World of Warcraft General Discussion

No shit, this is getting kind of annoying… and I created a toon on a server that’s not down but can’t seem to figure out how to log into it… is there a way to do that from the main screen?

I’m not sure, it won’t let me go to a server select screen. What you can do is go into your World of Warcraft\WTF\config.txt file and manually change the realmName to your desired server, and that should work. I’m about to test it once I decide on a new server.

ETA: No good. Dangit.

Well, I can get in on Grizzly Hills, Windrunner, and Steamwheedle Cartel, but Lightbringer and Cairne both still seem to be down.

Guess I’m just gonna have to wait to mail that Worm Meat and Deviate Fish to my bank alt

We were supposed to start Naxx an hour and change ago, and we’d just cleared Spider and Plague Quarters last night. :frowning: I was looking forward to a fun guild run after a completely fail VoA25 pug.

I feel worse, though, for the guy who posted that his guild were 4% on Anub away from the Tribute to Insanity achievement. Ouch.

BT is in Emberstorm, but I can’t even get into the game to hop to a different realm. Sigh.

I at least managed to get all my main’s dailies done (holiday, Dal fishing & cooking*, Sons of Hodir*), but everything went down right after I got back to Dal. I’d planned on another BG foray, but I guess that will have to wait.

  • Yeah, I’m already Exalted with both Kirin Tor and SoH; I’m still doing the dailies for the money. The SoH dailies have the side benefit of also being good for farming frostweave/Relics/Crystallized Fire**)

** I still chuckle every time I see “Crystallized Water”. Um, isn’t that also known as “ice”? :stuck_out_tongue:

I finally got into an Ony10 pug last night - fat lot of good, since the world crashed before we even got to the entrance of her cave.

Since I couldn’t get on Cairne I decided to roll a new character on a new server, so I logged into one of the servers listed as “New” and rolled a female dwarf DK. It turns out that half the population of the crashed servers was there too, Ebon Hold looked like WotLK had just been released. There were DKs everwhere, and at least 60% were gnomes, it seemed.

It’s a shame, that’s probably an alt I’ll never get around to going back to…

I put it on too … oops

But it was fun anyway, and I got the key for slabs, so when I hit 80 I can chip in there without having to get a group with someone with a key , still need to get a few old world keys still.

I should really group more. It was a blast.

So, I kipped the 4 pieces of saronite armor out for when I get the next few levels and can gt into it, fishhooks and a gem. Tossed in 1k gold.

Almost maxed out in alchemy and cooking. How about we come up with a wish list of potions and foods to be deposited? I know people have favorite foods for certain things, like great feast or blackened basilisk …

I am thinking once we get the old stuff cleared out [except for perhaps tradeskill mats, just DE the gear and put the mats in the bank for use and sell the recipes] if we have more of a wish list it might keep it from getting filled up so fast?

This morning I did the stuffing daily, got a single Turkey Shooter, and went to Dalaran. Stalked anything resembling a gnome until I came upon some Horde and Alliance throwing a party, complete with beer kegs, picnic umbrellas, spotlights, and dancing. From what the Horde folks were saying, they were throwing a party to try to lure out rogues to come dance with them. Well, and anyone else too, but maybe some rogues would feel cheered up and consent to being out for target practice. Saw a gnome rogue, shot him, /thanked him, and went to the mailbox to get my new turkey pet!

Read the letter from Breanni carefully! Turkeys shouldn’t be near campfires!

If you start a cooking fire, you see an emote that the turkey senses his destiny. Then he leaps into the fire, turns into a roasted turkey, and cooks there for a while before disappearing. You then have to resummon to get your pet back out.

Okay, since there’s no BDL dungeon run tomorrow night, I guess I’ll go back to the turkey achievements. I only have the gnome and undead rogues so far, and I need to do the turkeys and the enemy table one. I can’t resist another pet.

Welp, got my Pilgrim title and pet yesterday as soon as I got home from work! Then I puttered around on my poor Undead Mage who’s been neglected of late in favor of my Night Elf Priest. Did all the holiday quests and dailies (leveling her Cooking from about zero in the process), finished the quest to become a Spellweave tailor, then ran through Ramps and BF with a couple of friends and dinged to 61.

“Underneath” the Arathi Highlands (or wait, is it Alterac Mountains? somewhere in that general area), there’s a boat, like the Alliance boats. It’s just hanging in space. You can look up and see spiders and things wandering around on the ground above you. It was where you ended up if someone pulled the infamous Death Grip You While You’re on the Pier and the DK Is on the Boat in Booty Bay trick on you (for the two seconds between when someone discovered the but and when Blizz started threatening bans on anyone who used it). You also can get dumped there if you crash or DC while on a boat and transitioning zones. (You usually just come back on the boat, though–I’ve only ended up at the ghost boat once.) I actually have screenshots, and if I remember, I’ll post some when I get home (or email them to myself and post them tomorrow).

To cap, you bring it back to where your flag is. The bases are set up almost identically, with only cosmetic differences. (That said, it’s creepy as hell to be used to playing one side and then try it on an opposite-faction toon.) If your flag is also in play, though, the roof is often a good spot to hide out.

No, it doesn’t scale with level. IIRC, for a lot of gear, you have to go to the quartermaster for the BG in question, who should be outside the actual physical “entrance” to the BG. If you search Wowhead for the Warsong Gulch Mark of Honor, e.g., you can see everything you can buy with it, as well as who sells the various items, then follow the link to the seller to see their location.

Hope you reported his ass. They really need to just make mounts on top of vendors transparent.

Two separate issues. First, a lot of realms had one or more bugged tables. On BT, both IF and SW were initially bugged for sure, dunno about Horde-side. Second, I’ve heard about a bug where you could duel someone in a chair, whereby the chair would be considered their minion and therefore killable. Something similar might work with flagged players.

I had one of these, except she just kept chucking the food at people. I eventually got her to pass the fucking pie already jeeze by whispering her precise instructions in all capital letters with periods between every word. Still not sure if she was purposely being annoying, or if the poor design meant that she just didn’t get that you’d throw the foot at someone instead of passing it unless you had nobody targeted. (Seriously, GG dropping the ball there, Blizz. WTB more descriptive tooltips.)

Ugh, sorry to hear. Good luck with the merger. (And grats on the tanking!)

We have one designated member for every profession who gets their respective recipes first. We only start selling recipes, AFAIK, when no one else needs or wants them. You lose a bit of money, but it makes it much easier for anyone who wants something crafted, because you don’t have to hope that the one person with the combine is online, doesn’t have money or internet problems, doesn’t quit the guild, doesn’t transfer server or faction…

An upgrade is an upgrade. You can’t always be waiting for your BiS and passing up everything else, IMO.

YMMV, but I use my offspec frequently while raiding, as do several of my guildmates. Most of us are hybrids, but we even have some pure DPS who will switch specs depending on what will be most useful. I’m still in Prot for the majority of the time, but I’m in Arms often enough that it would be a severe detriment to the raid if I were still in, say, Naxx gear.

Don’t forget–Coilfang Armaments! Get in the habit of checking the AH every day. Looks like there’s a small lead-in chain (starts with Orders from Lady Vashj, which drops off of Steamvault mobs), but once you’ve done it, it’s 75 rep per item (250 the first time).

I’d forgotten how slooooooooow cooking is without the hat. I felt like I could have gestated a baby in the time it took my Mage to make 100 Spice Bread.

Grats! Don’t you just love Silver Dragon? I can’t believe I slacked for so long before finally picking it up.

If the server you logged out on is down, you should get taken to the server selection menu. If you can see the character selection screen, click the “Change Realms” button, and that should bring up the list.

No, it’s… Uh… It’s crys… The water… It… … … Shut up!

There was actually an interesting WoW Insider article about that a while back–someone looked at the way the DK population jumped after a big realm outage, and came to the conclusion that there were something like ten thousand DKs that no one would ever play again after that night. (Trying to find the article, but getting frustrated because I can’t search the site directly 'cause of work filters. Giving up for now.)

I just skimmed the letter, so I missed that part. I almost cried when I saw what happened. So sad! (Okay, and hilarious.)

Oh, hey, I found the article! (My Google Queen crown is burnished bright once more.) Turns out I totally misremembered the number of DKs started because of server downtime.

It wasn’t **ten **thousand.

It was over sixty thousand.

Note that even if you don’t think you can take a normal group of 4-5 level 70 elites, which is typical for the Steam Vault, you can always pull the 2 guys at the entrance, who pretty much any 80 should be able to solo, 5 straight times and see if you can get the Orders from there.

I did the same thing, thinking there might be an achievement for doing the dailies regularly. So I stuffed a bank back full of the made items, chutney, pie, etc. I then realized there wasn’t such an achievement/reward so now I’m only turning in the dailies to get enough turkey shooters.
I only was received 6gold per daily, and it looked like it was taking them off my 25-dailies-per-day ticker. It’s not worth it when I can get 13g for doing other dailies around Northrend.

Buy those baskets off the holiday vendors and make your extras into feasts - they’re basically equivalent to Fish Feasts, but only last for the holiday, so use them up first!

I mostly did it just in case I wound up blowing a few turkey gun shots (I had already messed up two of them; otherwise, I would have been able to complete everything on Sunday). Of course, as soon as I turned in a couple quests yesterday and hearthed back to Dalaran, I found the two rogues I was missing (dwarf and human). So all the extra will likely wind up wasted.

For my level 59, at least, the cranberries are awesome buff food; better than what I was using before (clamlette magnifique) - if only they lasted longer than 7 days.

Dangit. I tried to get on another server, but the client wouldn’t allow me to go that far. It just gave me an error and kicked me back to the login screen.

Kind of bitter over the crash. It happened right as I was going to turn in my Argent Tournament dailies, which means I’ll have to use up today’s dailies instead.

I’m not forgetting them, I was just commenting. I haven’t started grinding Expedition rep yet, and since I’m going to be out of town for Thanksgiving I probably won’t get to it until the weekend.

Cool. I was wondering what gear would be available if I was doing BGs on a lower-level toon. Since I’m doing it with my 80, though, I guess there’s no point in looking at the lower-level stuff. I’m just gonna have to save up for the stuff from the SW vendors.

I didn’t, but based on General chat several people already had reported him by the time I got there. I chuckled at what one person said: “He looks like he’s put a lot of time and gold into his character. He should enjoy a 7-day ban for zone-blocking.” He did eventually move. As for mounts, I really think that every vendor and questgiver should have a 5-yard radius “auto-dismount zone” around them. Okay, I can understand somebody riding up to a questgiver, handing in a quest, and riding away without ever dismounting. But when people are too lazy to dismount to talk to a holiday vendor and then walk the 10 yards to the various questgivers … the area around the vendor in SW was a clusterfuck of mounted toons just sitting there. You couldn’t even see the damn vendor most of the time. It didn’t help that the vendors seem to be bugged (or maybe they were just getting too much traffic) and you had to right-click on an item multiple times before the purchase would register, so people ended up having to stand at the vendor much longer than usual.

I got the impression that it worked like this: If the plate in front of the chair doesn’t have the item you’re passing, then when you pass it lands on the plate. If it’s already on the plate, then you hit the person in the chair. At least that’s how it seemed to be working for me; the first pass to a person would be a successful “Pass”, but if I passed to the same person a 2nd time, it would bounce off their head.

I also happily discovered that you can pass the food even if there’s nobody in the chair. You just target the chair and click the Pass button, and it counts.

Love it! I just wish the author would fix the damn bug that sometimes generates an apparent infinite-loop error when a rare is detected. The only way out of it is to log out and back in. And I’ve discovered that if a particular rare triggers the bug, it’s important that you kill and loot it before you log out. Otherwise, you’ll just trigger the bug again as soon as you log back in. Even, I discovered, if it’s just the corpse still lying there unlooted. People have been reporting this bug on SDs Curse.com page for at least two months now, and the author hasn’t responded at all, let alone fixed it.

The login server itself was down, or something, for some of us at least. For about an hour after Lightbringer went down I was completely unable to log in. When I was finally able to log in, Lightbringer and Cairne (my two primary servers) were still down, but my other three servers (Grizzly Hills, Windrunner, and Steamwheedle Cartel) were up. So I played my RP warrior and got him two more levels, from 22 to 24. And got his cooking to 300 this morning.

Yeah, that didn’t happen. Grumble.
