World of Warcraft General Discussion

… with being critical of Wolkie’s skills! We know we’re a mess!

Q

Would it be safe to say my first priority during Brewfest is getting my Brew of the Month Club application in?

That’s what I’m aiming for. On the upside, you get the achievement for just signing up, rather than getting it at the end of the year, which is how it used to be and apparently that caused enough upset that Blizzard changed it.

If you want to maximize the achievements, I suggest that first you want to save up 250 tokens to buy the Brewfest outfit (hat, chestpiece, and shoes) to do “Disturbing the Peace” by dancing drunk in Dalaran while wearing them. Then go back to the vendor and return the clothes, and then use the tokens to get your Brew of the Month, pet, or whatever else you want.

Of course if you’re not obsessed with the achievements, it doesn’t matter.

ETA: I think you have an hour (maybe two?) to return the items to the vendor for a refund. Ideally I’d like to earn enough tokens to be able to buy the clothes back before the event ends, but I’d rather have BotM and the pet first.

Well, no. The clothing required for the Disturbing the Peace achievement costs 350 tokens, but can be returned. The membership costs 200 tokens but is non-refundable. So if you don’t care about keeping the clothes, but do care about getting the meta-achievement, you should save up 350, buy the clothes, dance in Dal, sell the clothes, and buy the membership.

At least, that’s my plan

ETA: What Skammer said, except the total cost for the clothes is 350, not 250.

It is? Drat, I thought I’d have enough by tomorrow, but it’ll take at least a few more days now.

The reason I was asking was that I’m thinking that if I don’t join BotM this year, I’ll have to wait until next year, and then it’ll be another year before I could drink all the brews. But you’re saying I just have to sign up, not actually drink all the listed brews? That’s dumb.

But yeah, I like to keep the clothes.

There are two related achievements: one to sign up for BotM, and one to drink them all. Only the first one counts toward the meta-achievement.

… or has it suddenly become hard to get into the “WORLD?”

Thanks

Today was a patch day. This always means extra load on the servers and, usually, something wrong in the patch that wasn’t discovered until it hit the full stress test of live servers. So expect things to not run terribly well today, and possibly even a little farther into the week to boot.

Wolken likes his milk, I see!

Does anyone else find themselves trying to mouse over the hotkeys when looking at a UI screenshot trying to see what they all do? I can’t be the only one.

Quasi, do you know how to remove abilities from your hotkeys? Put your cursor on the hotkey, hold down the left mouse button and drag it off your bar, then let go of the left mouse button and it should disappear. You’ve got a lot of duplicate abilities now and you want your most commonly used ones easily accessible.

Warriors don’t drink milk! Alcohol is fine though. Seriously, you don’t need to keep any drinks on you at all if you want to save space in your bags. Warriors don’t gain any benefit from it. Also, you can clean off your right side hotkeys of the milk and melon juice.

Speaking of bag space, it looks like you still have a four slot bag. If you’ve figured out how the auctioneers work, you can easily get better bags for not much gold. They’re located under containers > bags in the auction house screen. The 20 slot bags are going for about 50 gold each on Blackhand, but you can get 16 slot bags for about 10 gold, I think. Bags are usually one of the better uses of your gold since they let you carry more and make more gold.

As a level 40 plus warrior with most of his talent points in protection, you should be using Devastate, Revenge, and Shield Slam as your abilities I believe. I say should as a suggestion of course, I’m not trying to dictate what you do. There’s other abilities availible to play with too. Heroic strike, thunder clap and shield block can be mixed in there as well.

You also are still missing beserker stance. You should have three abilities where you have the hotkeys for defensive stance and battle stance. You need to see your trainers in Stormwind to get the quest The Islander. It will lead you out to Ratchet on Kalimdor to an island where you fight in a ring of death against other warriors till your the last warrior standing. It’s a pretty neat quest, if a little confusing at times. Doing it will open up a number of new abilities for you.

I hope this helps. I’ve been playing a warrior for a while, but I’ve been maxxed level for so long I’m not sure I’m up to date on all the changes for leveling up anymore.

I didn’t know that about the milk/melon juice.

It’s just that I play Wolkie as a real person, so I like to keep him nourished, and well… loved… so that is why I keep sending him back to Heather at the Sentinel Hill Inn.

She doesn’t have a lot to say to to him, but I think they have a “thang” seeing as he’s always bowing, kneeling and kissing and stuff!

“Berserker STANCE”? Is that one of those “timed-quests”, Gb? One one of those “platforms”? I think I had it once and abandoned it, because I couldn’t meet the time requirement or got Wolkie’s
ass kicked, I don’t remember now. I will check again with my trainer in SW.

Re: bags. I have something like 30 + empty slots. Do I need more bags? I have a mule who takes the good “drops” to AH and we’re real successful making gold there, but if more bags will get me better “drops”, of course I’ll buy them. I also have a bunch of stuff in the bank tjhat I probably need to sell.:smack:

So let me go clean up the action bars. I still don’t know what I am doing wrong with the “Thrown” skill. I have the darts, and I have TRIED to do as everyone says about moving the skill from GENERAL to the action bar, but we still cannot throw them, and I am wondering if I should choose “Battle Stance” to do that, so I will try that when I log on again.

Thank you. I appreciate your suggestions and time!

Quasi

Is THIS any better?

Hi Quasi

Goblinboy is absolutely right about the milk you really do not need any of those.

To throwing - your throwing ability is on your action bars twice so that’s redundant. Try this - go somewhere where the mobs are going to be easy for you to kill. Now click a mob while being far enough away that it doesn’t immediately attack you. Look at your top action bar - the button 4 in from the right which has a dagger on it (looks like this Ability_Throw) is your throw ability. If you’re close enough to the mob for you to throw a weapon this action will be enabled, that is the button will look clear and not greyed (redded??) out. If you’re out of range move closer until the action is usable. As soon as it is, and with the target selected, click on this action button and you should throw a weapon.

Is this clear?

It is better that you don’t have any drinks but you’ve also removed your throw ability from the top bar!

Yes, you get the quest at level 30, if the warrior trainer doesn’t have it you going to have to go to Klannoc Macleod in the Barrens, it’s kind of important that you get it since right now you’re missing several warrior abilities.
Now that you are level 50 the quest should be easy.

Once again, stance has nothing to do with it.
What happens when you try to use it? In the first screenshot you linked I can see the Throw ability in two slots, but you’ve removed it in the second screenshot.
Could you get a screenshot where you mouse over the ability and the error message you get when you try to use it?

Second edit: Typo, damnit, typo.

Quasi, do you have the darts equipped?

First raid with the new guild! With the new patch, we decided to go for Ony25 and ToC25 instead of Ulduar. One-shot Ony, got through all of ToC without much trouble, and then headed over for some FL hard-mode (all four towers). In a classic display of first-night luck, I managed to crash just as we pulled FL on the third attempt and log back in right after we killed him, missing out on the achievement. :smack:

I gotta admit, last night was pretty much one big OHSHITOHSHITOHSHIT. Going from a guild running 10-man content with a lot of casual raiders to the server’s top raiding guild running 25-mans that they’re all experienced with and I’ve never even seen… is a little bit stressful.

Quasi! I took a look at Wolkie’s Armory page. Here are my suggestions to you.

For your glyphs (two major, two minor):

Major: Glyph of Blocking; Glyph of Devastate
Minor: Glyph of Battle **or **Glyph of Command; Glyph of Bloodrage

One major will give you a bonus to your shield block value after you use Shield Slam. This will temporarily increase the amount of damage you can block and give your Shield Slam more damage. The other one causes your Devastate ability to apply two stacks of Sunder Armor, so you get to maximum damage faster.

Someone else had recommended Glyph of Revenge, but I’m going to advise against that for you. Its usefulness would depend on using Heroic Strike immediately after Revenge, and I don’t want to put you in the position of having to remember to do that to get the benefit out of the glyph.

For your first minor glyph, pick whichever shout you use more often. Battle is for making yourself do more damage, and Commanding is for giving yourself more health. (Remember, you can only use one at a time. If you cast the other shout, you’ll lose the benefits of the first one.) The second minor glyph is one that makes Bloodrage free (you will no longer take damage when you use it).

For your spec:

Level 50: Dragonflight Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft
Level 60: Dragonflight Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft
Level 70: Dragonflight Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft
Level 80: Dragonflight Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft

Fellow Prot Warriors will notice that these specs are a little atypical. Because of your “condition” I focused on giving you more passive abilities and fewer active ones. That way, you get the benefits without having another icon to add onto your bars and keep track of using.

Right now, you should be focusing on using Shield Slam, Revenge, Devastate, and Thunder Clap to attack enemies.

1.) If possible, Charge to the mob you want to attack. This will stun it for a second and give you some Rage to start with. Obviously, this won’t be a good idea if there are a lot of other mobs nearby.
2.) Thunder Clap first. This will lower the enemy’s attack speed, so it does less damage to you.
3.) Whenever possible, Shield Slam > Revenge > Devastate. That is to say, do Shield Slam first, then when that’s on cooldown use Revenge if it’s lit up, then if both of those are on cooldown (or if Revenge isn’t lit up), use Devastate.
4.) The trick to Revenge is that it’s a high-damage ability for a low Rage cost (that, for you, will also have a chance to stun your opponent), but it can only be used after you Block, Dodge, or Parry. So even if you have enough Rage to use it, it won’t always be available (lit up).

If you have a lot of extra Rage, you can also hit Heroic Strike. There are a lot of other tricks in the Warrior toolbox, but these are the ones you really want to focus on for killing enemies.

Weird. I could have sworn that you failed the quest if you didn’t get back in time, even if you had all the barks. Either I’m crazy, or it was that way in 2007 or 2008 and they changed it for this year, and I never noticed 'cause I kept doing it the old way.

Oh man, I have had that quest eat my face so bad.

It’s not just wands–it’s **any **ranged weapon. I’d be thrilled if they did away with that stupid cooldown, too. I use my bow for pulling a lot when I’m in my DPS spec, since I lose my two major ways of in-combat pulling due to either stance (Taunt) or spec (Warbringer).

It’s a personal crusade against you. Sorry, we thought it would be funny.

Yup, fall damage scales (AFAIK directly, such that a fall of X meters will always damage a character Y%.) Which, IMO, is one of the most deeply retarded mechanics in the game. I have a thousand times as much HP and armor (only slight hyperbole) as a level one, but we take exactly the same percentage of damage when we fall. You’d think picking up 79 levels would give me some more wiggle room.

See also: jumping. I can take a 25,000 damage melee strike to the face and not flinch, and even my tanking set puts me at over 3,000 AP, but I don’t get even an extra inch of height on my jumps? I can’t clear the same fucking obstacles that I couldn’t get over at level 1? Really? Really?

Direbrew is a joke. He only has 300k HP. A decently geared full group burns through him like butter. The only reason to bring the full five is to get all five summons. (Note that anyone 75+ can do it, so if you’ve got any alts in the 75-80 range, rotate them into the group.)

Bwaha. Win.

I’ll do you one better–I try to change the camera angle, too.

Bags are always the first thing I upgrade. Ouch if Netherweave Bags are going for 10g on your server–that’s way high.

Quasi, bags don’t affect your drop rate, but they do affect how much stuff you can carry at one time. Bigger bags = more slots = more time spent killing stuff before you have to go back to a merchant to sell the trash or mail the good stuff to a mule.

Nope, you can use your ranged weapons (Thrown, Bow, Crossbow, or Gun) in any stance.

1.) Equip the Thrown weapon.
2.) Click on an enemy.
3.) Check the Throw icon to see if you’re at the right range. It won’t work if you’re too far away **or **too close. If Throw is on your numbered bar, you want the number to be white/gray, not red. If Throw is on the action bar on top of that or to the side, it should have a colored dot. Gray = good to go, red = too close or too far.
4.) When the number or dot is gray/white and not red, click the button. Voila! You have thrown your dart.

Definitely better. This is certainly one of those times where I wish I could just lean over your shoulder and mess with stuff, though.

Worse than that. I’m usually trying to zoom and rotate the camera, too, and wonder why it’s not working.

So are those two dailies in addition to the three dailies you get for hitting exalted with Sunreavers? 'Cause I just got those, and hey, more mist special effects! I like! I was sad that you only got to do the heavy-fog area as a complete Northrend noob and never had any reason to go back there.

(Also, I wandered around the old world grabbing Org and Thunder Bluff rep; where’s the best old-world place to rep up Darkspear? Stranglethorn, maybe?)
