World of Warcraft General Discussion

Huh, I learned something new today! I was trying to figure out you beat a level 55 as a 33 in a duel (I doubt you could even hit him…). After doing some research I discovered the “/yield” command!

He beat me first, jayjay! And he was a great sport while we were fighting, giving me tips and stuff to use. He’s just a very nice guy, just like “Shimmy” is.

(sorry, man, I cannot remember your SD nick, but I love it when you help me out!)

Also jay? Amberale tells me I can buy those pages in the AH?

Thanks

Q

Yes, you can. I’m just a cheap-ass who almost never buys stuff on the AH and didn’t remember to tell you about it.

Yes, you can. I always grab the ones I can’t find during my questing there rather than farming trolls for hours looking for the missing ones.

Yes, you can buy them at the AH. They tend to drop randomly from mobs, so it’s not unusual to pick up extras and sell them. Check in your guild bank first, though; there may be some in there as well.

I’m still working on my weapon quest. I managed to get to Shadowfang Keep, but I think I may have to call in the SO or a guildie to help keep the mobs off me while I look for the hammer. They’re not high-level; they just tend to come in groups. I have the gem and ore, so I need the hammer and wood. The wood is in the Deadmines, which will be pretty easy to deal with now. I may gather a group and just run the whole thing, since I do have some other quests in there.

The problem with the Green Hills Stranglethorn Pages is you get random ones. While you might need, what is it, 15 or 16 different pages, during your time in Stranglethorn you might get 5 of one page, 3 of another, 8 of another, but some of them you’ll never see. Rather than drive yourself crazy trying to find those last couple of pages, buy the pages you need off the AH. There’s almost always at least one of each, and they’re generally reasonably priced.

Then, as you’re questing through Stranglethorn and you pick up pages, you can turn around and sell them on the AH. You’ll make the money back that you originally put into buying the pages, and you’ll be helping other people out by providing pages they’re having trouble getting.

I can’t get there from here (at work), but you could check out WoW Insider. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen articles about it there in the past that mentioned numbers.

I always love the stuff you pull up in there. If you fish in Org, you can have a chance to fish up a rare fish that gets you an achievement (IIRC Old Crafty is the one in Org and Old Ironjaw is the one in IF).

Yup, they push the new patches before they go live to lower the amount of network traffic on patch day. There are often still changes to be made–they just want to start getting the data out there.

Psh, weapons are just stat-sticks for you casters. :stuck_out_tongue:

Only in terms of DPS–most melee abilities require you to have a weapon equipped. Some even specify that it must be a 1H melee weapon.

I used to get so lost in Booty Bay, it’s not even funny.

I killed a ~60 DK with a 19 twink Mage. My friend let me hammer on him so that my toon could get the achivement for killing one of every class. The Mage had to hit him with her staff, because almost all of her spells kept missing; she stood behind him so he couldn’t dodge or parry, and he also got naked and jumped off a hill to cut down his HP some. It’s doable, it’s just a giant pain in the ass.

1.) Also try the General chat for STV. Advertise what pages you’re looking for and what pages you have extras of. People will often be interested in swapping pages, selling you what you need, or buying what you have.

2.) If you go the AH route, make sure you check **both **the Neutral Goblin-run AHes (the Booty Bay AH is one) **and **your faction-specific AHes (in the capital cities).

Note for Quasi: The Booty Bay Auction House isn’t in a building. It’s two goblins standing on crates outside the Port Authority or whatever that first building is on the dock when you come off the ship.

Actually, IIRC, there are two by the bank at the right end of the town (the end with the inn, opposite the left end with the boat dock and the exit to STV), and then another one by the building you mentioned.

I didn’t realize that. I must have missed them completely.

Thanks! Glad you told me about the Booty Bay AH (I just love that name, and wish I could meet up with some chick who has as nice a “booty” as my Heather in the Sentinel Hill Inn!;)) 'cause I would have flown all the way back to Stormwind City, if you hadn’t told me, jay!:smack:

And in case I haven’t told y’all lately, thanks for the help - it is ALWAYS appreciated.

And even though we play on different servers, I kinda feel like y’all are “there” with me when I play (which is often so long my wife freaks out when she sees my swelled ankles!).

When I say “I don’t get out much”, that’s true these days, I’m afraid, so I really enjoy my time in Azeroth (and will enjoy the other worlds as well! :)).

Also, just a comment about the gold spammers: Man! Can y’all imagine HAVING to play WoW for a living??? I feel for 'em a little, I reckon (and not just because I fell for their spiel and bought 3k worth of gold that time either:smack:), because they’re always so sweet when they whisper “Hey, I hope I’m not bothering you…”, I hate to hit that spam button.

You know what, though?

The way that whole thing went down (when I bought the gold, I mean?) still puzzles me.

A GM actually came online and BLOCKED the trade as it was taking place (which is when I knew I had screwed up), but then the gold wound up in my account anyway. I would have gladly taken the “hit”, and even wrote to WoW that I was guilty of breaking the rules, but they just as much as said “Go and sin no more, my son”.

I wouldn’t ever do that again, but WTF?

(Also, I’ve been very generous with my ill-gotten gains, feeling kinda like a mafia thug who also supports the church! :D)

Well, gotta go take my diuretic! LOL:smiley:

Quasi

It would be fun if I could get paid to play WoW the way I enjoy playing it. Unfortunately, most gold farming involves tedious grinding. (A lot of gold also comes from hacked accounts, as a combination of the actual gold on the accounts, and the value of the materials they had.)

3k gold is actually a pretty small amount in the grand scheme of things, which is probably why they didn’t bother. (I’ve spent 1k to 3k gold on individual non-combat pets, if that tells you anything.) Since you clearly didn’t know you were breaking the rules and even turned yourself in, I’m guessing they decided to just let you keep it, since it wasn’t enough to really go crazy with.

ETA:

I’ll see your diuretic and raise you two anticoagulants! (Hope you have a bucket by the computer…)

I have a catheter installed…

JK!

…trying to do The Second Rebellion quest, but I keep running into higher level monsters. Is there anything back in Booty Bay that’s more my “speed” to do?

I’ve been to the STV healer twice now, and this is gettin’ embarrassin’! :o

Also, I went to the AH in BB, but didn’t really find the pages of the book I need.

Anyone know what “section” I need to be “shopping” in?

Also, SFG: Did you mean you’re taking anti-coagulants or that I’m a high risk for DVT? (which I know is true - sitting as long as I do!;))

Thanks also for the explanation re: the gold. That makes sense - that it’s “small potatoes”, I mean!

Thanks

Q

Quasi, it’s worth mentioning that the Auction House in Booty Bay is a Neutral auction house; it’s not linked to either the Alliance or Horde auction houses. Because of that, there’s often very little activity on it.

In the servers I’m on, almost no one uses the Goblin auction house for that very reason; kind of a catch-22 (no one uses them because no one uses them  ) It’s also harder to get to - you have to be in Booty Bay or Gadgetzan to access it – Goblin towns that people don’t visit very often except during their questing. (I don’t remember there being one in Rachet, or Everlook, the other two goblin towns I can think of).

Not to say that it might not be worth checking for Green Hills of Stranglethorn pages when you’re in Booty Bay – just don’t expect to find nearly as much as you would if you flew to Stormwind and checked the Alliance AH there. Also, if you try and put anything for sale in the Booty Bay AH, don’t be surprised if it doesn’t sell.

This is also why it’s profitable to do. If getting largish amounts of gold invovled doing the fun stuff, no one would pay a farmer to do it for them.

That’s one of the things I’ve never understood about the gold farming thing. They sell relatively small amounts of gold at very high prices. The risk/reward ratio just doesn’t make sense to me. I could see spending maybe $100 to get enough to kit out my 2 80s, but that comes to something like 300k (all mounts, all pets, the Dal rings, etc.). And, since it’s against the ToS, I’m not sure I’d risk it even if it was that cheap.

Power level makes even less sense to me. How the hell do you learn anything about the class if you don’t level it (besides, the last 15 or so levels is where you get piles of gold from doing the leveling quests).

I’ll throw in my three diuretics, and top them off with two stimulants and a tri-cyclic. (I gave blood last weekend, and my BP was 141/79, Woot! (I haven’t seen the lower number under 84 in the last 5 years)).

Quasi, northern Stranglethorn is a lower-level area than the area around Booty Bay. There are two Alliance/neutral quest concentrations up there: the Nesingwary folks (which you found already if you did the hunting quests(raptors/panthers/tigers)) (you’ll also meet them in Outland and in Northrend, with the same kind of quests) and the Rebel Camp, which is up the hill by the bridge over to Duskwood, in the extreme northeast corner of the zone. By the time you finish those up, you should be able to handle stuff around Booty Bay in the southern parts.

Keep in mind that many of the quests you get in Booty Bay send you to kill stuff in the northern end of Stranglethorn, so it might be a good idea to at least check all the questgivers in Booty Bay out. Still, Stranglethorn Vale got quests from level 30 to 45 so by the time the high level quests are yellow the low level ones will be grey.

Jeeeezus! I just got creamed/triple teamed by those fat-ass “Stitches” - lookin’ guys! I’m gonna rez and hearth back to Booty BaY and fly over to Darkshire and start from that side…:smack:

Damn, and here I was about to hand you the “most hardcore gamer in the thread” award.

You don’t need to select a particular section to search in. Just type “Green Hills” and any pages should pop up.

I was referring to the drugs I’m on. Mmmmmn, prescription med poker!

In my experience, the Green Hills pages are one of the few things that tend to show up more frequently and cheaper in the Goblin AHes versus the faction ones. But I agree that you really don’t want to look for much else there (or post anything to sell). (One exception is pets that can be bought or farmed by one faction but not the other.)

The people who use power-leveling services don’t want to learn how to play. They want a powerful character with no effort to obtain it.

Don’t forget to pick up the flight point there. (It didn’t used to exist–and that was back when you didn’t get your first mount until 40, too. My main character’s feet spent a lot of time pounding the road that runs from north to south of STV.)

Weird, I don’t remember there being any abominations (those big fat undead guys) in STV. I wonder if someone pulled the actual Stitches down from Duskwood. Hrm, but that wouldn’t explain three of them.
