Beware those drakes in Storm Peaks, then - a guildie of mine was flying through there on his flying mount, annoyed one who breathed at him, and after he landed at the Argent Tournament, the breath finally caught up with him and smacked him!
-
“Deserter Agitator” wants me to have a drink with him everytime in in the harbor. Whassupwiddat, and should I do this?
-
Also, at the top of the screeen, while this dialogue appears to me in yellow are the words 12/12 marksmen remaining (or words similar - I’m not at my gaming computer right now). Is this part of a quest I seem to be ignoring?
-
Can I buy quest items in the AH?
-
And lastly ( I contacted WoW tech support but was just wondering about this message which appears when I try to play the game on another computer), see what y’all make of this message?
The patch file being installed, “patch-2.MPQ,” will be ignored by the game because “patch.MPQ” does not exist.
The patch file being installed, “patch-enUS-2.MPQ,” will be ignored by the game because “patch-enUS.MPQ” does not exist.
Thanks

Where do I go (Horde) to turn off XP? I’m levelling with a friend, but just picked up the Level 50 pally quest chain that requires me to grind out 20 scourgestones. That’s gonna be a bunch of kills, and I don’t want to outlevel my friend while I’m doing it (we’re not doing it together). I’m already two levels ahead of him, so I want to slow it down a bit. And how much does it cost?
Actually, he’s talking to the other NPCs. The story in Theramore is that a real racist human Admiral tried to kill Horde leaders, and the Horde killed him and left his daughter in control of Theramore. She tries to govern peacefully, but some soldiers are still bitter.
It is part of a quest, but it’s a pretty big quest; I think you’ll know when you need to be paying attention. It affects Theramore as a whole, so if someone else is doing the quest you’ll see it.
Some quest items you can buy in the AH, but they’re rare. Most are soulbound, which means they can’t be sold to other players, and the few that aren’t are typically not farmed for sale. You’re usually better off collecting quest items yourself.
You’re definitely better off talking to tech support about this problem, but I think if you can play WoW it’s not a big deal. Don’t take my word for it, though.
I believe it is near the Battlemaster in Orgrimmar. The patch notes indicate it is a character named Slahtz.
ETA: It costs 10g.
Thanks, Bosstone!

As mentioned, these NPCs are part of a Theramore quest chain where you help discredit the rabble-rousers.
Another Theramore quest chain. You’ll see the #/12 Marksmen Remaining alert whether or not you’re on the quest.
Some you can, but most you can’t.
Sounds like a problem with corrupt or missing data. That, or it’s one of those “the indicator light itself is broken” problems–nothing’s wrong, but an error is being triggered, anyway.
The NPCs are Bestin for Alliance and Slahtz for Horde (get it? “best in slots,” because XP turnoff is designed for twinks). Both are located in the same room as the Battlemaster, in SW for Alliance and Org for Horde. They are both stealthed (translucent) and wearing typical 19 twink Rogue gear. It’s 10g to turn XP off and 10g to turn it back on again.
Why not just take a break from leveling the character for a while, to give your friend a chance to catch up? You could work on leveling a profession, if those aren’t maxed out for your current level (including First Aid, Fishing, and Cooking), or you could go do starter-zone quests for another race to get rep and work toward your Ambassador title. I offer this suggestion because there’s no way to get back the XP you’re immune from after you turn it back on, and once you’ve done a quest, you can never do it again. If you wait, you can do all of these quests with your friend, as opposed to being potentially stuck with few options for leveling but grinding instances.
I think Skammer wanted to turn it off while he was collecting Scourgestones - sounded like a pretty temporary thing. Although it is a good suggestion to make sure to turn it back on before you turn in any quests if you’re hoping to ever get the XP for those quests.
Also, another pretty good way to get non-quest XP now is through Alterac Valley (if you’re high enough level for it). The other BGs seem to be pretty slow but I was able to get about 10% of a level for one AV run (if we won, which we pretty much always did, and often quickly) for my DK between Levels 65 and 68. XP for capping towers, graveyards, killing the bosses, etc. Of course if you hate BGs in general or Alterac Valley in particular then its not very helpful.
I tried this on my Druid during a slow period in his 30s. I got a whopping half a level of XP for a single Arathi Basin game. While I did surprisingly well in that match, especially for being level 34 (I attribute it to not having to fight the twinks), I’m not sure I could do that as a regular thing for leveling. On a certain level I prefer the relative mindlessness of questing and the ease of the AI; it’s what helps me relax while playing. In PVP, you need to be “on” for the entire length of the match. It’s fun, but it’s entirely competitive, and too much of that gets stressful for me after a while.
Actually, grinding instances is exactly what this toon was created for. Since level 20, my buddy and I have been levelling only through instances (and related quests). Somehow, though, I got a few levels ahead of him (I think I had a few more instance quests than he did). We’re both over 50 now; he’s doing the level 50 priest quest chain (Blood of Morphaz) and I’m doing the pally one. If I turn off my xp for this chain and he leaves his on, he should nearly catch up to me by the time we go back to the instance running.
I levelled my DK (my 4th level 80, yeah I’m a big loser :D) from around 72 to 80 just running AV. I did a few quests here and there just to break it up a bit.
The XP was insane. 18k for each tower and 24k for an AV win. And since I was running AV, I generated enough honor to be able to get a couple of epic PvP armor items.
Yeah, this is my plan too (just hit 70 - it seemed those last few 60s levels went faster just questing in NR than using BG). I’m just gonna constantly be queued up for AV and do quests while waiting (at least until I get sick of it). The only downside is not having as good of gear when I hit 80 but I’m gonna be having guildies running me through heroics to get my tanking skills up so badge gear (and PvP gear) should get me geared up pretty damn quick. Having a main that can fund the crafted items needed for that starting tanking set will help too.
I purposely like to throw Old Spices and Baby Spices at toons leaving Krause’s Landing in Dalaran so the vials follow them to wherever they’re going. Pretty harmless, but probably gets a “WTF?” from the other party when it hits minutes later.
Well, that’s all good then! It just becomes a question if you care enough to want to do the quests to pay the 20g for off/on. (Not that 20g is that much, especially if you’ve got an 80 on that server.)
Thank you!
I will give that a try tonight when I get home.
I’ve started keeping pets listed for 10mans as well as instances. Got a kill in VoA because I was able to keep the hunter’s pet up for that extra hit until my taunt CD was up. Sloppy, but a kill is a kill. Flashbacks to Brut kills though, except now I was the one playing bubble tank.
I’ve managed to run a couple of non-heroics using a hunter pet as a tank, I don’t think I could keep it through a heroic, at least with my current clown suit alt gear.
I use group as well. While I don’t have any group spells whatsoever, it’s so much easier being able to talk about things by group instead of rattling off five names. (groups 1,3,5,7 left, groups 2,4,6,8 right, groups seven and eight are whelp groups (oops :D))
Went with some guildies to VoA last night, on the condition that we not even try for Achievements because those mean more deaths and I was so not in the mood for BS.
Turns out I needn’t have bothered with that condition.
So, I’m a PvP hater. Allergic, even. “Would rather take up cutting” as I said on the previous page of posts. So as such, I don’t pay attention to when the next Wintergrasp battle is. This will be an important fact later.
Our two tanks? Two talkative teenage boys, playing DKs, who think they’re better tanks than they really are. Oh, they’re decent, I’ll give them that, but DK tanking was nerfed and they are unwilling to give up the dream. So they yap yap yap yap constantly, even during fights when I’m trying to heal and pay attention to what’s going on, and in the stream of yap yap yap I can’t tell if what they’re saying is urgent or not, and no one else can get a word in edgewise. One of the other players tells them to STFU for a bit, and it works for a while.
We start on the new boss, who I sure haven’t gone against. Delay while they yapyapyap the strat over Ventrilo. We try, we die. Try again, die again. One of the tanks is, again, standing in the fire on the ground which along with his big meteor attack, gets one of them killed, and then the whole raid starts coming apart. My husband (another healer) says on Vent how much he likes the Deadly Boss Mods audio warning* for when you’re standing in the fire, and one of the tanks says 'oh, I guess I should turn on game audio then." :smack: YES you damned well should.
I think we wiped twice more (tanks not moving in time on flames, and being a bit more fragile than the job called for), and as we’re going to run back in, we get the alert that the instance is about to reset. Someone asks in Vent why that is.
Well, that’s because the Wintergrasp battle is about to start! Remember how I said I earlier that I pay no attention to such things? Well apparently, neither did our raid leaders, because it took them by surprise too.
So because we started with the new boss, no one got any loot - we knew the older bosses and could have dealt with them both in that time - and we all got big repair bills and grumpiness.
- Ever done Karazhan, the Opera encounter, with the Big Bad Wolf? For VoA’s new boss, when you’re standing in the fires on the ground, you get a text warning and hear the BBW’s sound clip of “Run away, little girl, run away!”
… and trying to turn in the quest “Assist Arch-Druid Straghelm”, and I’m standing in the pool within ONE YARD of where he SHOULD be, and there’s a green DOWN arrow!
What do I do here, y’all?
(trying my best to level to 50 before leaving for vacation at 6 in the am, so please help if y’all can. I’m only at 4% right now!:()
Thanks
Quasi
He’s upstairs, Quasi. Go up the stairs in the tree you’re in. You’ll come to a second floor. Go out the door on that level and go up the ramp outside the tree. Staghelm’s in the room at the top of the tree.
First rule of night elf areas: If you can’t find the quest guy, look up in the trees or down in the tunnels.
Gained exactly ONE percentage point (to 5%), and accepted a quest sending me to the Ul’ Goro Crater, one very mean sonofabitchin’ place! Tried to get some sticky tar there from some level 50’s-52’s, and WHEW, kiddos, that’s a tough quest!
Any suggies ('Suggestions") for Wolkie me and Silka?
I liked Aerie Peak, but pretty much cleaned things out there.
Thanks again, jayjay!
And also SFG!
You and “da kids” are the BEST!
