World of Warcraft General Discussion

My own approach last time I leveled through the 70s was to do the Vengeance Landing quests, then switch over to Borean Tundra and get all the Nexus quests in Coldarra as soon as possible. The four blues you get from those quests are NICE, even if killing the dragon can be a pain if you draw a bad PuG.

They’re pretty inaccessable for everybody. Especially the Exo–at least SM has a goddamn instant teleportation orb to UC. But they’re both ghost towns.

In those kinds of situations, Quasi, what you want to do is pop up your full map (hit “M”), put your mouse on top of the little circle or square that marks what you’re supposed to be killing or collecting, and then look for the area that lights up (usually shaded blue or red). That tells you that the mobs or the items can be found anywhere in the highlighted areas.

From the Horde perspective, Exodar and those isles are a damned cakewalk compared to Darnassus. Whole freaking city and island are walled up, and you have to get autoflagged going into a capital city, probably killed on zone-in by the guards there, just to get the exploration achievement. I’m allergic to PvP, I’m peaceful by nature! Pampered hippie NElves hanging out in their tree stump and whining about how hard their lives are… sulks

On another topic, I made a lvl 1 dorf rogue and ran her out to Loch Modan, just south of the town there, so that my husband and another guildie could finish their achievements. I would have gone farther but I figured that would be a whole lot of effort, while they could just portal to Swamp of Sorrows, fly to the Badlands, and then ride north to get this over with.

Ever have a 13 year-old chanting “Buy it” for 5 minutes when contemplating on whether 4500g was a good price for a Nobles Deck? My son talked me into it and the Darkmoon Fair is coming next weekend to convert it to Darkmoon Card: Greatness.

Congrats! I have the Agility version of that trinket on my druid for her feral tanking set; gotta love it.

As to whether it’s a good price or not I can’t say (I wanna say I spent around 3k on mine buying cards individually whenever they were priced low) - but I can say you will love the trinket. Depending on what class you’re using it for it’s likely the second or third best trinket in the game (I know it is for hunters - just after the ToC25 ones). You’ll be using that one for a long time…

Yet another reason gear-score is worthless when an iLvl 200 trinket can be so OP.

No kidding! My DK tank is in mostly 245 and 232 gear now, but you can have his Black Heart when you pry it from his cold, dead fingers. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll agree with you there. Any holiday events requiring Hordies to come to Darn are just cruel, given that they’re always on the Teldrassil-side entrance, versus being in the Rut’Theran Village, so you have to run through the whole damned capital to get there.

IME, the price is on the high side, but it’s a great trinket, and what the hell else are you going to spend it on?

Sleutel (in otherwise 245 and higher gear) still uses this year’s Brewmaiden trinkets in her MaxEH set (which is what I’m wearing for most of the fights I tank).

Fucking Faction Champs in fucking ToC25 won’t drop their fucking trink on regular or Heroic for weeks and fucking weeks now. And the tank lead knows how much I want that fucking trink, too, so I’m always in on that fucking fight. Mumble mumble fucking argh.

Question for you guys. Since I’m unlikely to get into an Ulduar 10/25 clear for a long time unless I can get pugged by some remote chance, should I go ahead and finish collecting the mats for the Boots of Living Scale? They would be a major upgrade from the Pack-Ice Striders.

I ran the numbers and it comes out on paper to about 10dps behind the mail boots that drop in Uld once I enchant/regem everything. I had Conq out my ears so I dropped it on the Runed Orbs, but I can stick them on AH if it turns out that this isn’t a hot idea. The fact that 3.3 is coming up real soon now is making me pause a bit, but then again…

Personally I try to do my best to get as good gear as possible from he sources that are available to me even if there is a potential upgrade that drop somewhere.
So go for it, those boots are good and drops are notoriously fickle.

1.) Even if you start running Ulduar tomorrow, and run it every week between now and 3.3, there’s no guarantee that the boots you want will drop.
2.) Getting the combine is like getting up to pee in a restaurant: the thing you’re waiting on is now certain to arrive.
3.) 3.3 probably isn’t dropping for at least a couple more weeks. Maybe a month.

In conclusion: Make the boots.

It sounds a little late, but check the AH prices on the runed orbs and also check the vendor price for the ilevel 213 valor emblem bracers. The prices are bind-on-equip and can be auctioned after buying them for 60 emblems of valor.
On my server, I’ve seen orb prices at around 200g, but the boe bracers are 1000g+.
So instead of spending 54 emblems on orbs, worth ~600g; I spent 60 emblems of valor (converted down from conquest emblems) and have been selling the boe valor bracers for arond 1100g! And as a bonus, the AH doesn’t charge you a deposit to put them up!

Anyway, with 3.3 coming out and all the new dungeons, it might be better to hold off unless you absolutely need the upgrade now. I don’t track the news on upcoming changes religiously (I like surprises), but there may be some better drops in the heroics.

What is it with account hackers? In the last two weeks we’ve had three guildies’ accounts compromised, including one yesterday who ended up being used to farm Kara most of the day (my WAG was farming for Mongoose enchant), and one account last night who had goddamned banker access and stripped our bank of anything blue/purple! Does Blizzard return stuff when that happens? We had a minimal bank theft before due to a hacked account with much more limited access and I’m pretty sure they never gave us jack.

I am pissed at the most recent guildie, too - it’s not his fault, but he didn’t have an authenticator, and with banker-level GBank access that’s obviously a big blow to the guild. I’m a banker for our guild too and have an authenticator; besides that I also have a long and somewhat complicated password for my account, and regularly update and run both a virus scanner (Avast) and malware scanner (Malwarebytes’ AntiMalware). Plus I like to think I don’t run just any addon.

Frankly, I think all the capitals need portals to each other, except that would put a lot of mages out of work (and, actually, make the teleport spell generally useless and causing much QQ on the WoW forums). These holiday quests that require hitting each of SW/IF/Darn or Org/TB/UC are a royal pain for anybody who isn’t a lvl 40 mage or doesn’t have access to Shatt/Dal. And really, c’mon, a quest to deliver 5 freaking portions of food from SW to Darn is just plain silly

OTOH, once you’re through the portal up from Rut’theran, it’s essentially a straight line race. Ride straight past the table area and keep going until you shake the pursuit, then make your way back at your leisure.

My belf pally’s run on Darnassus went better/easier than I expected. She was level 68 at the time, and rode the boat from Auberdine, flagged and everything, right next to a level ?? Alliance player who never bothered me. This Alliance player actually rode alongside me all the way through Darnassus, stopped next to me after I’d ridden past the tables and lost pursuit and I was changing from my armor into my pilgrim outfit. But I was facing back in towards Darn at this point, and just as I changed into my pilgrim dress a cat druid whacked me from behind.

After doing the tables at both Exodar and Darnassus, I did take the opportunity while I was there to fully explore the zones for those achievements. I did Azuremyst and Bloodmyst naked to demonstrate my peaceful intent, and got a good chuckle punching out a green dragon whelp in my underwear :stuck_out_tongue:

Another topic … are there any PvPers here? I really need some advice on dealing, as a melee class, with casters and their multitude of techniques for making me lose control of my toon’s movement (Frost Novas, Entangling Roots, various fears, Mind Controls, etc.). As a human paladin I have both the Every Man for Himself racial ability and the Hand of Freedom spell, but those are of limited utility, mainly because of their lengthy cooldowns, when the caster can simply recast their movement-hampering spell the instant I free myself. Obviously, as a melee class, my whole schtick is to run right up to opponents and hit them, something that’s impossible when the combat goes:

Mage: Frost Nova pew pew pew
Paladin: Every Man for Himself
Mage: Frost Nova pew pew pew
Paladin: Hand of Freedom
Mage: Frost Nova pew pew pew
Paladin: Die

This isn’t an issue at all in PvE, where the caster mobs aren’t smart enough to run away after freezing/rooting/webbing me in place, and instead just stand there whacking me with their staves while I whack them back.

What’s wrong with Cleanse? Frost Nova is a Magic debuff, you can remove it faster than he can cast it.
Other than that, bring a friend, this game isn’t balanced around 1v1.
I think I said this earlier in the thread(or in the previous one), paladins are very vulnerable to kiting and mages are good kiters, so if you end up fighting a 1 on 1 with competent mage you’re at a disadvantage, no way around that. And to make matters worse your gear isn’t all that great either, right?

On a related note, I ran into a 43k hp prot paladin on my warlock today, and that paladin decided that that saronite vein I was mining was supposed to be his. Most of the time well geared prot paladins are almost impossible to kill, sure they don’t do much damage but they don’t take any either. If I end up fighting one on my druid the paladin goes home with a new fur coat. But since my warlock is affliction, this encounter ended with the paladin being kited for a while and then doing a /chicken at me before he died, I found that to be very satisfying.

Has it been suggested yet that NO ONE who doesn’t have an authenticator gets Gbank access? That’s the policy that the Daily Kos guild has…to be allowed access of any kind to the Gbank, you must have an authenticator. It’s seven freakin’ bucks, ONE if you have an iphone…if you can afford a subscription to the game, you can afford an authenticator.

And Blizzard should return stuff that’s been ganked, but only a limited number of times. They haven’t actually said how many, but it’s not in the double-digits, I don’t think.

Sure am! And guess what her name’s gonna be?

Mister Rik: Okay, I’ll give QH another try, but you know it also shows that toothy, grinning face and that I have found to be accurate. Also, those green square boxes are. My only problem is with the WHITE arrows. Those are the ones you mean that are just compass points, right?

Thanks!

Q

So Darleschikns the level 1 Troll Warrior undertook a scientific expedition to Borean Tundra to determine how far inside the Hold the enemy aggro radii were; a bit disappointing, actually. To the southwest (the part with the stabled wolves) I was able to get about five steps from the entry before a skitterer came in after me - the second time I did this, to verify, I was even able to run away and let the wolves chew up the spider. To the northeast (past the demolishers) and southeast (straight down from the zepp), I was even able to take a couple steps outside before a big bug swooped in and killed me.

So I guess anyone who wanted to bring their toons in to train in Warsong Hold would be pretty safe after all.

Three cheers for the scientific method!

I’m not an officer even though I’m a banker. I have steadfastly refused guild officership. I only offered to be a banker because my friend (the GL) asked, and she knew I was a responsible person. Unfortunately Authenticators were not considered part of the responsibleness.
