World of Warcraft General Discussion

I think it has something to do with my “reaction time”, SFG , and maybe also my tendency to get “nervous” when it comes down to losing “health”, because sometimes my eyes “lose” the cursor, and therefore, time!

I don’t know how it is related to my short-term memory loss, but just as sometimes, I will lose my “subject” right in the middle of talking about it, (And when I say “subject”, I don’t mean just my “train of thought”. I mean I have no idea why I am speaking in the first place!) The same thing will happen to me in WoW, and before you know it, I’m clicking in a frenzy without knowing the “strategy” of it.

It’s like that “fight or flight” thing.

I know what each “ability” does, but when Wolkie’s dukin’ it out, Quasi doesn’t always know which “buttons” to push, and that is why, if you look us up in the Armory, our stats look like shit.

Take look at how many times ol’ Wolkie’s been “healed/rezzed”, and then take a look at your own stats.

And therein lies the problem: I am having all kinds of fun playing the game, but at the same time, I would like to be able to “grasp” more of what y’all are trying to tell me (strategy. etc), and I understand and am appreciative, but I just don’t retain it.

I just hope that y’all don’t feel like you’re wasting your time, because if it hadn’t been for y’all and my 2 in-game gurus, aruvqan and Amberale, I’d be playing internet checkers or solitaire rignt now!

I know the old saying is “Get a life, Quasi!”

Well, for better or worse, this is a major part of my life!

Thanks

Quasi

Just wait until you discover the amazingly large range inherent in spousal aggro … in reference to trying to get lots of play time

Depends on situation, most of the time I solo, so I use the arrow keys for movement, and the mouse for targeting and clicking hot keys for fighting.

In a raid, I target with custom macros, and use a combo of mouse and key for attack, and movement.

You know, I have my bottom bar set up so autoattack with main weapon is in 1, then 2,3,4,5 and 6 are the attacks I use pretty much the most, then the bar above it has the 3 that affect ae, and the bar above that is my personal spells [boneshield, and magic shell, and the ghoul attack boost spell] so that when I fight, a lot of the time it is simply a matter of smashing what pops ready, sort of like:

<boneshield>23234 <boiling blood> 23234<boiling blood>23234<loot dead mobs>

Actually a fair amount of discussion I have seen in some forums are literally how to mash buttons to fight, where they tell you to line up and hit the buttons in a specific order … and realistically unless you are raiding, there is not a lot of strategy or tactics. mas the buttons when they pop and remember to chug a healing potion when you get low enough.

Quasimodem, I know you don’t know me but I hope I don’t offend by pointing something out.

You’re missing berserker stance on your warrior. It’s similiar to battle stance and defensive stance but let’s you do more damage at the cost of taking a little more damage. There’s a quest you should have gotten at level 30 that let’s you learn it. I believe the Alliance quest giver is Wu Shen, located in the Pig and Whistle Inn in Stormwind’s Old Town area.

Berserker stance will give you a few more abilities to play with, though it can be a bit tricky to master.

To everyone else, thanks for inviting me to the guild on Cairne, you seem to a fun group. I might transfer my warrior over some time later. He’s 80 and I’ve been playing him off and on since release, though I never did any raiding with him this expansion.

GoblinBoy, don’t ever worry about offending me by pointing stuff out that I could be doing better!

I sent a screen shot of my action bars to Amberale, and he’s gonna send me back an e-mail telling me how to set those things up better. As he says, they’re a “mess”!

I DO have Berserker Stance, but because we just recently switched Wolkie from Battle to Defensive, I am still having trouble getting it all together.

I don’t know how to remove “useless” stuff off the bar and replace it with useFUL stuff. For instance, I had 2 blood rages side by side, but every time I’d click on one, it would send Wolkie into a rage, and I couldn’t get rid of it.

I hate to bother anyone “ingame” to help me do this, because it takes away from THEIR game time, so I’d rather come here to learn or do it via e-mail.

That’s another thing that worries me: Wolkie is a 45, but without a LOT of help, I could not have gotten him there, and to be honest?

A LOT of the stuff we did to level, I am learning AFTER the fact.

I am hoping to just learn as I go, i guess, and then hopefully remember WHAT I did WHEN I did it…

Ass-Backwards, I guess, huh? :smack:

Thanks

I wanted to add that if I could just watch someone playing WoW, and see what y’all are trying to tell me, it might be a little easier for me to understand.

Maybe.

Small correction - Wu Shen has been moved over with the other Warrior Trainers in the Command Center. I was a little confused when my draenei warrior was in SW looking for the Warrior Trainers — the guards still tell you there’s a trainer in the Pig & Whistle, but they’re incorrect/out of date.

To (re)move something from your action bars, click and hold it, while moving your mouse. If you want to move it into another slot, drop it there. If you want to delete it, move it away from any slots and drop it.

Honestly, despite playing WoW for years, I still get confused watching videos of others playing WoW. The screen is too tiny to really get a good look at what they’re doing, so unless they’re narrating everything, it all goes by too fast to be useful.

Not neccesarily watching a video, EC, but having a “tutor” here in the room with me.

Maybe that “Video Professor” guy could make up a new cd.

KIDDING! I’m KIDDING

Also, thanks for the tip, EC. “Fixin’” to get back to the game!

Hun you can always bother me in game with questions =)

If Georgia wasnt so far away Id head over with my trusty laptop and hang out gaming with you for a weekend … :frowning:

Apologies for just jumping into this thread, but I recall seeing someone once asking about a European straight dope guild, but the search is letting me down. Can anyone point me towards the post/thread in question? My guild was recently disbanded and I’m looking a bit further afield.

Hello that was me and we ended up with only 4 dopers playing in the EU, now 5 of course. Not enough yet…

I’m on a roll, Monday my lock dinged 50 and last night my pally hit 57 and is about 70% on his way to 58. After a Sunday night travelling half way across the world (should it be that much work to get a key for Scholomance??) I could be in Outland for the first time next week what do you guys suggest, go there immediately at 58 (which as I understand it is the earliest you can go there) or wait a level or two?

On the one hand, Outland can be frustrating and a little challenging at 58.

On the other hand, Outland quest rewards and XP are incredible.

I’d go for it just to see if it’s to your taste that early. If you find yourself frustrated at how tough the mobs are, you can go back to Azeroth for a couple of levels (or grab a few guildies to help you out in Outland).

Great to have you. BDL has been pretty slow this summer, so it was great to see so many people on last night. Most folks seem to be levelling, but it will be nice when we have enough 80’s to get back to doing heroics/raids together.

sweet jebus yest getting the scholo key is a pain in the rump. If memory serves, you kill the guy in western plaguelands, then take a key fragment from him, then get some metal bars and something else in the AH or from a guildie, run it to um … gadgetzan to get a mold, then to the volcano in ungoro, then back to someone else, then back to gadgetzan then back to the original questgiver … sob I have to do it on my character shortly, as soon as mrAru gets his character out of the baby zones and feels up to doing the stupid quest.

I usually wait until I am 60 to do outlands, makes it a lot more solo survivable.

Note you also have to have your herb and mine skill to 301 to take advantage of the spawns for gathering up there…and I am not certain offhand what your enchanting has to be to DE the green and unusable BOP drops you end up with up there,

And kill the Araj the summoner and all his adds, don’t forget that bit. Actually if you combine it with the other quests for him, killing Araj is worth a boatload of XP.
