World of Warcraft General Discussion

Congrats Tel! It’s not THAT ugly.
Quasi. Glad you finally found your way into the Hinterlands. Sorry my instructions didn’t help.

Book mark this link http://mapwow.com/ and use it for any future travel references. On the right side of the page there are some check boxes that you can enable that will show the zones, towns, flight paths, etc. You can manuver on the map by dragging it around and zoom in by double clicking (or use the zoom in & out tool in the top left).
SFG. How was your raid last night? Did you guys down any new bosses?

Hey - I like the Tabard of the Explorer. My main wears his all the time.

And when I come back…

…I bring pie!

I’ve always loved the name of that folder.

It’s pretty cool that they keep things so localized. When you set up WoW on a new computer, just copy the WTF and addons folders from the old computer to the new one, and Bob’s yer uncle.

ETA: Forgot to actually reply to this. :smack:

Those are hideous, aren’t they? If they’re anything like the plate ones, they probably aren’t your best gear options. Sure, they’re 213 purples, but at least for the plate, all they have on them is Stamina, Frost Resist, and a couple of gem slots. You can probably find a lot better just from Heroic dungeons. (Especially try to get into Heroic ToC–219 purples, same as you get out of Uld10.) Not to mention, if you grind heroics, you can buy ilvl 226 badge gear (same as KT, Maly, and Uld25), including two pieces of your T8.5 set.

These aren’t normal boxes–these are specifically special mailboxes in an instance called Stratholme. They don’t work like mailboxes out in the world–you need keys to open them, and they spawn enemies instead of letting you send mail out.

Seven or eight Freya wipes. Probably at least half the group had never been there before, we were very heavy on melee (one, singular, ranged DPS), and 2/3 of our healers were classes best for healing tanks vs. raid and were less experienced and geared than the healers we had with us when we downed her before. We’d have some waves that went like clockwork, and then some where people just couldn’t switch targets fast enough, get to the Eonar’s Gift in time, etc. I think we would have gotten it in another attempt or two, but trash was respawning and it was getting late.

I rarely play on Cairne because I rarely play Horde because…I hate the Horde cities. Every time I start a Horde character, I tend to abandon them mostly for this reason.

But I miss playing with the BDL. Is there any use for a 60ish DK? Maybe as a utility player to help with some dungeon runs or whatnot? Are there any professions that are under-represented in the guild that would be handy for my Cairne DK to pick up?

I’m always amused by how much people opinions of the capitals differ. Personally, although my main and most of my alts are Alliance, UC is my favorite capital, 'cause it’s so compact. SW, Darn, SM, and Org are all too sprawling for my taste. IF isn’t bad, but it’s still more spread out than UC.

Oh I agree, they’re not the best I could get, but they’re the best at the moment that I have access to. I’ve only done 4 heroics with her, total, starting late last month. I finally got the Superior achievement on Monday when I handed in the Nobles Deck at Darkmoon Faire for the Greatness deck trinket (Agi version). So yeah, I know I have work to do. I think the Polar ugliness is to punish people who don’t go out there to get better.

(The problem is, I am one of The Healers for the guild, and we’re at a big healer deficit, so typically my healer is the one to get playtime. I only get a break when I start talking about stuff like “I hate healing with the fires of a thousand suns” and such. I reserve “I’d rather take up cutting” for stuff like running Oculus or PvPing.)

I feel your pain on the hideousness that is FR gear–I always cry when I’m the one tanking Hodir and I’m stuck in all three pieces.

Did you know that the drakes in Occ improve with gear now, the same way as the vehicles on FL? They buffed it at the same time they made that chage for the Maly ph3 drakes. Heroic Occ is much less painful now.

Right now, there are a lot of levelling toons in BDL who I’m sure could use help. We also have our Wednesday night runs, which will be hitting level 60 content in not too long (and you’d always be welcome to fill out the group if we had trouble getting five level-appropriate members).

As for professions - I know we’ve got tailoring, blacksmithing, alchemy, enchanting and inscription covered. Jewelcrafting too, with Jarryn back. I don’t know for sure but we may be light on leatherworking (which doesn’t make much sense for a DK) or engineering. But do what you like; it doesn’t hurt to have two of anything.

Let’s see. Italics mean text on screen, underline is something you type.

1.- Grid doesn’t come up in the general list of addons. To open its configuration type /grid config

2.- First of all, grid must be enabled for it to show. You can enable and disable it from the “top line” of its menu, or using /grid standby

3.- Click on + Frame. Center text length is how many letters of people’s names appear in each square. The default is 4, which I find works well. In the time I’ve been using Grid we’ve had two characters with the same first 4 letters in a raid only once (and yeah, sadly they were both pinkies).

4.- Click on the + of + Frame. The line becomes - Frame and you get a bunch more options. All those are locations within and around each square that you can use for information; play a bit with them to see how it’s most expressive for you. You can, for example, get the central text on a square to change to DEAD when, you guessed it, someone is slightly deceased; you could also make Grid show an icon instead.

5.- + Layout lets you set how many squares do you want to see and how you want them organized. In a raid I’m never going to be healing pets; in a party, I may (although humanoids always have priority), so for raids I choose layouts without pets but for party I use “by group with pets.” You can organize people by group or by class; I prefer by group because some of my spells affect a group (Prayer of Healing) so by group I can see more easily who will be affected or which group should get that spell.

3 and 4 should keep you entertained tweaking them for a while, I think it’s better if you don’t bother with +Status straight away.

Go on http://www.wow-heroes.com/. Click on the “GUILD” tab and enter our Zone, Realm and Guild names, and then click search. From there, click on the “Crafters” tab to find out who is crafting what and at what level…it also helps to get an idea who to hit up to help with certain items to make, enchants, etc.

NP =) a dk damn near has a license to mint gold pieces …

Wow. That’s pretty badass.

Hooray, I only need 8 more Dalaran Cooking Awards and I can get my Chef’s Hat!

Speaking of which — I don’t recall who it was who was looking for white pants to complete a chef’s outfit, but as real-life chef I thought I’d point out that we typically wear dark pants with our chef’s jackets. Where I work we wear black or dark blue trousers; other places go with gray or the traditional “hound’s tooth” trousers. Or maybe pinstripes.

White pants are for butchers and bakers.

Thanks - I just made the Spidersilk Cloak, the Phoenix Pants and Phoenix gloves for my mage  (the cloak needed 6 Spider’s Silk … I had 4 in my guild bank and there were exactly 2 on the AH). Here’s my mage’s Armory page, though it doesn’t show the new gear yet.

I never did figure out if there’s a chance of getting good loot out of the boxes themselves, or if you only get it from the mailman spawns. All I found in those mailboxes was pointless letters.

I like mine! I just wish there was an Ambassador tabard :frowning:

I just did Strat today (went in with 80 empty bag slots and filled them by the time I’d cleared the undead side). I got nothing from the first two mailboxes, and the summoned postmen couldn’t be looted. I got a worthless package in the 3rd mailbox, the summoned postmen couldn’t be looted again, but there were a couple of decent drops on the postmaster boss.

Overall, a good run. Just on the half I got cleared, which took a couple of hours, I probably made 250 gold, not counting the 12 stacks of runecloth.

ETA: The reason it took so long was I was on a slow connection (satellite Internet), so I had latency of 1,600ms. There were pulls where it took me longer to loot the mobs than it did to kill them!

Great! If you get the addon called “Iron Chef”, it will automatically equip your Chef’s Hat when you open your cooking window. It will also change your title to “Chef” if you have the title.

That’s good to know! There are several dark pants to choose from. I may just go with tuxedo pants, in that case.

Had a funny thing happen to me yesterday afternoon.

I was riding my BE paladin, Kalathan, around Howling Fjord to pick up the last couple of areas I needed for the “Explore the Fjord” achievement. Once I’d done that, I headed for the nearest Horde flight point, which happened to be the one in the Apothecary Camp in the NW corner of the zone.

To get there, I took a shortcut through the corner of the Vyrkuhl village of Skorn in the center of the zone. I aggro’d one or two of the Vyrkuhl, but at the speed I was riding I easily outran them. I did notice that one of them did manage to “Throw Axe”, but I didn’t worry about it.

Made it to the Apothecary camp without a problem, and hopped a bat to fly to Kamagua in the southern part of the zone. I landed at Kamagua, hit a vendor to sell a little junk and repair my armor, and finally rode over to the dock to see about catching the “turtle boat” to Moa’ki harbor.

About a minute after I arrived at the dock itself, a giant axe flew into me and hit me for 200 points of damage. The silly thing must have been tracking me all over Howling Fjord.

That axe was really out to get you, Runestar.

I went to Trial of the Champion with some guildies last night. It was the first time I’d been there. I couldn’t use any of the drops, but I got a few shards and emblems. I have been reluctant to try PUGs but I think I’m going to have to; sometimes there just aren’t enough people available in the guild to group with me.

Those Vyrkuhl have quite an arm, and aim!

That’s awesome. Reminds me of the Dum-Dum bullets in Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Raid last night was pretty productive! Freya went down on the first attempt this time (better group balance and a few more experienced people), our first-ever Thorim kill only took three tries (first try = hallway wipe 'cause the RL only sent one DPS with me, second try = cleared gauntlet but wiped on Thorim himself 'cause there were too many Arena adds up and the RL couldn’t trade tanking when I got crittable, third try = full of win), and we even had time for a couple of Mimiron attempts (got as far as phase 3, but it was getting late).

We’re debating extending our raid lockout. The early bosses are on farm, and people don’t really need a lot of gear from them. IMO, however, we still need as much experience as we can get with Hodir, Freya, and Thorim–we’ve no more than three kill of each–and we still need the gear, especially the tier pieces. On one hand, we could end up with more progression. On the other, we could lose out on several bosses’ worth of gear that could help us progress more the next week. Argh.

Now, I just need to buckle down and finish my Loremaster and 3,000 Quest achievements this weekend…

IIRC, the mailboxes themselves only drop vendor trash.

That’s awesome.
