World of Warcraft General Discussion

Grats on the Ambassador, jayjay!

You may reach the same impasse my human 80 pally has. I went around SMV with my “Low-Level Quest” finder on and did everything I could find. The quests handed out at Wildhammer Stronghold lead to a quest, “Battle of the Crimson Watch”, which requires you to take on three waves of mobs. You start out in the middle of a ring, and the mobs materialize in a circle around you. I failed the quest repeatedly before finally abandoning it. The mobs, despite being labeled as lvl 70-71 elites, go down surprisingly easily, but because they’re 10 levels below me they don’t aggro when they materialize. You have to attack them first, but once you do they all attack at once. I could survive the first two waves, but I needed to at least drink to replenish my mana after the second wave, and that’s where I had the problem: If you don’t engage within a certain amount of time, the mobs despawn and the quest fails. I’m not sure there are even any followup quests in SMV, because once you complete the quest you’re supposed to report to A’dal in Shatt. In any case, no more quests appear at Wildhammer.

The quests given at the Altar of Sha’Tar lead up to a quest where you have to recover a particular object … from a guy who is imprisoned in The Arcatraz. And you can’t get into Arcatraz without first obtaining a key from somebody in Tempest Keep, which requires a raid group to even enter.

Finally, there is a quest that sends you to talk to a guy in Terokkar about making you a weapon. He sends you to gather materials: A Demon Warding Totem (purchased from a vendor in Shattrath’s Lower City), 4 Heavy Knothide Leather (I was able to get these at the AH) and … an Adamantite Frame, which needs to be made by an Engineer. I have not been able to find one on the AH, and I’ve tried a couple times to find an Engineer to make me one by standing in SW begging in General and Trade (including announcing that, as a Miner I have all the Adamantite they’ll need), with no luck. What really sucks about this one is that the resulting weapon is going to be useless to me.

So until I manage to complete those quests, no more new quests are showing up in SMV, and I’m stuck at 70/90.

Too late to edit:

On the up side, I just need to uncover a small handful of areas in Storm Peaks, and I’ll have “World Explorer:slight_smile:

Just wanted to point out that while Tempest Keep is often used to refer to the raid instance, it is actually the name of that set of instances (The Eye, which is the raid instance, Arcatraz, Botanica, and Mechanar). You don’t need to do the raid instance to get the Arc key, but I do believe you will have to run both Mech and Bot along the way for it. It’s been a few years since I did that quest line, so I don’t remember more specifics on it.

You need to get help on that one. There’s just no way to solo it when you’re at that level. Get a buddy to come in and help you clear the 29s from around him, and you can take down the big guy (Stalvan, right?) by yourself if your friend can keep the aggro off of you.

I’ve had that happen. I ended up having to back into a tree and shut down Warcraft to make it stop.

I have a mouse on one of my computers that does that. I let go of it, and the cursor slowly drifts off across the screen. Not all the time, but once or twice a day.

That’s where my mage learned the hard way not to have his frost shield up around neutrals. He has a talent that fires off frost novas when it procs, freezing (and aggroing) everything around him.

Bah. Use Seal of Wisdom and Judgement of Wisdom. If you’re Retribution, lean on your Judgements to take advantage of Judgements of the Wise. If they go down as easily as you say, you can survive without the extra damage from SoM or whichever Seal you normally use. Failing everything else, pack a heavy duty mana potion. If a Pally really wants mana really fast, they have plenty of ways to get it.

Since giving up on that quest, I realized I knew Divine Plea, but didn’t have it hotkeyed or even in my action bar. So that should help when I go back to try again. I also have plenty of big mana potions, but I have this unfortunate habit of saving them for “emergencies” because of the cooldown - I hate to use a potion “frivolously” and then not be able to use one when I really really need it. The result being that I almost never use a potion :smack:

Ah, okay, I was misremembering what I read on wowwiki.com:

Heck, I forgot about Divine Plea, since my Pally isn’t 71 yet.

I know what you mean about potions, though. My Hunter is still carrying around 15 Mana Potions which he outgrew like 20 levels ago. I just never used them because they were for emergencies. I really ought to drop them on the AH tonight.

I’m just the teensiest bit addicted to Mad Alchemist potions, and since I’m an alchemist, I can make all I want. I hardly ever use a regular healing or mana potion, unless I’m in a long fight and have been hitting my Serpent Sting-Concussive Shot-Steady Shot sequence a lot.

Wellsome of it, anyway.

I know y’all have been trying to tell me this about levelling before, but my mind musta not been “right” at the time, so last night when Animastryfe linked me to the formula on WoW-Wiki, I finally grasped the concept of what mobs I need to attack to gain XP (watching the “bar”), and therefore level, and so now I’m a 26 and know exactly who I need to go after (nothing lower than 20) to get to 27 and so forth.

Wish I could take all of you out for a round of drinks, for hanging with me like you have!

Thank You!

Q

Fruitful weekend for my hunter.

Bought a port to Dalaran and did a good bit of rubbernecking and exploration (the sewers are cool!) after I got the Torch Juggling quest done. Got my starter flying mount (woo hoo) and dinged 71 doing Sporeggar quests.

Nice. I aim to go back and Sporeggar it up once I hit 80, too. The Tiny Spore Bat is just adorable, but getting to Exalted pre-70 is a little tedious. (Need Javascript turned on for that last link.)

When I see chat written in green, is that my guild-member/leader speaking to me (Apparently, I belong to the guild Legends of Azeroth), or is that just guild-chat in general?

I ask because I have replied several times and have congratulated some players on levelling or achieving, but I am not sure if I am “reaching” them.

Thanks

Q

That’s “general” guild chat. The first time you reply, make sure you either click on the word [Guild] or type /g (with a space after the “g”) before you start typing your message. Otherwise your words will just appear in a speech bubble and the guild won’t see them.

Plans for tonight:

Slay mobs in Red Ridge and then meet someone who’s gonna run me through Dead Mines once more (so that I can FINALLY loot Van Cleef’s head!:smack:)).

If you see Wolkie (Wolkenlaufer) in Alextrazca, give us a whisper/wave, okay?

Thanks

Quasi

ETA: Thanks, Rik!

If you’re weaving in the Conc Shot for the extra Steady Shot damage bonus, take note that you’ll probably do more damage just using that GCD for another steady shot.

WOO-HOOOO!

You may now call my main, my lvl 80 Paladin, “Eilyssana the Explorer”

The tabard looks pretty cool, too.

Good day with my fishing dailies: the Dalaran bag had the Strand Crawler pet in it, and the Shattrath bag contained the Spun Truesilver Fishing Line! Of course, the fishing line would have been more useful if my Fishing skill wasn’t already at 450 …

Gratz, Rik!

And Impossible Wombat, thanks for the earlier tip on Stalvan, yeah I think I better “buddy up”, just like with the Blackrock Champs.

Hope to have good news later on tonight after my DM run!

Q

Heh, after seeing the horror that’s the Loremaster’s Colors, I stopped really caring about that achiement.

Since the changes to fishing I’m not sure what you want your max fishing skill to be, but remember that you wanted 525 fishing to fish up Mr. Pinchy in Terrokar during BC. Higher fishing will still reduce the amount of gray stuff you fish up in certain areas.

Currently the max skill you can have in fishing is (450 (skill) + 40 (best pole) + 5 (best line) + 100 (best bait) + 5 (best boots) + 5 (best gloves) + 2 (enchant) + 10 (lager) ) for 617, though you don’t need more than 575 to stop getting gray items.
