Here’s my advice for The Dance:
[ul][li]Scroll your camera all the way out. If you haven’t already, type /console cameraDistanceMax 50 to increase the maximum distance you can scroll out.[/li][li]Watch the edges of the goo in front of you (i.e., the way you’re running). See where the green stuff is coming up? That’s what you need to aim for as soon as it drops to the ground.[/li][li]If (when?) you die, don’t release. Stay and watch the dance–pay attention to where the borders of the quadrants are.[/li][li]Try to pick out a “landmark” for each quadrant. There are specific things I look for on the floor that I know are safe spots for zones two and three. (Three-pronged cracks.)[/li][li]If you currently have a worse chant on your boots that you can spare losing, pick up Tuskarr’s Vitaility. The speed boost can give you a teeny extra margin of error. (It’s actually a decent tanking chant, so all my non-DPS boots have it.)[/li][*]Don’t get too close to the stage! If you’re taking damage from Heigan’s AOE, you’ll die a lot easier. (You can usually survive at least one hit at the very edge of a zone if you’re at full health.)[/ul]
More Hallow’s End stuff …
Neat factoid about the floating ghost costume (the one where the icon tooltip just says “OOooOOoo…” - I got “tricked” with that one in Dalaran. I needed to run back to SW for something and took the portal, and then jumped off the top of the mage tower as normal and … hey, no falling damage! On the other hand, I also discovered that if you’ve got that “costume” on, you’re too “tall” now to get through the SW bank door.
Quasi’s friend Heather at the Sentinel Hill inn has “tricked” my gnome rogue three times in a row now with the pirate costume. Different pirate each time, too. First it was that human-sized goblin pirate, then an undead pirate, and finally a gnome pirate. Interesting that there’s so much variety in the pirate costumes - my toons have been turned into pirates of several different races (not always the same race as the toon), and even when I see the same race/gender several times, say, human female pirate, it’s not always the same model or the same clothes). I wonder why they didn’t do the same with the other non-monster costumes. (Like if one of my female toons gets the regular, non-floating “Ghost Costume”, it seems to always be the same human female ghost, regardless of the toon’s actual race.)
My nelf priest got the Hallowed Helm last night. That makes two toons with the helm and two with the Sinister Squashling pet, but no toon with both.
I was running my belf pally around Outland again last night, and I finally got some quest rewards of DPS plate armor. I’d gotten some early on in Hellfire Peninsula, and then went a long stretch through Terokkar and Nagrand where it seemed like every plate quest reward was caster plate. I wasn’t so aware of this when my human pally went through Outland - in fact, she was in Northrend before I finally made the connection that some plate armor was intended for tanking, some for DPS, and some for Holy pallies. Fortunately, I understand how that all works now
And in any case, even a Prot or Ret pally can still use a bit of +INT and + Spell Power. But I’m thinking I’m going to be annoyed when I get a warrior to Outland. Then I’ll have no use at all for the caster plate.
Thanks for the tips, FH and SFG – I’ll definitely pass the Gluth strats on, and it’s good to know that I was doing the right thing on Grob. FTR, the MT was definitely kiting Grob around in the prescribed manner, check – sorry if that wasn’t clear. I suspect that disease cure bit may have been why we wiped the first time – we got it down the next couple of tries. I think things will be a lot smoother next time now that we’ve downed him once.
Our raid comp is a little short on CC – we had a disc priest, a prot war, 1-2 ret pallies, 1-2 DKs, 1 enh/resto shaman, 1 resto shaman, 1 hunter (me), 1 destro lock, 1 frost mage. But I’ll definitely see if people are interested in trying the shaman/mage on chow and let me be on Gluth. Thinking about it that would definitely help since I’d be able to concentrate on Dispelling and burning his ass down (it’s hard to do that when you’re busy keeping the chow hopping).
Hmm! I took a quick look and it looks very interesting – I’ll have to try that out. I’m currently using DBM and it’s definitely very nice.
I also gave in and ebayed a Logitech G13 – I’m going to be spending some quality time with it this weekend to see how it does. ![]()

See here for a top-down animation of the “dance” (not a gameplay video). I found it helped to get the bird’s eye view and pacing of the splash, and really get a feel for the rhythm of it without distraction. My “landmarks” are the corners of Heigan’s platform:
- To the left of the left-side corner;
- To the right of the left-side corner;
- To the left of the right-side corner;
- To the right of the right-side corner.
:o That is AWESOME. Thanks for the link!
One thing that helps too - yes, I have been living lately… mostly - is to not overrun the “boundary line” when going into section 1 or 4. Most of the time you have to turn right around and head back, and running too far causes a fair number of deaths.
Huh!
She won’t play with Quasi/Wolkie like that, even though I have even typed /cower at her and watched as we (Q&W) twitched like someone trying to thread a sewing machine needle with it a-runnin!
Maybe she just caters to “higher level clientele”, Rik?
C’monnnn now, whatcha two been up to, while Wolkie and Silka have been stumbling about in Azshasar, hmmmmmm?
Og, I love RP! (Even though we’re not in that mode)
And I love WoW!
And youse guys!
Quasi/Wolkie and Silka
Well you know, don’t you, that during the Hallow’s End holiday (which will end this Saturday), you can return to an innkeeper once every hour and “Trick or Treat”, right? She’s just happened to “trick” this particular toon of mine three times in a row.
Heh heh. Just for fun (I’ve been waiting to do this), when my bank alt in SW got “tricked” and turned into “Mini-Diablo”, I ran out into the town square and /yelled,
“NOT EVEN DEATH CAN SAVE YOU FROM ME!!”
Just to see who would get it. I ended up with one lonely person /yelling back,
“<3 OH, SOMEBODY SAVE ME!”

Rik, thanks for letting me know that.
This whole month has been so hectic I haven’t been able to play a whole lot, but Saturday looks “wide open”, so me and “da” Wolk’ (and Silka) are gonna catch up.
That voice which yells all that poetry?
Makes me nostalgic, because it reminds me that I started playing WoW this time last year!
Thanks!
Quasi
Burning Dog report:
Unfortunately, for whatever reason, we only had three people on last night, and the other two were 53, so we weren’t going to do Dire Maul like that. So our shammy (Ragemode) switched to his main (Kahmu, 80 druid) and ran the other two of us through the end of BRD. Mordrin got the achievement, I finally got my relic, and we both got some other loot and decent xp. Then M and I spent about 30 minutes wandering around getting candy from buckets.
I’ll re-schedule DM-W for next week, hopefully more people can make it.
Sorry, I was just totally wiped last night. Should be ok for next week
I was drinking heavily. Shouldn’t happen 3 Wednesdays in a row though. But Lockbird is 64 now, I’m afraid I may have outleveled my usefulness until TBC dungeons, and that’s if I stop leveling, which may be what happens (my typical alt-burnout around mid 60s)
Oh, I forgot to mention! The Horseman dropped his mount for my group two days ago–I lost the roll, but, since I only run that with friends, it went to someone I like, so that’s the next-best thing. Definitely preferable to some random jerk getting it.
I’m guessing they use the mechanic from the Priest spell Levitate, but with a longer duration. I never thought to test it out–good to know!
Outland. Is. One. Big. Mess. Of. Pally. Trash.
Hate. Hate. HATE.
Can you tell that leveling through there in TBC with a Prot Warrior left a strong impression on me?
I wouldn’t doubt–good people of classes that can dispel that kind of effect will just be auto-mashing their Decursive boxes or whathaveyou, so if they aren’t warned not to do it… Doom! By which I mean giant expanding death-clouds in the middle of the casters.
I haven’t seen how it’s different in the older raids so far, but it’s been great on TotGC. (AFAIK its timers are also currently more accurate than the ones on DBM or BW for TotGC, which won’t affect you yet, but is just a general indicator of how well it’s kept up.)
Ooh, yes, also a great tip. You want to just barely get over the line, or you’re not going to make it back in time.
Don’t forget to exploit your class mechanics, too, at the start of a dance phase: Warlocks can put their teleport pad down in zone 1, Mages can Blink over to it, Warriors can pop into Defensive stance and Intervene someone who’s standing in it…
That would be the Headless Horseman, come to terrorize the villages! It’s so cool that you started playing around a holiday, so you have that marker every year.
I started during the fire festival. Yay for free extra-damage buffs!
I remember I started to play during the Elder festival. The reason it sticks in my mind is that I was on a trial account… I would come across these Elders and wonder who they were. I would talk to them, but they didn’t seem to do anything (except tell me where there were other Elders). And give me a coin, that there didn’t seem to be any use for.
Then, soon after, I would get the little mail icon telling me I had mail from them. But trial accounts can’t access their mail! One of the first things I did when I upgraded was run to a mailbox to see what the Elders had sent me. I think it was… fireworks? I was so confused. I didn’t realize it was a holiday event.
Heh…Fate has a sick sense of humor. I started a nelf warrior last night. First trick or treat I do, I get the Squashling.
Sorry to soak up all your luck, folks!
One of my friends is currently harboring a deep loathing for the other Prot Warrior in our guild. His DK alt picked up the Baron mount on its one and only Strat run, while my friend has been farming it forever. (She has over 100 runs racked up just since the stats reset.)
Hey?
We’re Prot-Spec Warriors!
Y’all don’t hate us, do ya?
Quasi/Wolkie and Silka
Prot Wars are the best.
All the hate ***I ***cited was either directed at quest rewards that don’t benefit us or at a player that happened to play a Prot War as his main but wasn’t about his class or spec.
