World of Warcraft General Discussion

Yeah, we’re hitting up Ulduar tonight, but I almost wonder why, since “crashes” tend to accompany Patch Days. Also, I’m willing to bet that at 1/4th of our “Heroic” raid group won’t be ready at “assembly time.” This is why I love the Background Downloader. Only had 20-something MBs to download today.

Anyone have ideas as to the order for bosses (in terms of difficulty)? I was thinking Flame Leviathan, then Ignis (since he was so easy in the PTR), but after that, I wonder… Haven’t ready many strats on Razorscale, and XT blocks access to the latter bosses…

Also, if you merged your account with a Battle.net account, the merged servers are not up yet. No word from Blue on when it’ll be up, but just thought I’d let people know so that they don’t “ZOMG PANIC.”

I freaked out for a few seconds before checking the official forums to see what the issue was. (I’d hate to miss out on my guild’s first night in Ulduar.)

My old guild would just call raids if they ended up being on patch days. Why even bother? Of course, that was back in the 40 man days. It’s a lot easier to organize 25.

Yeah, I personally find it to be a bad idea, but our guild leader does not always have common sense as his ally.

Personally, I’m thinking that it’s going to be a frustrating night, due more to people not being ready (downloading the patch, having to reassign talent points, etc.) than to any possible wipes.

According to the patch notes, everyone gets full talent point reimbursement. On the plus side, I can try a new spec (or even dual spec if I’m willing to push back swift flight form even further). Which is cool cause I’m kindof bored with my Kitty and would like to try being a Boomkin instead. Course that means I have to get all new armor sets (since the kitty stats and the boomkin stats differ significantly).

But on the negative side, even if I don’t change specs (or go dual), now I have to re-allocate again. Bah.

Yay, free re-spec. I’ve realized I misspent 3 points right at the start of my first talent tree, so I’m very happy to get them back without having to throw money away, especially since I’m pretty happy with the rest of my spec. (I took the + to dodge ability rather than the + to death coil & death and decay with 3 of my first 5 unholy DK talent points).

The more I think about it, the more I’m going to hold off on swift flight (again since I can’t use it in Northrend anyways till 77) and go with a dual-spec Boomkin/Resto. That way there should be limited switching up of my armor (though I’ll have to buy a new set) and I can be more useful than a kitty in raids/instances. However, I do like the idea of intense survivability as a Bear/Resto, but that’ll necessitate two sets of armor (one heavy on STR/STA, and one heavy on INT/STA).

Bah, servers, you need to come up already. I’m jonesing here.

Argh! I just wasted a bunch of time working up fishing skills. Should have waited. From the patch notes:

[ul]
[li]Players are no longer required to do the Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme quest to gain Artisan fishing. The quest now offers a special superior-quality fishing pole instead. If you already completed the quest, you can visit Nat Pagle in Dustwallow Marsh to receive this new fishing pole.[/li][li]The time needed to catch fish has been reduced.[/li][li]You can now fish anywhere, regardless of skill. Every catch has the potential for fishing skill gains, but you are likely to catch worthless junk in areas that are too difficult for your skill.[/li][li]You no longer need to learn fishing from books. The trainers have finally done their reading and are able to teach you the same thing.[/li][/ul]

A fishing mount?!?!

What do you suppose it would be? Walrus maybe?

I printed out the patch notes for easier reading. Gah! 25 pages!

I’m learning the down-side to rampant alt-itis. You have to read the patch notes about every single class…

I’ve been playing low toons for weeks now, to avoid the repeated disruption of patches on my higher toons. Changing talent builds drives me crazy. I think I’ll probably continue with low toons until things shake out for a few weeks. By then we’ll probably see new builds discussed in class forums, and I can benefit from the experience of others in selecting builds for my stable of toons.

I’m still deciding whether or not to quit WoW.

Woo hoo! And just when I spent six hours and several dabs of blood putting together my new core i7 rig last night. First machine I’ve built from parts - let’s just say that I was quadruple-checking the pin diagrams in the sheaf of manuals I had to deal with before firing it up. So far, so good.

I left it downloading this morning – hopefully it’ll be done by the time I get home.

And hopefully I won’t freeze any more when flying into Stormwind or Org. :stuck_out_tongue:

To aruqvan, thanks  I’ll have to try it out when the servers are back up.

dumb question, what server is the sdmb guild on? I have so many alts on so many servers I cant keep them straight … and is it alliance or horde?

Cairne, Horde

The Burning Dog Legion

… and they just announced the servers should be down for another hour. I imagine the WoW Forums are blowing up just about now.

I can quit any time I want to. Although my night elf hasn’t hit 80 yet, so I’ll probably wait until he does. And it would be kind of cool to do the Horde areas in Northrend, so I’ll have to work one of my tauren up. Yeah. I’ll quit then.

Any time I want to.

“Hi, my name is Wombat, and I play WoW.”

“WoW. My Anti-Life.”

I really don’t want to end up a shriveled old woman with no man and no life, which is what I’m right on track to be. I’m going to have to play less WoW and suffer more IRL. Such suffering should theoretically motivate me to do something about my solitude. Like, leaving the house for occasions other than groceries.:o

I just watched a video explaining the new Argent Tournament. It was done by a level 80 resto shaman. In the video, he was consistently attacking targets and hitting for 7,000 to 10,000 damage–consistently enough that I don’t think they were crits. I’ve never played a shaman past about level 15, and that blew me away.

My level 80 frost mage hits for under 3,000 and even his crits don’t get anywhere near 10K. Was that shaman just geared really, really well or are they really that powerful?

The Shaman spell Lava Burst auto-crits if the target has the Flame Shock dot on it. There’s also a tier-3 Elemental talent that increases crit damage by 100%. But he’d still have to be very well geared to get those kinds of numbers.

I like this, it makes more sense. I’ve often found myself thinking that the difficulty should be based on the kind of fish, not the body of water you’re fishing from. I mean, why can I catch a Firefin Snapper in Stranglethorn but not in, say, Feralas?
