It probably wouldn’t hurt to check with the guy in Booty Bay, too, in case you already did the escort quest and just need to go back to him for the reward. And, like I said, if all else fails, you can always ask a GM.
Oh, absolutely. Ditto the Eredar Twins and Felmyst in Sunwell. A few months back our guild decided to go back and do Sunwell at 80 (we’d managed to make it as far as attempts on Kil’jaeden at 70, but hadn’t killed him yet). We only had about 10 people, so we opened it up for guildies to bring friends. One guy brought in 4 or 5 of his RP buddies–they were 80, but they’d never seen the inside of a raid in their lives.
We ended up repeatedly wiping on the Eredar Twins because these guys *could not *get the idea of “If you get Conflagation on you, MOVE or you’re going to wipe the raid!” We finally ended up just bagging the run for that night, then tried it again later that week *sans *RP buddies. Fewer people, but we killed them in a couple of shots.
Not to mention quite lucrative in terms of XP (if you’re not 80 yet) and money. And the reward weapon is pretty nice if you’re appropriately leveled for it.
Amphitheater of Anguish was a blast. Half a DK pug I was in wanted to do it plus Ragemane’s Flipper. So we collected a few more warm bodies and went in with a full group. Amusing things: The announcer yelling that my pet had pwned face.
One of the druids in the pug got the Of Blood and Anguish ach, so the next day when a guildie I’d just finished running through Underbog and Slave Pens passed Garadar, I piped up with “Why don’t we try this here Ring of Blood? Might be fun!” The two of us (78 BM hunter and 70 enh shaman) went in with my monkey tanking, taking breaks in between the last 2 rounds for our Oshti buttons to come off CD. The final round had a nasty surprise so it took us a couple tries, but we did it.
I’ll nth the liking for Zul’Drak – it feels very awesome. I have two stacks of Bowels ‘n’ Brains as a memento, too.
Had the last boss of BWL yelling something at a “puny Bloodworm!” on Friday. I laughed.
One of my earlier complaints about that quest had to do with his needing to eat storm clouds (or whatever they are) to heal. My gripe was that he says absolutely nothing about this before you start the quest - the first I heard about it was when he started hollering for a storm cloud when he was very low on health, and I’m all “What the hell?” So somebody pointed out that the instructions are in the tooltip for the relevant button, but the problem is that the instant you climb on his shoulder two million undead attack you all at once and you don’t really have time to stand there reading tooltips.
Then there’s the fact that Thrym vanishes from the right-there-in-plain sight place you’ve already seen him in as soon as you start the quest, and doesn’t reappear until after you’ve killed one of the other bosses, and unless you know that ahead of time you end up wasting all sorts of time trying to find him and wondering where the hell he went (especially since, as big as he is, he shouldn’t be that hard to find).
And I couldn’t even find a storm cloud when I needed one.
I just think it’s a poorly-designed quest. It’s the kind of thing somebody mentioned in a thread recently about “things that piss you off in video games”: parts of the game that are designed as a guaranteed fail the first time you encounter them.
I’ll also freely admit there are some kinds of things I’m just not good at.
Yeah, I’ve done every quest chain that starts at one of the various bases in Zul’Drak, up to the point where I have to take on a world elite (soloing at lvl 80, I’m good for up to about lvl 72 elites, with some exceptions). I did finally finish Ragemane’s Flipper when I happened to be in the zone when somebody issued a “LFG Ragemane” in General.
I’ve found yet another reason to hate the Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth. I tried my hand at the Fishing Extravaganza again yesterday, and in the process made my first ever “report a player”. I reported a player for parking her (female toon) mammoth on top of the Tastyfish school I was fishing. She wasn’t making any attempt to fish the school herself, just preventing me from doing so. And I’m pretty sure she was in communication with the person who won the contest, because she finally got out of the way about 2 seconds before the winner was announced (basically, it looked like the winner told her something like “hearthing now”, so there was no reason for her to continue to obstruct me since I could no longer beat the other person back to BB). I had seen her mammoth earlier near other players, so it looks to me like she was just randomly interfering with people just long enough to make them miss a fish or two.
Granted, she didn’t actually prevent me from winning, as I was only at 31 tastyfish when the winner was announced (and I said as much in my report), but it’s the principle of the thing. Griefing is griefing, and until the winner was announced I still had a chance as far as I knew. I know their policy is to not inform me of what, if any, discipline was handed out, but I figured they’d at least let me know they got my report, and maybe let me know if my complaint was valid or not.
I didn’t stay online with that toon long enough to get a GM response, but I’m a little surprised I haven’t gotten an e-mail like I have in the past when I opened a ticket and didn’t get an in-game response before logging out (that one was an issue in my early days with the game when I though a quest wasn’t working right).
Yeah, that was me. “Don’t Panic” is always good advice, 99% of the time you’re better off taking moment and reading the tooltips rather than running around like a headless chicken randomly pushing buttons. Besides, considering the size difference, what are those undead going to do ? Gnaw his toes off?
I succeeded with this quest on my first try so failure is obviously not guaranteed.
Anyway, the point right now is that now you know all those things so if you need the quest for the achievement you should have no trouble doing it.
For some reason I suspect that you are lucky you’ve never raided Mister Rik, some encounters really are designed to guarantee failure the first 50 or so tries
But see, I didn’t know that at the time. Add in the fact that I couldn’t see anything because Mr. Giant’s shoulders were filling the entire 1680-pixel width of my screen, and all I knew was that something was hitting me and I didn’t know what, and so my first response to that was to try to get away/move to see what’s attacking me. And, at the time, I was utterly unfamiliar with the command-line code that would let me zoom out further so that I could see around me.
Then of course there’s the issue (once I’d learned the zooming thing) of “He won’t move forward! Why won’t he move?! Oh, I see, there’s a little tiny rock on the ground that he can’t, for some incomprehensible reason, step over …”
Thanks for “partying up” up with me this evening in Southshore!
You and your minion were awesome, und ich bin sehr dankbar für Ihre Zeit und Gastfreundlichkeit!
Wolkie now has that Yeti cloak protecting his back, and looks even more like a pimp than he did before, but we don’t care!
Whatever offers the most protection and stamina is what we go for!
And yep, we’re still using that two handed sword, but I was wondering: He’s carrying that thing on his back!
Is it sheathed and I just don’t see it or is it just the naked blade?
If it is just the sword without a sheath, wouldn’t it cut through, and then begin to slice open his back???
WoW pays such close attention to detail, I’d be surprised if it weren’t in a sheath, but I’ve never heard that metal against metal “slide” as he begins his fights.
Whatcha’ll think?
Thanks
Quasi, Wolkie and Silka:)
No problem, it is always nice grouping up to break up faction grinding quests 30 levels too low =)
It is always fun questing and getting an upgrade out of it. Just wait until you hit Outlands at 58, there are some very nice quest goodies. I know most all of the alliance quests up there, so we can go through them together.
Yes, the zweihander is carried on the back. No sheath in site, but it seems to do no damage to the back, so I just sort of roll with it. You might be able to get more dps out of dual weilding weapons, not sure but a warrior may be around shortly to explain the mechanics of it …
tchauss!
Why aren’t the patchnotes up at WoW.com? I have to find it in random places on the web.
New raid and new dungeon! New Battleground! New Druid forms!, New Fun!
hello everyone, have been lurking for awhile and finally decided to buy wotk after a long break.
one major difference that stood out to me is all the instance runs. people are spamming WTS/WTB runs on trade chat just like any other commodity. even in the newer instances, i’ve pugged with people who got their lvl 80 guildies to ‘help out’. what happened to enjoying the game pre-level cap? about the most boring thing i’ve done is to follow an 80 round an instance looting stuff. the other night i had someone leave a full group all met up in the instance because there was an 80 running him. that’s just sad.
well i have a suggestion, with 3.2 and the ability to stop xp gains, i was wondering if anyone would be interested in a ‘fresh from the ground, no help from mains’ guild with a level cap of 19, on a server somewhere where nobody have characters? the main objective would be to recreate the initial play experience with no short cuts available to them. to play vc or god forbid wc as it’s meant to be played?
it’s not a twink guild where you get the best stuff to pvp, it’s just a ‘country’ guild where you visit once in a while to kick back and run instances without the feeling that people are rushing through just for xp and gear.
what do you guys think?
A side note: When I play my gnome, I’m prone to really bad jokes and puns in guild chat. Whilst in the hinterlands, I kept talking about how frustrating it all was (it wasn’t. This was, in the business, what we call a ‘set-up’.) Finally, after a while, I said something along the lines of:
“There’s no truth in advertising! I can’t find anything, and there’s not a single hinter in this land giving out hints!”
I was almost /gkicked for it, but luckilly I’ve been known to say worse, and my main always brings fish feasts to raids.
You mean these notes? ![]()
Yay 3.2!
Yay patch, but boo me for not thinking to load up my client to start the download while I’m at work… so much for hitting up the new dungeon tonight.
I have a quick question about a quest that requires an item. There is an escort quest in Un’Goro that requires a Mithril Casing and I will be trying it grouped with another player. Do we both need a Mithril Casing to do the escort? Or can I get away with just one of us having one?
I can’t access the patch notes from work. Did I hear something about being able to purchase a cold-weather flying token (or something like that) to give to a lower-level alt? How much does that cost and who do you get it from?
My rogue was 68 when she went to Northrend, and now she’s 71 and knows flying but rarely gets the chance because there’s no need to go back to Outland.
You both need it. You can’t complete the quest unless you have it in your possession.
Generally speaking, if you need an item to accomplish some other objective to complete the mission – like, say, you’re given a quest to kill a beast and you need some meat to lure it out – only one of you needs the item. In the example, one person has the item, lures out the beast, then you both get credit for the kill which is really what counts.
On the other hand, if the objective of the quest is an item, like the mithril casing or a beer or just a standard collection quest, then you need to actually have the items in your inventory to properly complete the quest.
Sorry for not multi-quoting, this came up as I was posting.
If you have a level 77+ alt, you can buy a Cold Weather Manual for 1000 gold in Dalaran, not sure where. It binds to account, so you can only send it to your own characters. It allows a level 68+ alt to learn CWF early.
Me, my highest is still only 72, 60% to 73. Sloooowly working my way there. Although now that 3.2 hit, I may leave Northrend and do quests in Netherstorm or something so I can take advantage of flight for a while.
Yes, it’s an heirloom training book that can be purchased by a lvl 80 character. It is consumed when “read” by the lower-level alt. The cost is the same as cold-weather flying (1000g but with faction discount for Kirin Tor, I believe) and I believe it can be bought from the same person that trains cold-weather flying.
ETA: Confirmed that at least on the PTR it was sold by Hira Snowdawn, the cold-weather flying trainer on the landing in Dalaran.
