Well, this is really a case of old content being old. Back in vanilla, Scholo, Strat, Blackrock Spire and Dire Maul were pre-raid end game instances and those sets were supposed to be the best* gear you could get before the Molten Core/Onyxia. A warrior with full Valor and an Arcanite Reaper was a demigod in those days.
*Yes, itemization sucked back then.
That occurred to me after I posted. Old World content = when the level cap was 60, you weren’t going to be replacing this gear almost immediately :smack:
ETA: Got the belf rogue I was looking for. After running all over Dal I finally spotted this level 32 ( ! ) belf rogue running around, and I spent some time chasing her down trying to get a shot. Finally tagged her, got the achievement, and then flew off to Sholazar to do the fishing daily … where I found a belf rogue standing right there fishing.
Now I just need to kill that chicken for the title.
WTB dwarf rogue. Sigh.
I’m looking for an orc rogue myself, as alliance finding a dwarf was fairly easy(/who dwarf rogue), but even then I could count the dwarf rogues online at any given time on one hand.
I have feeling that in the end, I’m going to have to ask a friend to roll an orc rogue so I can zap it.
And there she is:

I spent some time in Shatt and Terokkar spamming “DPS LFG for Terokkar Turkey Time”, but got no takers … so I did it all by myself! I’ve got to say Sethekk Halls is a pretty straightforward instance. I just took my time and figured out how to pull one small group at a time. I did die once, when I managed to get something like six or seven mobs on me all at once, but that was it. When I got to Ikiss I put on my Pilgrim Hat and Pilgrim Dress, then switched from Retribution Aura to Devotion Aura to make up somewhat for the lost armor. Ikiss himself was easier than I expected ![]()
On another note … WTB 31 more Eastern Kingdoms quests. While I was in Caer Darrow after dicking around Scholomance, I remembered the ghost of that painter over in a house on the western shore. She’d painted a portrait of Tirion Fordring’s family, and needed me to fetch it from Stratholme. I’d abandoned that quest a long time ago, so I picked it up again. While I was in Stratholme I killed the Scarlet Crusade boss who turned out to be more than he seemed (I’ll avoid spoilers just in case), and took his head back to the dude at LHC, who then sent me back to Strat to kill Rivendare. So between finishing up those quest chains I got to 669/700 for Loremaster of EK. Grrrr the last 31 quests are going to be hard to find!
Wow … I started working on the cooking quests with my draenei mage, and I have to say the Elwynn turkey situation is simply astounding. I rode from Stonefield Farm all the way to Ridgepoint Tower, and found exactly one turkey in that entire stretch. And that one turkey was right before the tower. That’s running nearly the full West -> East length of Elwynn.
Grats on all the Pilgrim’s progress everyone, sounds fun.
I have a few questions:
As I am only levelling up my skills at the moment due to regularly going AFK (colic is a pain isn’t it?) I am wondering if I can go to Northrend at level 68 to mine Cobalt or will I struggle with the mobs? If so where do you suggest is the safest area? Reminder that I am a prot pally so hard to kill anyway.
Armorsmithing – any point in it at all? I levelled it up as I was mining Mithril\Throium to level Blacksmithing anyway but now I have it none of the gear looks worthwhile, the chest piece is nice but the cobalt set looks just as good if not better for a tank (comparison here Dressing Room - World of Warcraft ) which I can also use and make at 70 and it will be much cheaper.
The time off levelling is also leading me to tinker with my UI, dammit I can never get it right, it’s the programmer in me creating\modifying GUIs all day at work is not enough it seems. So anyway I am looking for the simplest way of moving the buff icons from the top right of the screen, any addons suggested that can do this?
Martu,
I suppose you could, but I think running around NR just to mine would be more effort than it’s worth at level 68. You’re probably better off staying in Outland, the ore you find there is probably worth more than Cobalt on the ah and you have a flying mount which makes mining a lot easier, in NR you’ll be grounded until level 77.
No, not really, you got a couple of blue dps pieces at level 78 but other than that the specializations are meaningless once you’re at level 80.
I took my DK to Howling Fjord at level 67 to mine and herb. Can’t get any quests, but the mobs there and in Borean Tundra are something she can cope with for the most part (she did get squashed by a giant elite - oops) and you can pick up flight points, interact with vendors, etc. There’s been a modest profit from her gathering efforts. Wouldn’t go outside the two “starter zones” in Northrend, though, until you’re 69 or 70.
Ah yes no flying straight away is there? I will miss that immensely. Cobalt is currently twice the price of TBC ore on my server though, I checked that last night.
Well that was a waste of time and money then, oh well. I guess there is a chance of new items in Cataclysm .
Thanks it’s good to know mobs will not be too much trouble if I do give it a go.
I’ll should be in a position to pick up Master Mining (currently 375), Blacksmithing (350), First Aid (375), Cooking (253) and Fishing (225) early next week so that’ll be a bonus too.
Yeah, that’s almost exactly what I do (except I don’t have Mind Blast yet - maybe at lvl 10?). The problem is that PW:S takes a little over 10% of my mana, and I generally have to either re-apply it once or throw up a HoT. SW:P takes another 12% or so. And each Smite is about 10%. So it’s very easy to burn through an entire mana bar on one mob… being used to classes with no down-time the constant drinking is very annoying.
And as far as I can tell I have zero slows/stuns so if I pull an add (or a humanoid runs away and pulls one) there’s a very good chance of getting stunned and killed. Yay, another corpse run.
Like I said I’m sure the wand will make it better, as will the first few talent points. Just amazing how different even the first few levels are - I can see why there are relatively fewer cloth-wearers in the game.
Make sure you level the cooking before Pilgrim’s Bounty ends, I think you can get to 350 cooking using only vendor mats and turkeys with those recipes.
I rolled a priest a while back and found this as well until I got a wand, with a wand two mobs is possible 3 not so possible. There are a couple of quests in Tirisfal Glades you pick up at lvl10 or so which require killing 3 mobs and I failed to do them solo many times. Putting your first 3 points into Spirit Tap (as suggested earlier) helps too but not as much as having the best wand you can afford\equip I have found.
Ooo top tip, I hadn’t even realised that was part of the holiday (not bothering with holiday achievements at all actually) thank you.
This is strange. With all the server problems earlier this week I only had time to do the holiday stuff on my Alliance toons. So today I started doing the cooking stuff on my belf pally on Cairne, and … things are missing. I haven’t previously done any of this holiday’s stuff on this toon, yet the commoners in the capitals aren’t offering me the quest to go talk to the main holiday guy, the Bountiful Feast Hostesses aren’t offering the quest to eat at a table and get the Spirit of Sharing buff, and the other questgivers are jumping straight to the dailies, without offering the “Make and deliver 5 of X” quests.
Weird.
(Didn’t feel like using the Gene Autry version:))
Took some time off WoW to get some shit together and now that it is, I’m heading back to Azeroth.
We’re now a level 58 with 1% toward 59!![]()
I wanna thank my WoW guru SFG for her advice for Wolkie’s talents and skills!
You notice I’m one thankin’ sumbitch, Hon???![]()
Thanks :smack:![]()

The most common method I’ve seen is when people install unit/raid frames. These are a replacement for the Blizzard-standard player and party/raid UI, and typically include the buff icons in the vicinity instead of up by the Blizz map. There’s literally shedloads of frames out there that take more or less configuration depending on what you want.
However, if that’s a bigger hammer than what you want, I recommend taking a gander at Vranx.com and seeing if any of the addons in the Buffs/Debuff section tickle your fancy.
I mean, they’re cute as hell, but I already have a penguin and a kitty in addition to Silka, and yes, I know I don’t have to accept them. Just wish they’d choose something else for a change.
What?
DAMIFINO, maybe 5 g’s?
