World of Warcraft General Discussion

As someone else that is also leveling a baby druid if you think a fight could involve multiples you can also put up a Regrowth HoT before the pull (I think the HoT lasts for 20 secs or so which will give you a little cushion and maybe avoid having to shift into caster for the bigger heals).

Also, I’ve found that cat form is much faster for questing than bear, and haven’t used bear much at all since I got cat (but then again I’m much more comfortable as strict DPS and have always played pretty squishy toons so I don’t do the “run into a pack and wail away” method).

I found the druid pretty brutal until 20 for the same reason - bear form just takes so damn long to kill things and caster form is too squishy. Once you get cat form it goes much faster (and the speed boost is a god-send). Of course part of that is that I’ve never really enjoyed rage-based classes (why should I have to wait for something to hit me before I get to use my abilities?) but am enjoying the energy-based/combo-point cat attacks a ton (way more than I did on my baby rogue for some reason).

I’ve usually hear that druids get better once you hit 20 these days, but in the Bad Old Days, cat form was only good for prowling. If you wanted something dead you had to bear up, so levels 20-60 wasn’t much different from 10-20.And we had to walk 10 km, uphill, barefoot through the snow every day.

Now, you can rip just about anything to shreds in cat form, especially once you get Mangle.

Aye. I leveled my current main druid to 60 well before TBC, and wound up spending a lot more time in bear form than in cat form. This was before there was anything resembling decent feral druid itemization, of course. Although, it did also help me take on mobs that were 4 levels higher than I was, so I was able to quest in “orange” zones, which helped speed things along a bit.

I did most of his leveling as a hybrid feral/resto spec, largely to get Nature’s Swiftness as an “Oh Crap” button, because of the aforementioned cast time for Healing Touch.

Nowadays, yeah, cat is probably much superior to bear for leveling (though bear is still useful if things get a bit out of hand).

Darwin’s Finch, true, druids were very good at not dying back then, so there weren’t all that many things we couldn’t actually kill, it just took a very long time to do it

Ah, yes, thank you (:dubious:) for reminding me, 3.5 cast time on Healing Touch with no talents to reduce it. shudder

This is the fundamental A-Number-One law for happy grouping.

Quasi-Questions (sorry!)

  1. I guess there’s a limited number of items a vendor will buy back? In other words, it wouldn’t do me any good to go another vendor, because all my slots would still be full?

  2. Small barnacled clam: I got one of these, and am not sure what it’s for. It’s instructions just state “Open the Clam!”

  3. Those items I cannot sell at auction: better off just selling them to a vendor - right- because the “house” will always take its cut?

  4. I think I remember y’all telling me that as a warrior in Alextrasza, I’m not really “role-playing”. Is that an easier way to play?

  5. Gold-Sellers: Those bastards have taken to placing an ad right below my mini-map! Anyone else seeing this?

Thanks, doing some grinding in Red Ridge. I cannot hook my surround sound up because the computer’s hooked up in my wife’s bedroom and she’s making me use headphones! :frowning:

Is that grounds for divorce?

Thanks, Kids!

Quasi

Nope, the vendors will just keep buying and buying. What will fill up, though, are the buyback slots. They’re there in case you accidentally vendored something you didn’t mean to. You can buy it back from the vendor for the same amount of gold you were given. Think of it like an automatic undo that can fix your last ten mistakes.

Right-click it and open the clam! You’ll find some clam meat inside, which is an ingredient in some cooking recipes. If you’re lucky you’ll also find a pearl, which jewelcrafters and (rarely) tailors use.

Are you talking about items that you put up for sale but nobody bought? If so, you’re definitely right to look at the listing cost for putting it back up for sale. If that’s a significant portion of what a vendor would give you for the item, then yes, the safest option is to sell it that way. You can easily lose money posting the same item up for auction again and again if nobody is interested. I find this is often the case with random green items that creatures drop - often they have a high listing price and I won’t try to auction them more than once.

That doesn’t mean, though, that it’s never a good idea to relist an item. If it doesn’t cost much gold compared to what you should be able to sell it for, then absolutely repost it. You might not have found a buyer the first time around just because it was a slow day, or perhaps you had a lot of competitors that day.

There are special realms that are designated RP realms. Players on those realms are expected to abide by certain rules, mostly involving character names and the things you say out loud for other players to hear. By and large people who want to roleplay create characters on these realms, mostly to make it easier to find other RPers to interact with.

In all other aspects RP realms are the same - same quests, same enemies, same rules. It’s not that being on a roleplay realm is an easier way to play. It’s that it’s easier for you to find other roleplayers on an RP realm.

No, never seen anything like that Quasi. Did you recently install any addons?

Very yes. Head for Ratchet - the gobins will set you up with some fine legal counsel

I’m not sure what you mean here. You should be able to sell everything that’s saleable with no restrictions. If you’re getting a notice that “The vendor does not want that item”, it has to do with the type of item, not how much other stuff you’ve sold to him. Some things you can’t sell, period.

Right-click on it. You’ll get some clam meat and possibly a pearl, which you can auction off, sell to a vendor, or use in tradeskill stuff.

Yes. If the item hasn’t sold after the second try, just vendor it. It’s better than losing the deposit money again.

Again, I’m not entirely sure what you mean. Roleplaying is just acting as if you were your character in-game, talking in the game as your character instead of real-world stuff. You can develop a whole storyline for Wolkie if you want, but it’s not mandatory or anything.

Heh. I’m not sure what you mean here, either. What kind of “ad” do you have below your minimap?

Kingspades and jayjay!

**Thanks. Y’all wouldn’t believe this big grin on my face at what **KS said about the divorce!

As I write, she’s asleep on the bed behind me, and even though she makes me use the 'phones, she puts up with a lot just with all the incessant clicking, Og love her!

Okay, about the vendors: I try to sell them some spider spittle, but all my buy-back slots are full and if I try to place the spittle on top of another item, the game will just return that item to my bag!

The vendor doesn’t RFUSE it. it just won’t go into the slots.

The “ad” I mention is all in red and it obscures my field of play. I have reported it to Bliz…

The clam: Just KEEP right-clicking? It seems to go down in numerical value when I do. Am I getting any nutrition from that?

The Role-Play: Well, y’all know that Wolkie has the luke-warms for Heather, at the Sentinel Hill Inn, right? Well, she never responds, because she’s a NPC. Would that be differerent in an RP Realm?

I think I’m beginning to sound like a “perv” aren’t I???

Thanks to both of you for answering!!!

BTW: A previous question… Am I getting a lot of “rewards” because of the Midsummer Fest? (Such as increased numbers in unarmed combat?)

Thanks

Q

To sell to a vendor, just right-click on the item you want to sell while the vendor window is open. You don’t have to drag the item over to the vendor window.

Did you download Auctioneer? That sounds like Auctioneer’s control panel.

You must have more than one…the number in the lower right-hand corner is the number of clams you have. As you open each one, the number will go down because you threw the shell away after you took the meat out. You aren’t eating the clam meat by right-clicking the clam…you would need to cook the clam meat (there is a cooking recipe called Boiled Clams) and then right-click the cooked clams to eat them.

No, unfortunately. Heather will act the same on any kind of realm.

I think a couple of people answered that. You must have missed it. Basically, what we think is happening is that while you were clearing out Moonbrook, the Defias Looters were Disarming you, which means that for a couple of seconds, you’re fighting with your fists instead of a weapon. Like other weapon skills, Unarmed will go up as you use it. So that couple of seconds times whatever gives you a rise in your Unarmed skill. The Midsummer Festival has nothing to do with that.

jay, I don’t have “auctioneer” downloaded on Curse Client. One thing I didn’t mention is that the same message about buying gold appears in the chat box in red too.

So do you remember when I accidentally bought some gold early on and stupidly didn’t know it was illegal and even reported my stupidity to the GM’s? Could THAT be why I’m seeing these messages?

I DO see a lot pf PST’s in purple asking me to buy…

Man! I wish I’d never done that, and I would advise ANYONE not to. because it does absolutely NO GOOD!

My “unarmed skills” numbers were going up as Wolkie was running down the road TOWARD Moonbrook. He also got hit with some fire-stuff, which (I think) is supposed to increase his strength?

Thanks, jay and I’m sorry, everyone, that I missed the replies! I’ll go back and read!

Q

Okay, now the pieces are coming together. I think what happened is that you were just standing near a gold seller’s character while he yelled. If you type /y before a line of text, your character will shout it. That makes the text turn red and the “voice” carry farther. I’m betting the reason you saw it below your map is that the character was standing there from your perspective, and you saw the speech balloon.

Yeah, that’s the standard way gold sellers advertise. In fact I don’t remember seeing one yell before; that’s rather bold. Anyway, best thing you can do whenever you see one of those messages, yelled or whispered, is to right-click the name in your chat box and select “Report Spam.”

That’s right, Quasi. We’re in the middle of the Midsummer Fire Festival holiday. Every zone has bonfires near the towns, Alliance and Horde. Standing near the bonfire is a questgiver who has a quest named “Honor the Flame.” If you talk to that person and complete the quest, you’ll get some experience and some Burning Blossoms in your pack. If you then stand near the bonfire and right-click the Blossom, it will reignite the fire and give all the Alliance characters in the zone a buff. That’s what’s happening when you see the little fireball above your head and you jump in the air and cheer.

Now you’ll notice I said “reignite” above. That’s because the other half of the festival involves finding all the Horde’s fires and putting them out. When you do that, you’ll get some experience and all the Horde players in the zone lose their buff. Be careful when you do this, though. Extinguishing the Horde fire “flags” you for player-vs-player combat. That means that Horde players will be able to fight and kill you for a period of time.

At your level, I’d stick to honoring the Alliance’s bonfires. It’s great free experience; last year I got two levels on my mage just from doing the fires alone! You’d be surprised how far you can get just running along the roads, too, even into higher level zones like Duskwood and Stranglethorn Vale. You might die a time or two, but the bonfire experience paired with the exploration experience is worth it.

The bonfire at Sentinel Hill is right across from the flightmaster near the sawmill. Look for the big red tent. While you’re there, make sure to dance around the maypole! There’s an object called Ribbon Pole on the far side of the tent. If you hover your cursor over it, it turns into a gear. Right-click on the pole and your character will start twirling. Now, take a look up next to your map. An icon with a flame will appear - that’s a buff that gives you 10% extra experience for every creature you kill! If you dance for about a minute, you’ll get the full hour-long duration for the buff. Then when it runs out, go back and do it again!

Kingspades, thanks for that very detailed post!

I recharged Wolkie at the bonfire, did the whirling dervish around that May-Pole thing (had to move away from it to stop, though, is that right - after a 60 minute “fill-up”?).

Re: The vendors. Right-clicking on an item doesn’t automatically send it to a slot. Do I need to “enable” it somewhere, jay?

And I got your PM, Kingspades, thanks, that’s very nice of you!

Also, I went to my RP realm, and played as one of my alts, Esilem, but couldn’t freally tell a lot of difference in it and what I do in Alextrazca. Am I missing something?

Thanks and “For the Alliance!”

Quasi

I’m sorry, Quasi…I’m a little confused exactly what you’re asking now. Are you trying to sell to a vendor? Then you need to right-click on the vendor so that the vendor window opens up. Then you can right-click on the items you want to sell and they should automatically disappear and you’ll have the money. Are you talking about the buyback slots? Dont’ worry about those unless you sell something you didn’t want to, then you can go into that tab and buy it back for what you sold it for, at least until you log out. Logging out clears your buyback tab.

Even if the buyback slots are filled up, you’re still selling to the vendor…the buyback option is limited to a certain number of previous transactions, but that doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to sell. There’s no connection between selling and the buyback tab except that you can buy back things you just sold.

Well, RP really is entirely up to the players. The way the NPCs react to you doesn’t change from realm to realm. It really sounds kind of like you RP normally, even on Alexstrasza, which is considered a “normal” or PVE (player vs. environment, as against pvp, player vs. player) realm. So your own actions probably won’t be much different on an RP realm. The main difference is probably going to be that you’ll find other people role-playing on an RP realm more easily. Though that really does depend on the server, too.

jay, the vendor problem has resolved itself. I don’t know what I was doing wrong, or maybe I wasn’t paying attentiom when the items were moving from bag to slot, but anyway, thank you, it’s working now.

Point taken on the RP thing.

I think I really need to play my alts more, but I’d like to get Wolkie to 30 first, if I can.

The vendor problem is fixed, jay, thanks. Don’t know why it wasn’t working before, but it’s working now.

As far as the RP goes, point taken.

I think I really need to play my alts more, but I’d like to get Wolkie up to 30 first.

Besides, there’s so much about being a human warrior I still don’t know…

Thanks again!

Quasi

The roleplay you find depends heavily on the realm you choose. Some RP realms, such as Farstriders, may as well be normal realms for the amount of roleplay you’ll see there. I’m on Sisters of Elune, and it’s got a fairly active community. Wyrmrest Accord is the newest RP realm and a lot of “the grass is always greener” roleplayers set out over there in search of a better experience. I’ve also heard of roleplay being fairly good on Moon Guard.

There are also certain places you’re more likely to find open roleplay. Stormwind is a good bet on Sisters’s Alliance side, while I’ve heard Silvermoon City is the place to be Horde side. Dalaran is also a good bet no matter which faction.

Although I don’t participate in the RP community in WoW, I can say that in general, roleplayers are a very accepting lot. There are a few bad apples here and there, but I’m reasonably confident that if you play on an RP server you’ll find people that are more patient and won’t tell you to shove off like the previous jerks have. I can’t guarantee that, but it’s something to keep in mind.

When am I gonna learn not to post in the WoW forums???:smack:

The above title is the reply I got to an unrelated question.

I wrote back, “Can you help me make it better, instead of just criticizing? I would appreciate that!”

Jesus effin’ Christ!

The best advice I can give for that is: Stay away from the official forums. They’re full of assholes and jerks. If you want somewhere else to discuss WoW besides here, try the World of Warcraft community on LiveJournal. They’re pretty nice, about on par to those of us in this thread.
