World of Warcraft General Discussion

Of course I meant “dissin’ you” and not “yo’”.

Didn’t mean to lapse into street-speak, mah Homies!

Q

…and trying to obtain the Banner of The Stonemaul.

We’re within 1 yard of it, but cannot find it. Is a raptor or something supposed to re-spawn with it in its mouth???

The green arrow of Quest Helper is pointing straight down.

Thanks

Q

The Banner is inside a cave. You might be on top of it. Are you outdoors? Did you get into the Den of Flame?

I’m outdoors, jay. Didn’t look for a cave though, and yes, I did get into the DoF. Let me go back and check for a cave.

Thanks

Q

**Found ** it! Thanks jay!

Walked right in, and attacked a friendly who was doing her own quest.

I wrote SORRY! to her, but she never responded, which brings up another QQ (Quasi Question):

When that happens, (a non-PVP attacking another character - whether they are PVP or not) do they notice it? 'Cause I reaaallly lit into her, big-time! :frowning:

[Yoda] Embarassing, it was! [/Yoda]

Thanks!

Q

If she actually WAS a friendly (another Alliance player), you couldn’t have actually attacked her. You may have run through her, or ended up fighting a mob near her, but you couldn’t have attacked her.

KK, so it’s a moot point?

I thought she was a baddie, hit her with a yell, sword, thunderclap, the kitchen sink ;), but she didn’t think “WTF???!”.

Right?

NOT being deliberately obtuse jay, but, for example, I saw your toon in SW, walked up to you/him, and drew down on you/him - it’s like it isn’t really happening as far as you’re concerned?

Thanks

Q

Yep. You wouldn’t be able to actually touch me, even if we were both flagged for PvP. The only way for friendlies to fight is for one to challenge the other to a duel and for the other to accept it, and that can’t happen accidentally*.
*Well, it can, but you’d still have to challenge the other to a duel. The “accidentally” is if they mistakenly hit “Accept” instead of “Decline”. It can’t happen without the challenge.

Hey all,

I’m a returning player to WoW. I quit back in January because work was making my life too busy. Well work has calmed down some and I’ve been back for a week. My main characters are all Horde on Blackhand server, anyone else from there? I’ve just been piddling around with daily quests and enjoying the dual spec system. I ran as a protection warrior for so long, I’ve forgotten what doing actual damage feels like. Watching the big, shiny numbers fury puts up has been a treat.

Anyway, just saying hi. I need to start looking for a guild soon, my old one seems to have disappeared.

If you don’t mind transferring a toon, or starting over, there is a Doper guild on Cairne called Burning Dog Legion.

Hey, remember a while back when I mentioned I had experimented with the AutoGratz addon, but uninstalled it because I decided it sounded insincere (and annoying)? (For those who don’t remember, it’s an addon that automatically responds in guild chat with “Gratz!” every time a guildmate earns an achievement or says “Ding!”).

Fahrenz, my human warrior on a RP server, just joined a guild, and apparently a large number of people in the guild have this addon, so I’m seeing just how annoying it is from the other side. Aside from the barrage of insta-gratz sent my way when I earned [Expert Cook] and [Expert Fisherman], it would appear there’s another similar, even more annoying addon out there, because when I dinged level 15 (which I didn’t announce) I got an automatic, “Congratulations to Fahrenz on reaching level 15!” Level 15! WTF?! There’s not even an achievement for that! Lord I hope it’s not going to do that every single level. To make matters worse, five minutes later another guild member logged in and as soon as they logged in they sent me exactly the same message. That particular person had been logged in while I was still level 14, but had logged out before I hit 15, so it would appear that this addon must keep track of everybody’s level and send congratulations if they’ve leveled since the last time they saw you…

OTOH, the guild name is spelled and capitalized properly, and doesn’t contain the word “Elite”, so that’s an encouraging sign

I really hate the concept of AutoGratz. It trivializes honest sentiment by doing it automatically (and I’m sure it’s obvious when it’s automatic) and doing it for every stupid little thing. When people gratz me for catching 100 Fish, I feel like I’m supposed to say something like “Thank you, thank you. I accept this achievement on behalf of all the little fish who helped me get to where I am today…”

Every 10 levels, dungeon completion, and rare achievements. Those get a gratz. Any dope can hit Journeyman First Aid.

What’s always funny is when, due to differences in latency amongst the various people in the guild, some people see the “Gratz!” appear in their chat window before the announcement of the thing being gratz’d. That was the primary factor in why I stopped using it.

The whole game is filled with racial stereotyping. They drew many of their ideas from the real world, ranging from the Scottish dwarves to the Russian space goats to the Jamaican trolls. It’s not just racial stereotyping, either: the Nessingwary big-game-hunter stereotype, the DEHTA/PETA folks, and so on.

Welcome back to World of Warcrack!

Well, the Saronite Ore AH pricing is approaching rock-bottom stupid on Lightbringer. A couple days ago somebody actually posted something like 20 stacks of the ore with a buyout of 12.50 — exactly what they would get if they smelted it and then turned around and sold the resulting bars to the Blacksmithing Supplies vendor next to the forge instead of putting it on the AH (where they get 12.50 minus the AH cut).

So in this case I actually bought up as much of it as I could, along with a bunch of sub-14g ore that was also posted at the same time. Smelted it all, and sold the resulting bars for 30g/stack.

So today I found Saronite Ore going for 12g/stack :smack:

Only one stack, alas, but I went ahead and bought it up.

The one that really cracks me up are the Native American Tauren. It’s like they kept one-upping themselves in seeing just how close to offensive they could get.

But of course, none of these groups are significant demographics with an omnipresent authority that’s easy to piss off, like the Chinese, so it’d be dangerous for Blizzard to make too much of the Pandaren.

Ugh this sucks. I was desperately trying to finish the Argent Tourny dailies before 3am, so I could do them again in the morning, which would make 25 seals to turn in for Orgrimarr. I think I managed to finish everything in record time, and was flying into the Sunreavers’ tent to turn everything in with 4 minutes to spare…

…and I guess I must have flown into a wall as I was being dismounted, because I got stuck. I had some magic eater fish in my bag, and ate that, thinking that if I got shape-shifted, it might unstick me. No avail. I tried the “character stuck” button in a last ditch effort, but of course it just hearthed me back to Dalaran, just in time to see “You can only complete 25 more daily quests today.” At least I have a head-start for tomorrow, though.

Excuse me: the Scottish female dwarves, Cossack male dwarves and Indian space goats.

I think it’s kind of cool, actually. The “Pirate Day” achievement brought many questions from people who wanted to know what the heck that was and just which kind of moron would think it’s a good idea to celebrate pirates (I think that was more or less the phrasing, my guild has a “clean language” rule). The Draenei dances brought much viewing of Bollywood clips. For some reason I don’t think anybody has ever accused female Night Elf dances of stereotyping the French. The Christmas theme includes NPCs claiming against the comercialization of Winter’s Veil. All those things are done as jokes, yet they sometimes awaken curiosity about other people’s customs and get people talking.

My own reaction upon seeing the Draenei dances was “OK, if that’s flamenco, it’s done wrong; if it’s something else, I want to know whose.”

JMO, but if it’s done “across the board”, (meaning as many cultures as possible being included in the way they communicate with us), how can that be offensive (if that’s the way you meant that, that is, DOR)?

Since WoW is played in imaginary worlds, and we have no way of knowing their language, then giving them some semblance of “locale-speak” makes sense to me.

In Booty Bay, for instance, I would expect to be called, “Mon”, If a place is named “Loch” Modan, I would expect to be addressed in a Scots accent, etc. etc.

The only other alternative would be for each NPC to speak in a monotone, and how interesting would that be?

On the other hand, if a character is supposed to be dancing a reel or flamenco, I would expect the animators to get that as correct as posible.

Thanks

Quasi

Yeah, I saw that. Spent a lot of time reading this thread, which was part of the reason I signed back up.

So should I just log on and join SDMB and say hi then?
