I always ask before hitting “need”. If I don’t need, I usually pass. (Much to the frustration of one of the few semi-regualar in-game buddies I have.)
Chain pulling basically means the tank starts pulling group #2 while the dps are mopping up the last couple mobs from group #1, and so on.
I’ve once been in an instance with a tank who started pulling the next trash group before the previous boss hit the floor; that was pretty extreme.
As I understand it “chain pulling” is running in to aggro the next group of trash mobs while the DPS is still killing the previous one. Basically clearing the entire instance without ever stopping to drink. Related to the “mass pull” technique where you basically pull as much as possible at once (generally an entire room full of “traditional” pulls). One example is pulling the entire street at the end of CoS. Now that tanks and healers (and DPS for that matter) are so OP it is very nice to pull as fast as possible and get it over with.
Very nice. Just to verify–the mail that it does not “open” stays unread, correct?
Advise against checking the “I’d be willing to lead a group” option. Sorry, I thought that was clear from the sentence directly proceeding it, but I guess not.
Oh, then you shouldn’t have much problem. You might want to check some online resources like the Encrypted Text (the Rogue column on Wow Insider), the Rogue subforum on Elitist Jerks, etc. If you’ve been gone for a couple of years, things might have changed a lot. (There’s a guy from my old guild who just got back from a tour in Iraq who was trying to find someone to put a Spellpower enchant on his weapon… as a Prot Paladin.)
On a lower-level DPS, you might want to stick yourself somewhere that you can quest or farm while you’re waiting, but the nice thing is that you can queue anywhere, go anywhere after that, and you’ll get teleported to the instance once your group is ready and teleported back to that exact spot (where the group started, not where you originally queued) when it’s over and you either leave the group or zone out the entrance portal.
My 70 Mage was waiting about 30 minutes for a group. My very well geared 80 Prot Warrior waits seconds I can count on one hand (sometimes one finger). You’ll probably be somewhere in the middle. Most 80 DPS I know generally wait about 10 minutes.
Chain pull = not form a whole aggro train, but proceed directly from group to group, possibly consolidating groups of one to three mobs each into larger packs, with few or no pauses in between. Think of it like chain smoking: you don’t jam a whole pack’s worth of cigs in your mouth at one time, but as soon as you finish one, you light another.
It’s hard to come up with a whole list of terms you might not know. Easier for my perspective is something like this, where you tell us what you don’t know the meaning of, and then we can explain it.
Yup, anything not hit by the filter settings just sits there like always. Although there is also a bypass for that behavior - I believe Ctrl+Click opens everything regardless of how you have it configured.
For perspective, my 25 Warlock (dps obviously) normally has about a 5-minute wait to find a random group. I have this dream that someday it won’t be Stockades.
That’s awesome, then. I’ll have to remember to come back here when I get home to find the name of the addon again. Thanks!
I briefly glanced at a couple of the forums at EJ, but they seem to be written as if I had all the top raid gear/gems/enchants. I don’t know if what they say as far as strategy there matters for someone they would consider rather undergeared.
It used to be that Rogues were the most gear reliant class around…
I only have regular quest rewards and self-crafted stuff.
I don’t expect to qualify for heroic dungeons. Does the new LFG system rate (and place) me based on gear levels?
You can choose between a random heroic, or a random regular mode. It shouldn’t put you in a dungeon you are too undergeared for.
Cool beans. Thanks!
Really, I’m thinking about them as a general guide for specs, rotations, and what stats you should try to gem/chant for. Obviously not all of it will apply, especially not 'til you hit 80, but there’s some good stuff in there. EJ is geared toward raiding, though, especially hardcore/endgame, so at the moment the other resources will probably have more for you, especially if you can find a leveling guide that gives specific talents to pick up at various levels and the like.
IMO, because of Rage mechanics, that’s always been Warriors. We have a positive feedback loop whereby the more damage we do, the more Rage we get back, which which we can do more damage, which etc. etc. Whereas if you’re not doing much damage, you don’t get much Rage, so you can’t do more damage…
That should be fine for normal dungeons. Be sure to look into the rep rewards for the main Wrath factions: Wyrmrest Accord, Kirin Tor, Argent Crusade, and Ebon Blade. Each has a tabard that you can purchase at Friendly, which will give you rep in level 80 regular dungeons (CoS, Oc, etc.) and all Heroic dungeons. IIRC, you’ll want the head enchant from Ebon Blade, but I don’t recall offhand who’s got Leather melee gear.
You have to be 80 to get into Heroics, so no worries there. And the system does factor your gear and level in when assigning dungeons.
Alrighty. Sounds like I’m just being too timid, again. I have a lash. Thanks!
Insert “Burning Spank Legion” joke here.
I’m sure there’s a pill for that.
Last minute reminder (since I’m about to leave work): Burning Dog Legion random classic dungeon run tonight, 8:30 server time. Target level about 58-64.
And my mage is still only 26. Sigh.
Jsor created a Naxx(10) run for next Monday at 8pm (Eastern Time?); All you 80s on Cairne, check your invites. Jsor, I put tentative down since I am assuming that this will be 5pm PST for me, which is pushing it close due to work. I will have a better answer later this week.
Or is it based on Realm Time = Central Time? That might work out a little better for me.
Server time is the most sensible time to use for organizing groups. I would assume 8 pm is server unless said otherwise.
Another :smack: moment from me…
I’ve been using Wild Growth as needed while Tree healing, but I never used it very often. It just didn’t seem to accomplish a whole lot, though it was good for patching up shallow damage across the whole party. For more serious work, it was more effective to just slap down a blanket of Rejuvenations.
Well, I remember reading a while ago that if you’re dual spec, you should make sure to visit the class trainer in both specs to make sure you properly train every ability you have, since some abilities are only available through talents. But every time I thought about double-checking my specs, I wasn’t near the trainer and didn’t want to make the trip, and whenever I was near the trainer I didn’t think about it.
Finally, tonight, I made a point of hitting the trainer in both specs. Turns out Wild Growth has 4 ranks, and rank 4 is twice as powerful as rank 1. :smack: I’ve been running around for over a month without having all my abilities trained up. On the upside, this will just make me that much better a healer.
Grats to all as usual.
I am thinking of giving Healing a go from level 70, my Pally Sagan currently 69, and I am looking for a good starter guide any recommendations? A lot of stuff out there, for example Paladin Schmaladin or HolyPaladin.net, is geared toward end game but I’m looking for more of an idiots guide like what aura to use (concentration probably) and so on. Plus has anyone tried to level specced as Holy?
