Shot From Guns might enjoy this video, titled “Ulduar”. It’s a collaboration between Cranius (who did the Winter Veil song) and a Summergale. It was written by Summergale (who has a *fantastic * voice), and released just before Ulduar opened up. Here’s her description:
““Ulduar” has a bit of a “Romeo and Juliet” theme, where the PvEer (sung by Summergale) is dating the PvPer (sung by Cranius). He’s a punk and a bit of a rebel. She’s a highly-skilled and geared raider. She wants to bring him along to her playground of choice, the newest most challenging raid instance. He wants nothing to do with it and wants to show her the dark side of PvP.”
It’s a parody of something by Timbaland.
So yesterday I got a few little things done with the holiday stuff. I rescued Metzen on both of my paladins, and was glad to see they’ve got him respawning very quickly.
Does the Handful(s) of Snowflakes only come from quest rewards? I wasted a couple handfuls before I realized there was an achievement connected to them. I had tagged a human warrior and nelf druid purely by chance before I realized there was an achievement, and then got a dwarf paladin after I’d figured it out. A bit later I encountered a draenei priest, but by then I was out of Snowflakes and couldn’t figure out how to get more.
As far as my lag issues, Monday was beautiful. Everything just as smooth and lag-free as anybody could want. Unfortunately, I was sick as a dog on Monday (I think I picked up a touch of food poisoning or something over the weekend) and so I was only able to play for short stretches before I needed to go lie down for a bit. Tuesday I felt much better and was able to play all day, so naturally it was lag central.
Yeah, I agree - but I do wish they would either make each profession entirely unique bonus-wise, or make the bonuses all equivalent. Right now if you’re a tank and don’t take BS and JC you are at a relatively significant disadvantage, whereas most the others have the same +80 AP bonus.
Actually I’d probably be OK with taking out the “stat buff” aspects entirely and make professions solely money-making and unique-quirk endeavors. Keep the self-heal from Herbalism for example, or the double-duration flasks from Alchemy, but drop the special slots and gems and enhancements (or maybe make them cheap/free for folks with those professions, but others have to pay).
Yeah, folks selling odd-numbered stacks of herbs have been making me very angry lately. I have an add-on that grabs any millable herb below a threshold with like two button presses, one that gets them all out of my mailbox with one button press, and a macro that I mash to mill them. The whole nice process falls apart when I have a random stack of 4 herbs that hangs up my macro - off to the bank to round it off…
They come from /kiss’ing the winter revelers by city inns. You can only kiss once an hour, and you get a random gift (Snowflakes, Holly, Mistletoe - all needed for achievements).
I did my heroic random yesterday and was grouped with 3 others from the same server who all had the same ending to their name. I figured they were multi-boxing or just close friends. All they said was "Please chain pull mobs (I was tank). Wow, there wasn’t a single dps under 3.3k. We literally walked into a room and the npcs died. H nexus run complete from zone in to boss dead in under 15 minutes. We kept the group going and did the 3 new heroics in under a hour. I’ve had some good random groups but this had to take the cake so far.
It sounds like a change of pace might be good for you. I hope everything works out okay and you still enjoy playing.
I remember when it was almost a necessity to have at least on of the npcs sheeped/saped. When I play my rogue I sneak up and pickpocket/sap a caster only to have the tank just run in and pull everything.
I keep getting burned by this. If I see a lot of single-anything at a great price, I compulsively buy it. I then /facepalm when I get tot he mailbox and have to open and get each item individually. :smack:
Get the Postal add-on. It can be configured to open every mail item from the AH (sold, bought, canceled, or expired) with one button push. Also has some other nice features, but I mainly use it to speed up opening mass-canceled and mass-sold auctions.
When you /kiss a Winter Reveler (found in male/female pairs inside any inn), you get a one-hour debuff and Mistletoe or Handful of Snowflakes (IME, both come in stacks of five). The debuff means that you can only receive one reward per hour per character. The Mistletoe is Soulbound and is needed for Bros. Before Ho Ho Hos. The Snowflakes do not bind, but as conjured/temporary items, they cannot be mailed or placed in guild banks, so you have to find a friend (or use your alt account, if you have one) to mule them between your characters using the Trade window. IMO, that’s a small price to pay to use all your alts of one faction to /kiss and get all the Snowflakes you need without waiting for the debuff to wear off every time.
Ick ick ick. Glad to hear you’re feeling better–something that fast almost certainly was food poisoning.
Herb/Alch actually isn’t too bad for me. It’s frustrating that the extra HP that Mixology gives me off of my Stoneblood flasks doesn’t scale with my talents and raid buffs, though, the way that the extra +Stam would from BS/JC. But it’s nice to get the extra pot effects when I use a Crazy Alch and I do save a lot of cash on flasks with the double duration. And Lifeblood scales better now, so while the tooltip says it’s a 3,600 HOT, it looks like it’s probably closer to 10% of my HP.
Which isn’t to say that BS/JC wouldn’t be quite a bit better, but I’m a stubborn bitch and a recipe collector, so the idea of starting over from scratch… No thanks.
This is why I always sell herbs in multiples of five.
It actually sounds vaguely familiar. I think I watched a bit of it at some point and went, “Meh.”
Sometimes I’ll try to remember to come back and check out links once I get home, but mostly I just forget. :smack:
Can it be set to treat different AH emails differently, without opening them? E.g., if I wanted it to open and pull all attachments from canceled or purchased auctions, but **leave unread **auctions that timed out, were bought out, or were bid and won, could it do that?
The single sale technique is one of the crap things that the “make a zillion gold a day” guys push - the idea being that you can charge more for a bunch of singles then you can for a stack. I sort by percentage though, using Auctioneer, so I never buy singles that are priced beyond what they are going for in stacks, even if I only need a few. Then, if I choose to sell off whatever’s left, I try to do it in stacks of five before going singles.
Speaking of selling, the economy on Cairne is pretty good! I’m selling herbs for WAY more than I sell them for on my main server (an RP server). Of course, things that sold for ridiculous amounts on my RP server don’t sell at all on Cairne, so its a balance.
I dusted off my Rogue after he sat on the shelf for a couple years. I haven’t gone into any instances with him yet. He is now 78.
What terms and roles would I be expected to know if I tried the random dungeon/ PUG feature? I don’t want to feel like a complete idiot (or someone who bought a power leveling service), even though I kinda am, at this point.
As a Rogue, all you have to worry about is DPS, obviously, since you’re not a hybrid class. It will auto-select that role for you, so all you have to worry about is whether or not you want to check the “I’d be willing to lead a group” feature. If you’re getting back into the game after an absence, I’d advise against that.
The only thing I can immediately think of is marks: sometimes the tank will mark his preferred target with a skull, the second target with an X, and sometimes a third target with a third mark which tends to vary (few tanks get beyond skull-X, and really not many even mark). If someone’s doing that, make sure you kill the skull first, the x second, et cetera.
Oh, and to be polite you should ask before hitting “need” on an item that is an upgrade for you.
If a tank is marking, be sure to ask about kill order if they don’t explicitly state it. There are the occasional insane heretics who will do something crazy like kill X, then skull. Marks are also used to indicate forms of CC, so you don’t want to hammer full-in on skull, only to realize that it was the mob that was Shackled.
FWIW, here’s what I use when I mark, which is (clearly) the only sane system:
Skull: First target
X: Second target
Circle (orange, aka condom or nipple): Third target
Triangle (green, aka bikini or panties): Banish (Warlock) or Root (Druid)
Diamond (purple): Sap (Rogue)
Moon (white): Polymorph (Mage)
Square (blue, aka box): Frost Trap (Hunter)
Star (yellow): Repentance (Paladin) or Shackle (Priest)
On that note, try to establish rules for Need vs. Greed/DE for BoE items in party chat at the start of the run. Less of an issue right now, but will become more important when you hit 80 and start running Heroics, with things like a Frost Orb off the last boss of every instance.
Frankly, Skull-X is so well established that it’s up to a tank who uses another system to let the DPS know, IMO. And basically no one uses CC marks in the Northrend 5-mans (sad to say), so those probably won’t come up.
It adds one button at the bottom of your “incoming mail” screen called “Open All” (in addition to lots of other nice things). That button can be configured to open all mail that matches any or all of the following types: AH Cancelled, AH Expired, AH Successful, AH Won, AH Outbid. Additionally it can be set to auto-open all mail from a particular person (perhaps a farmer sending to a crafter alt, for example). There are probably other options as well, but those are the ones I use.
To give a concrete example, my Scribe/Chanting toon has it set to auto-open any won auctions and all mail received from my main (basically stuff to DE and enchanting mats) or my bank alt that is in charge of buying herbs. My glyph-selling toon has it set to auto-open any AH-related e-mails only (bought herbs or cancelled/sold/expired glyphs).
It is really a must-have if you’re doing any mass-listing AH-related stuff (which to make any money selling glyphs you pretty much have to do). And it’s really quite nice even if you don’t just for the contacts list-type stuff (although some of that has worked it’s way into the default UI now I think).
Against what? The random dungeon PUGger? Or instancing in general?
Absence to the Rogue, not the game. (Although, I am casual, and usually skip the instance quests. Never been in any Northrend Instances, or any higher than Zangar Marsh, for that matter, with any character class.)
I have 3 level 80’s. (Warlock, Paladin, Deathknight.)
I usually avoided regular instances because they seemed to take forever to find PUG’s. I was hoping the new LFG upgrades might help out on that issue.
Sorry, yeah. Terms would be lingo. I know a lot of the stuff y’all are discussing here, although I never tried to fill the role of a tank, and am unsure what is a “chain pull”, unless it’s a simple “run through groups and form aggro train” I see folks doing out in the non-instance world.
My 70 Mage was sheeping occasionally in UK, and at one point a Rogue was also Sapping, so it can’t hurt to mention. With the new random dungeon matchmaker, it’s not out of the question that he’ll end up with an undergeared tank who can’t hold four or five mobs at once. If he moves on to raiding, too, it’s not unusual to hit trash packs that require at least one or two CCs. (In Ulduar, anyway–I’m thinking specifically of the Antechamber trash, where we’d usually have one or two Banishes and one or two Polymorphs.)
Check again. Looks like I edited it in while you were typing.
