World of Warcraft General Discussion

Cool. I’ll try it again later

I also just finished scholoing Scholomance. Ye gads, I picked up a crapload of runecloth in there (231 pieces)! Also a crapload of various scourgestones, which gave my Argent Dawn rep a nice boost.

I’m kinda ticked, though, that after clearing out the whole place, I went back outside and handed in a quest to the old folks’ ghosts outside - the quest involving killing a specific boss and burning the old folks’ corpses. And then the woman hands me another quest to go back in and kill another specific boss … one which I had of course already killed (that Jandice woman), who I happened to find before I found my way to the first boss I was supposed to kill. So now I suppose I have to wait for the instance to reset before I can go back in and kill her. Good god, there’s no reason the two quests couldn’t have been handed out at the same time!

Tried to hang, but just couldn’t.

They’re kids and don’t know how to relate to someone like me.

I saw it tonight when I tried to join in the guild chatter: Not one of them would respond to anything I said or asked or even the “gratz” I made SURE everyone got when he or she levelled or achieved.

They’re children fer Chrissakes!

They don’t need some dweeb like me trying to join in their fun and ruining it, because I don’t understand the fucking STRATEGY!

That’s why they play WoW: to get away from stuff like me.

I’ll just grind my levels, and continue to ask my dumb-ass questions here if ya’ll will let me!

Thanks

The instance reset option available in parties is also available when solo; just right click your portrait and select the “reset all instances” option.

Whoa, cool! Thanks!

Really, you haven’t figured out by now that the vanilla dungeon quest design sucks ?
If you think Scholo is bad wait until you get started on the Strat quests.

Erg. And don’t you pretty much have to run all the way through Stratholme each time? The one time I wandered in there I discovered the portcullis locks behind me and I can’t just turn around and walk out again …

Of course, the last time I tried going in there I got that furshlugginer “Additional instances cannot be launched” crap that I’ve been getting all the time lately (I was actually surprised when I successfully entered Scholomance). I’ve got three separate quests to do in SFK, and three times I’ve traveled all the way there only to find that “Additional instances cannot be launched”

If you keep right after you enter you’ll eventually encounter Magistrate Barthilas who drop the key to the back door, and the instance is actually pretty small, just full of trash and has a slightly confusing layout that makes it seem larger. No, scratch that, the instance is actually pretty big but it’s split into two parts and most of the time you think about them as two separate instances, Strat Scarlet and Strat Baron.
Problem is that in order to get the quest to kill Baron Rivendare(last boss in Strat Baron) you need to complete a quest where you kill the second to last boss in Strat Scarlet, once you’ve completed that quest you can go kill the last boss in Strat Scarlet and loot his head which start the quest to kill the Baron.

Yeah, it’s annoying, but the instance servers can only support so many instances at the same time. I’ve been told they’re working on it :dubious:

Hijack: I am so not fond of Blizzard making quests that require you to kill a questgiver for another side. That guy is the source of several Horde quests in a big series.

So… Sam Raimi directing the WoW movie.

Wow. That chain really takes the cake as far as quests that make you be a complete asshole.

Famous war hero has the misfortune of falling in combat with the Scourge while defending his homeland, is fortunately rescued from eternal slavery in undeath by the compatriot of his glory days – obviously, the proper course of action is to kill him again, just because he’s not entirely human anymore.

Yeah, okay then. No wonder Nathanos has such a sour attitude.

I can’t help but imagine a WoW movie featuring the lead characters relentlessly grinding rep in Winterspring.

There are more social guilds, and guilds for adults only out there. Maybe you would do better with one of them. They tend to be a bit more laid back and more “our style”.

Killing thousands of boars in Goldshire

As a matter of fact, Quasi, if you don’t mind starting over playing Horde, there’s a Straight Dope guild on the Cairne server called “The Burning Dog Legion”. If you wanted to switch and go over there, you’d have plenty of people who actually DO know what you’re suffering from and will have a lot of compassion and understanding for you. And most of them KNOW you already from here.

Of course, that would mean you’d only be able to visit Heather occasionally, but you can always “recreate” Wolkie over on Cairne for occasional visits…you can have Horde AND Alliance toons on the same server as long as it’s not a PvP server.

If you decide to start anew, you might find the Paladin a little more accessible in terms of melee DPS; I saw your comment above, Quasi, about being able to just do a specific thing to succeed, and unfortunately, a Warrior really just doesn’t work that way. Warriors have to adapt on the fly a lot and can be tough to solo and understand, while a Ret Paladin is a much more straightforward playstyle. Paladins also have the bonus of being able to heal themselves, resulting in a lot less levelling downtime than the Warrior. Plus, you get your level 30 (soon to be 20) mount free. Paladin tanking is also a lot easier and more forgiving than Warrior tanking, if you were to want to explore that role.

Pretty much. Early Paladins (as in like the first 30-50 levels) only need to do the following to be effective at soloing:

  1. Turn on Devotion Aura.
  2. Turn on Seal of Righteousness.
  3. Turn on Blessing of Might.
    (Above is done before fighting.)
  4. Target enemy.
  5. Use Judgment of Light.
  6. Auto-attack.
  7. Repeat 5-6 until enemy is dead.
  8. In case of emergency, cast Holy Light or Flash of Light on yourself.

I’ve soloed Hogger at level 9 doing this. I love Paladins.

Really, in most games the Warrior or the Fighter is the most brainless class to play: just get a lot of armor and a big sword and hit stuff until they die. In Warcraft, that’s the Paladin, not the Warrior.

That explains the blood elf who was also waiting. Dude probably thought I had already killed Nathanos and was being a jerk waiting to kill him again. At one point the belf used an emote on me (/attack, I assume) that caused the text “<Name> tells you to attack something.” Since there was nothing to attack I responded with a /shrug.

But geez, if Nathanos is a Horde questgiver, that makes his respawn time that much worse.

Jumping mammoths to the top of the SW bank fountain.

40 exhalted? Wow. Life much? Who in their right mind would spend that much time farming rep for a couple of pixels in a video game?

And SFG, if you look at my next post you’d clearly see I didn’t mean to sound accusatory towards you.

Hmm, who has less of a life? The person grinding rep and such on this game, or the person who apparently only exists to mock said person?

Another vote for Quasi joining the Burning Dog Legion over on Cairne (Horde).

We’ll get you leveled up to the 20s in no-time.

And while I kept thinking that a pure-dps-class would be better than a hybrid, I guess I agree that Pally would suit you well.
