World of Warcraft General Discussion

Is it to the west of the camp, visible as you’re going up or down the mountain? Because you can get to that one. You have to go to the west to the Twilight’s Hammer area, then go up past their little casting circle in the mountain. That’s the only one I’ve seen overlooking the camp that I originally had a hard time getting to, personally.

If you’re above 65 or so, southern Winterspring is the best place for Thorium. No one ever goes there, the mob spawns are far enough apart that you can thread through them, and there are plenty of thorium nodes.

The reason that they’re the weak point in my rotation is that if the frost spells miss I end up spending a lot more time “up close and personal” with the mob.

For some reason, the guide I’m using for my Fire spec didn’t have me put any points in Improved Fireball. I may need to reconsider that. As it stands right now, 1 Pyroblast = 5 seconds and hits before the Frostbolt-slowed mob gets to me; 2 Fireballs = 6 seconds with the mob on top of me before the second one goes off. The main object of my current rotation is to get hit as little as possible, and that seems to be working. I’m killing mobs as quickly as I was before (when I was using mostly Fireballs), and I’m dying less often - in fact I only died once yesterday while using this rotation (and that only because of that rogue I mentioned - he freed a Frost Nova’d raptor just as it “screeched for help”, which meant I suddenly and unexpectedly had two raptors all over me, and Frost Nova still in its cooldown.)

I’ve been having a weird issue that comes and goes and seems to be related to the login servers. I can log in just fine, but if I play a character for a while, and then log that character out and try to switch servers, I click on the “Realm List” button and it says “Connecting…” but can’t seem to connect. At that point I can cancel and log in any of the toons on my current server - I just can’t change servers.

If I log out completely (back to the username/password screen) and log back in, I can now click “Realm List” and select a different server. But then, once I’ve logged in a toon on that server, if I log that toon back out I once again cannot switch servers.

I’ve wondered what game Ctrl+Alt+Del was spoofing when they showed a character at a workbench that has burst into flames. The character yelled, “Fire! Why?! I was doing leatherworking!” Then the character grabbed a water bucket and dumped it on the workbench, except instead of water, more fire poured out of the bucket. “Aaaaah! This isn’t a bucket of water, it’s a bucket of fire! Why does that even exist?!”

I actually couldn’t even make any sense out of how this rogue was working. Instead of killing one mob and then moving on to the next-closest mob, he’d kill one, then mount up and ride halfway across the area, dismount and attack another mob, mount up again and ride over to whack the mob I was working on, mount up and ride clear to the other side of the area, lather rinse repeat.

Because I have two mages - an undead frost mage on Cairne, and the draenei fire mage on Lightbringer. I just didn’t want two basically identical mages.

On another note, my level 80 paladin visited the Exodar yesterday, and by virtue of a Wool turn-in, a Mageweave turn-in, and a Runecloth turn-in (why no Silk turn-in? I don’t know), she is now Ambassador Eilyssana

:o Blizzard designers are jerks! I’ll have to tell my husband this, that he “failed” on his mission. It’s the one on the west border of the camp as you ride in from the outside and just as you turn east into the main camp, it’s over your left shoulder, perched atop the cliff to taunt you with its thoriumy goodness.

On a happier note, that got me thinking about exploration, and I remembered visiting the Shatterspear troll village. I was kind of sad, figuring that Cataclysm would destroy it, but no! According to that link it’s opened to the outside world by the disruption.

Yup, I’ve mined that one several times, including yesterday with my DK.

I was just there yesterday with my lvl 59 DK. Unfortunately, the mobs there are all lvl 65 elites. And the nodes I could find were all Rich Thorium nodes, which require Mining skill 275, and I’m only at 265. So I needs me some regular thorium nodes.

You could also try leveling as Arcane. I understand that’s pretty viable too. Low-level Arcane talents can kill the pushback on Arcane Missiles, raise your armor by 150% of your Intellect, improves your Mana Shield, and so on.

Fire is very much a glass cannon approach. It doesn’t have anything in the way of survivability the way Frost and Arcane do, so it’s going to be tougher to use for soloing.

I might redo my mage as Arcane, come to think of it. Maybe get him up to 20 or so first, so the respec doesn’t feel quite as wasted. (I am not re-leveling another character so soon, even though the first 15 levels only take a few hours. Sick of it, sick, sick!)

Frost is the spec for keeping mobs at a distance by slowing/rooting them. Fire is the spec for keeping mobs at a distance by burning them down before they can hit you more than once or twice. I know you’re looking for a different experience from your Frost Mage, but you might want to look into a different rotation, getting more +SP gear, etc.

I’ve had that same problem on and off (although in my case, AFAIK once I go back to the main login screen, that clears the problem completely, and I’m able to switch servers without having to log out and in again). Because I found the same workaround you did, though, it hasn’t been anything more than a tiny hassle, so I can’t offer you any solutions, just a “the same thing happens to me.”

WTB a link to that post. Just the description was hilarious.

Woohoo, grats! I bet you never want to look at another starting zone quest or stack of Runecloth again.

Boom.

(Yes, I am procrastinating from work. :()

Thanks, Bosstone!

@MisterRik: Well, given that the comic explicitly mentions Vanguard, I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that it was spoofing… Vanguard.

  1. SFG, since the question was asked here, I’ll not answer the way I’d like to if asked elsewhere, but judging from how I’m playing WoW these days, I’d say:smack::o;).

  2. About the vacation: As it turns out, one of the family needs to come back early due to her job, so I will be riding back with her on Wednesday. So 5 days instead of 7 away from the game.

  3. D has been wonderful about me playing so much, and even takes an interest (well, minus the swearing, of course) in Wolkie and his progress!

But I DO understand about spending more time and building my “rep” with her!

  1. So if I understand correctly, the more time I spend away from the game, the higher the XP points per kill when I return?

Thanks

Quasi

My toon, Quasimodem, needs fixin’ and he’s only got 22 coppers in his bag, so I’m afraid we’ll have to sit this one out, sorry! :frowning:

Thanks, though

Q

I can kite you some coinage =) not a problem.

What level is (in-game) Quasimodem? BRD is for lvl 50-60, I think, so you may not be able to do it anyway.

Schweeeeet, a! And we will, of course, gladly pay you back (“Next Tuesday for some coinage today!”;))

Swear to God, I don’t know what I’d do without mah kids!

We need a “heart” smiley, bad!

(I’d use that thing so much it’d make y’all puke!;))

Thanks a (and everyone), but is Quasi a high enough level to do a dungeon run?

Quasi

Posted before I saw my bud jayjay’s post, but yeah, the toon is only a 2, IIRC…

Maybe we can do some groups another time?

Thanks

After sitting out of Uld10 last night to let some of our newer folks get experience and gear, tonight it looks like I’m going to be stuck **leading **the raid, since our GM allegedly has a date. They cleared through Hodir last night, so on the agenda for tonight are Freya, Thorim, and Mimiron… wish me luck. (We’ve killed Freya before, but haven’t even attempted those other two Keepers. Ulp.)

Sort of. The longer you spend away from the game, the longer more bonus XP you have available to earn. When your char is Rested, all kills give them a flat 2x XP. The variable is how long they can keep killing at that bonus rate. (So, one mob’s worth, versus 100 mobs’ worth.)

Let’s say that you have 1,000 rested XP, and you’re killing mobs worth 100 XP. The next 10 mobs you kill will grant you 200 XP (1,000 rested XP divided by 100 XP per mob equals 10 mobs where you’ll get twice as much).

Quasi’s main is only 40-something; I’m guessing his new character on Cairne isn’t anywhere near high enough for BRD.

Good luck! Freya might be my favorite fight in the game right now (although our three attempts so far at Twin Val’kyr have been fun too… I’m not sure I’ve been much happier in WoW then when we finally killed those damn Faction Champions).

Thorim ain’t so bad as long as you have a good tank in the arena and DPS that will kill the right adds first (and as I’m sure you know throwing up a Nature Resist - Aspect of the Wild or Shaman Totem - will help a ton).

And Mimiron, well he just makes me cry. Any fight that requires everybody to pay attention or get one-shot always leads to sadness and frustration when we wipe for the 10th time because a healer ate a laser barrage or a rocket strike.

Now that we can extend raid lockouts I think we’re gonna start keeping our Ulduar open and hopefully finally kill Yogg (just not enough hours in a week for such a long raid - at least not for a semi-casual raid guild). We really need to try some of the easier hard-modes too - I have no doubt we can do Flame Leviathan and probably XT.

That’s right, Baby-Girl. I haven’t played the Horde as much as the Alliance warrior, so I can’t do BRD with y’all yet. But I’ll get there.

Understood about the XP, as well. I have noticed that after a night of not playing, when I do come back, instead of the 300 (and something) XP, I get like 600 (and something) XP. First time I saw that I liked to have shit, because I thought I would level faster, but then the kill XP started dropping off.

I am currently in Tanaris and headed to Gaping Chasm. Me and the “Wolk” seem to be having our best luck there, grinding on those level 48’s and 50’s insects.

Only thing is, you have to also watch and kill them little parasites/minions, dontcha?

Also, thanks for the offer, a! Me and ol’ Q will just have to be careful not to get ALL redded out! We’re certainly NOT gonna stand at a mailbox and beg!

When someone asks me, I always send them a gold or two, but I never want to be in that position myself, if I can help it.

But a loan is a “loan” to me, and ALWAYS paid back (with “interest” and “forward-pay”!:))

Thanks, y’all!

Quasi

Oh, and SFG?

Wolkie’s 47 and closing in on 48!

Quasi, you’re not near ready for Blackrock Depths yet, but when your character gets up to 14 or 15, give us a shout in the guild and I’m sure someone will be happy to run you through Ragefire Chasm… I know I would.

Will do, Skammer and THANKS!

Y’all are AWESOME!

Thanks.
