World of Warcraft General Discussion

I have a macro that announces in general … Yes I know I am a high level DK and I am in a low level area HOWEVER thanks to Blizzard I have to do all my low level faction quests, and start tradeskills from the beginning, so I have to pick herbs here, and kill low level critters until I finish all the same quests you have to do. I kill the minimum I need to finish my quests.’

when I get nasty whispers I smash it and announce.

When I was going for Diplomat on my Human DK, I was argued with for over an hour in Alterac Mountains by a NElf Druid because I was “griefing” and “why didn’t I just go away?” and “why was I ruining things for her?” and and and…

And meanwhile the arguers could have been done with whatever they were doing by that time.

Isn’t it just amazing that people sign on to on-line games that have as a major feature thousands of other real people on the server, then get all pissy that it’s not their own, private little world?

I admit I have. I’ve gotten pissed off when there’s exactly one area that has the enemies I need to kill, and one or two other people are already clearing the place out. Even if they’re of a level for the quest, it bugged me to no end that I couldn’t do what I needed to. I never bitch at anyone, though, especially now. I just buff them and come back later.

I will admit that there are times when I feel like I wish you COULD play WoW as a single-player game, with interaction only in cities (IOW, a Guild Wars type system (Oh, what I could do with a Guild Wars type system, like where you can hire mercenaries to accompany you, but with the WoW world!)). But those times are rare (and I pretty much play it as a single-player game, anyway…the problem is those darn instances…) and I don’t rant about it in-game.

That bothers me sometimes if it’s an area with a low drop rate or something like that. But I don’t gripe at the people who got there first. That’s just how it works at times. I do complain, however, about people killing quest givers and flight masters. I hate it when people do that. On our server, the Sentinel Hill flight point is regularly visited by Hordies who take great pleasure in killing the flight master over and over. I’m sure there’s a Horde equivalent who gets killed as often (especially considering the fact that the Horde NPC-killers often play Alliance as well, and people like to be pains in the butt no matter what side they play) but I don’t know who it would be due to not playing Horde as often.

Crossroads flightmaster and questgivers get ganked all the time. It’s annoying as hell.

Crossroads

I could have understood if my level 80 had swiped a copper node or something, but this was my level 4 bank alt just putting stuff up for auction. The only explanation I could come up with is that the person mistyped my name or got me confused with someone else.

Great advice this, I have only just worked this out myself. I play alternating between a warlock and a pally and I was finding it very hard to adjust from one night to the next until I made my keys similar, or at least as similar as they can be for a lock and a pally. I mostly use the keys Q, E, R and F with combinations of alt and ctrl, so where my F key is my “ohshit” key for the pally it is:

<none> Divine Shield
<ctrl> Lay On Hands
<alt> Holy Light

and the warlock it is:

<none> Howl of Terror
<ctrl> Death Coil
<alt> Fear

Post of the day!

I really wish they did make quest givers and flight masters unkillable … and crossroads is the horde equivalent to sentinal hill.

Realistically, I don’t see why they didn’t make them unkillable, they are the griefer target of choice on PVE servers. I refuse to lay PVP because you keep getting guys 20 and more levels higher doing nothing but hanging out in low zones killing off the baby players. They dont get honor points for them, and unlike EVE online you cant loot them…sigh

I can see why they didn’t USED to make them unkillable, back when world PVP was the only thing we had (before battlegrounds). But world PVP isn’t a viable large-scale thing anymore (warbear raids notwithstanding) and (at least on PVE servers) it would be really nice to immortalize the townsfolk now.

Agreed this would help out a lot of people.

I can see why they don’t want to make them un-killable - that kind of defeats the verisimilitude of the world if you have immortal flight masters. So what I would do is have a built-in counter or something. Each time a flight master or quest giver is killed there is an increasing chance to proc an event (in my mind it’s that world has reached the capital of a skirmish in an outlying town). If this event is fired then a squad of bad-asses show up and attack any flagged opposite-faction players. You wanna gank quest givers and flight masters? Go for it. But be prepared to defend yourself when Thrall sends in the cavalry.

They sort of do that already. If you attack a flight master, several gryphons/wyverns/whatever is at the FP spawn and fight you alongside the flight master. But since flight masters are generally level 65, this means little to a level 80. Kicking the flight masters up to 80 would be a good start (of course, then we have Cataclysm coming and level 85s…)

Do you undercut? Or put things up at lower than average? It’s possible he was pissed you “ruined” his AH market on some item or another.

Meh, do it anyway. I went back on my Warrior and did every quest in every zone (Loremaster!); I only got barked at a couple times, and just ignored it. It probably helped the character was wearing blue overalls, a lucky fishing hat, and using crappy weapons (skillups), so looked like a fieldworker or fisherman. If you’re worried about attracting attention, you could try “dressing down” - it throws the lowbie complainers off their game.

Oh, and jousting - can’t you be grouped for that and get help? The Tournament really is a great way to raise some rep; 1000 rep per day for the primary when you’re a Valiant, 250 per day spillover to secondaries. Plus, once you’re a Champion, you can select writs as your quest reward and turn them in for 250 rep. An alternative to the Tournament or Runecloth is play defense in AV and do turnins, but that’s a bit slow for anything other than Ironforge.

Don’t forget Hillsbrad. >< So many times my lowbie has had to run from there to get to UC because some trigger happy Alliance 80s decided to come and lay waste to us.

OTOH pvp can be interesting such as when a group of us guildies (two 80s in quest blues + assorted 60s and 70s) got camped by an Uld25-geared DK while trying to take Halaa. (the 70 wanted to do some rep turnins so we were helping her flip the flag)

Let’s just say that I love my CC buttons even more now and will be hieing me to AQ to tame a silithid as a *special *present. A big red silithid coming for your face and spitting poisonous, movement impairing webs…mwahahahah.

OH! Thanks for the pointer re the sproutling **SFG **-- I about had a fit of the glees when I saw one on the neutral AH for 500g less than it usually goes for, and the next one up at the time was actually 1000g more. I has me a lil poiple tree nao. XD

I use auctioneer and undercut a little - like 3%. But I mostly just post random green BoE drops or occasional partial stacks of cloth; I’m not flooding the market on anything.

On another note - I got my Chef’s Hat last night!
