World of Warcraft General Discussion

There are rock giants in front of Uldum (level 45-ish, iirc).

As for the Darnassus rep you were seeing… most quests outside the first newbie area that award a primary faction rep (Horde or Alliance) also give a percentage of “spillover” rep for the other primary factions. For example, when you have a quest award 250 rep for a primary faction, you receive about 63 rep for the other primary factions.

You don’t usually have visibility of those secondary rep gains because the highest primary faction awarded is the only one listed in the chat message. But, since you’re already Exalted with the primary rep (Stormwind for Lakeshire, Ironforge for Wetlands), you don’t earn any more rep with them - all the rep is “spillover” rep. You also received rep for Exodar and Gnomeregan for those turnins, but I believe when displaying secondary rep gains, the game just chooses the first alphabetically, hence Darnassus being displayed. If you were Exalted with Darnassus when you turned in those quests, you probably would have seen Exodar listed, although you would still have gained rep with Gnomeregan as well.

ETA: since we got pushed onto a new page, this is in reference to the last post on the last page, Mister Rik’s post #2600.

I’m making a sort-of guess here, but one thing to keep in mind is that most quests that give rep for one Alliance (or Horde) city also give rep for all Alliance (or Horde) cities. It gives you full rep for the main faction or factions associated with the quest, then 1/4 for the other affiliated factions. Say for instance you complete a Stockade quest that normally gives you 500 rep with Stormwind. Assuming no Exalted reps, that would also give you 125 rep with Ironforge, Darnassus, Gnomer Exiles, and Exodar. It doesn’t list them, but you do get the rep. (This isn’t true for all quests, of course, but it is for many. Darkshore alone can get you several thousand rep for Gnomeregan.)

Here’s where guessing comes in: since you have Exalted with SW and IF, you’re not getting any rep for them, so the game still reports that you’re earning rep with the next best city, which I guess is Darnassus in this case. I don’t really know what kind of mechanic is behind choosing which city to report, I just know that since you’re still earning rep for the quest, it’s still going to tell you so even if it normally wouldn’t.

Thanks, WotI and Bosstone

Now, about Kalu’ak rep in Northrend … As near as I can tell, I’m pretty sure I’ve done all the quests for them (in Borean Tundra, Dragonblight, and Howling Fjord). I’m still only about 1/3 of the way from Revered to Exalted. Is that wolvar pup collection daily quest the only remaining way to gain rep with them? Cuz that seems like an awful lot of tedium to get that fishing pole.

And where oh where do I obtain the Oracle dailies in Sholazar? I’ve flown all over that zone and can’t find the questgiver.

Here are the Kalu’ak dailies: WowHead. Note that they are in three different zones - it’s somewhat annoying to do them all each day. I’ve never gotten around to it.

The Oracles daily quests start at Rainspeaker Canopy. There is a pretty long chain leading up to choosing a faction that you have to complete first - it starts with killing Pitch, a NPC in Sholozar.

Thanks - I wasn’t aware of the other two dailies at all!

Yup, did that. I actually started out with the Frenzyheart, and was extremely pissed after doing all the quests for them and getting my rep up only to have an, at the time, apparently random mob attack while I was investigating a wounded Oracle, and when I defended myself the Frenzyheart leader popped up with “A-ha! You help enemy! We no like you no more!” and suddenly all my rep with them was gone.

Is it just me, or do the Oracles and Frenzyheart come off like a bunch of squabbling children?

Not just you, though I sympathize more with the Oracles. They just seem more like they’re content to leave the Frenzyheart alone unless they’re attacked by them.

The Frenzyheart seem more like some sort of barbarian offshoot of the Redwall civilization.

I’d say the Frenzyhearts come out feeling pretty childlike – the Oracles are doing their best to deal with them, but they sometimes sink to their level =).

Based on what you’re saying here I’m not sure you finished the chain. It sounds like you stopped at thisquest. You start with the Frenzyheart and bounce back and forth throughout the chain. At the very endyou make a lasting choice - that is when the dailies open up.

In retrospect, I see that you might just be talking about your experience while going through the chain. If so, just ignore my comments above

They actually aren’t too bad if you’re also working Wyrmrest rep; there are two Wyrmrest dailies at Coldarra, not far from Kaskala, and the one up at the Temple in Dragonblight a short ways from Moa’ki. The one out in Howling Fjord is definitely out of the way though, unless you’re maybe hitting Grizzly Hills or the Alliance daily at Westguard Keep (I don’t recall Horde having a daily in the zone).

Just a suggestion for those who haven’t chosen their rep yet, you may want to go Frenzyheart first, if you’re interested in the achievement for the zone (gain Exalted with both) and collecting the rep rewards. The Oracles reward time investment a lot more, with four ambient pets and one flying mount that can be hatched from their one-week eggs, while the Frenzyheart have just one time sink in the disgusting jar (Frenzyheart Brew, an item that can turn you temporarily into a puppyman). If you’re the collector type, I could see spending well into the next expansion trying to get all the Oracle rewards, given the rarity of the mount at a 2% droprate (unlike the pets, you can’t get this one on the AH).

Nope, you’re correct. I lost my Frenzyheart rep, switched over to Oracles, and did all their quests, except I haven’t completed A Hero’s Burden. I’ll have to go back and try that one again - it’s still in my quest log.

Thanks! No wonder I couldn’t find the daily questgiver!

Wowjuju is my favorite site right now for help with faction reputation. Input your realm and character and it will show you not only all the ways to gain ground with every faction in the game, but also how many days of dailies it’ll take you to get up to exalted status.

Fizzwidget’s FactionFriend is my favorite reputation addon. A friend recommended it when I mentioned I’d like a plugin that automatically changes my rep bar anytime I gain or lose with a faction. A second feature I really dig is that it adds tooltips to all items that are reputation turn-ins, and plots on your rep bar where you’d be if you cashed in everything you currently have.

A Hero’s Burden is pretty tough - even at level 80. You might need a buddy to help you out on that one. (I did as a level 80, though not an insanely-geared 80, DK).

New, totally unrelated question:

Today I took a toolie through Maraudon, finished the quest with the scepter, and killed all the sub-bosses in the instance.

But I simply cannot figure out how to get to where Princess Theradras is. I can see the stone bridge above me, crossing over the pool where I killed Rotgrip, but for the life of me I can’t find the way up there.

Help?

Re: Maraudon

You know where you killed the Cenarion guy (looks like a centaur made with a stag rather than a horse) to make the scepter? Behind that is an area with a bunch of turtles wandering around; if you jump off there, you’ll be in a big pond with hydras wandering around on the nearby land. Get out of the pond and head toward the back wall, on the left is a tunnel entrance with flowers on either side, dinosaurs and rock monsters inside. Turn left every time you have the option and you’ll eventually work your way up and around to the Princess - she’s past a few of those big rock giants. ETA: at one point you’ll have to double back to go “left” - if you go down through diemetradons and end up by the goblin, you’ve missed the turn.

If you’re outside the instance, you can use the sceptre in the exterior caves to teleport directly into the big pond mentioned above, near the hydras. When you enter the caves outside the instance, you’ll get to that four-way intersection leading to the orange and purple areas. Don’t turn, just go directly through the archway ahead of you - you’ll end up at a small room with four braziers; use the sceptre there to open a portal that will teleport you inside.

Hope that helps, it’s the best I can do from memory, and it is admittedly confusing even when you know how to get there.

Thanks

Okay, what’s the trick to getting this scepter to make the portal? I’ve right-clicked it outside the instance entrance itself, I’ve right-clicked it after making my way all the way out of Maraudon and back out into Desolace in front of the front door … it makes a funny noise but other than that, nothing happens.

Do I need to equip the scepter? I can’t - it’s a staff.

Ahh, sorry, they’ve changed it since I last ran Mara… the Scepter is just a staff now, and the portal is always open. So just head in from the outside, and as mentioned above, when you get to the four-way intersection with the orange & purple wings, just head straight through the archway (don’t turn into either coloured area) and wind down a short ways - the portal should be there and drop you into the pool mentioned above.

Thanks again  I did manage to find my way to her using your first set of directions, but, sigh now I need to do it again because I killed her without having the quest to do so (for some reason the quest to kill her didn’t show up until after I finished the first couple quests to go in there). I’ll try to find the portal this time.

ETA: AFter killing her, is there an easier way back out of the instance? That was a royal pain in the neck having to run all the way back out again.

Oh my …

Location: Thunder Axe Fortress, Desolace
Quest: Search for Tyranis
NPC: Dalinda Malem

“I’m not sure I could endure returning home to my family with news of Tyranis’ spirit flirting with such dangers. It’s a terrible enough crime among my kind to pursue such things, but to become that which we attempt to protect ourselves from, well, that’s apprehensible.”

:smack:

Wellll… ahem (pulls at tie, like Rodney Dangerfield, and is a tad embarrassed).

I have seven bag slots already in my bank. Some were gifts, and some I bought. The largest has space for 14 items and the smallest for 6, and they’re all pretty much full, mostly w/ linen and wool cloths, some swords, some armor, some patterns, mana potion (I know: sell it), magic dust…

I didn’t know what to keep and what to sell. I am training in First Aid and Fishing, and my main profession is blacksmithing, but every time I check w/ my trainer, I’m not at a high enough level (for the smithing).

Get rid of the weapons? (The one I carry is stronger than any of the ones in the bank).

I didn’t know how MANY of the cloths I should keep in the bank, but it looks like they’re drops from many mobs…

Thanks
