here] has logged in” will appear in yellow text in the chat box.

Really? I’ve never noticed that. Maybe I’ve disabled the option, then…

Yeah, I don’t think it’s enabled by default. Also, it sounds more like a “clink” when I hear people log in, rather like the sound when you get a tell.

Haven’t noticed the bass drum sound, but have replied in green, for sure! Sounded like they were all in the beginning stages of the Elwynn Forest, because they were giving each other “laptop” instrucrtions and were laughing at each other a lot as they were corrrecting their mistakes!

Sounds like they might have needed some “Quasi-Help”!

My guild (as it appears under Wolkie’s name) is called “Legends of Azeroth”. Would that be a “default” guild - because I do not remember joining it.

Matter of fact, I took myself out of ALL guilds when I reco-bo-nized my problem wiff tankin’!

“Ah mahnd is a turble thang! And we must STOP it! ‘Fo’ it KILLS somebody!”

God, that Stand-Up Comic STILL cracks me up. (Bob-Somebody, right? Can’t remember his last name!)

After all these years!

Q

There’s no default guild. Invites to join a guild look a lot the same as a group invite, so you might have accepted without really noticing. Feel free to leave if you don’t deal with them much.

I like “The Legends Of Azeroth” name, though.

That’s a cool name, so maybe I should “call them up” and introduce myself, and stuff?

I would for sure like them to know not to use me as a “TANK”, that’s fer sure!

:D:D:D:D:D

As an “aside”…

Somtimes a Female Voice comes on and says “Let’s Have Some Fun!”. and then completely OBLITERATES everything around me, which causes me to write:
**
MOMMY-FRIGGER**

But she never answers.

She just goes on killing my foes for me with her balls

Can someone explain to me what the ‘Focus’ macro command actually means? I keep reading that it is a way of targeting two mobs at once but I haven’t read an explanation I understand yet!

Hi Quasi - that would be a warlock’s minion (like a hunter’s pet) called the Succubus who is a saucy little minx for sure. She can’t communicate with you unfortunately.
