There is a draenei temple almost directly north of the Blood Elf outpost (Falconwing Post?) up against the north boundary of Hellfire that has a few quests, and the Cenarion Outpost a little west and south of that temple has some, too.
Jay, you puttin’ the “moves” on Ferret Herder? J/K
I wanted to chime in on my human warrior.
I can’t make his mouth look normal! Do y’all remember that lion-looking guy that was in that series that took place underground?
I think he plays HellBoy now?
Well , that lion-looking mouth is the closest I have been able to come.
I agree that my Night-Elf is the better looking of the lot, and I just feel plain sorry for Quasimodem of the Horde!
Bless his heart, I don’t know how he keeps from getting his feet caught in his robe!
Why can’t they get the features to look more human?
Thanks
Q
There’s also a little goblin outpost right outside of Thrallmar (the Horde base) that gives two or three quests: pick through some felhound poop looking for a key, gather some boxes of parts, and rescue three goblins (Manni, Moh, and Jakk) being held prisoner by Fel Orcs. I think he also sends you into the mine to kill a guy inside. If you haven’t done those yet, that’s 4 more for your total.
The place is easy to miss–I forgot to do those quests on one of my characters, because I was in a hurry and not interested in the “do all the quests” achievement.
And the legs. Man those female humans have huge legs.
Agreed! I wouldn’t want those thighs wrapped around my head for any reason, Dude!
Q
I’m lvl 70 (just a couple hundred XP away from 71), so I’m good there. I actually left Hellfire some time ago and I’m only coming back to try to get the 80 quests thing. So I didn’t have any trouble soloing those lvl 63 Elite giants that the Cenarion bunch sent me after (I think those quests recommended 3-5 players). I just can’t do Hellfire Citadel solo, cuz the elite mobs there are just too numerous and too close together to take on just one at a time. I did the goblin zeppelin quests some time ago, but now that you mention it I think I recall seeing another exclamation point had appeared the last time I flew near there. I’ll check it out.
Ah, okay. I assumed the location of the quests was determined by where you turn them in after finishing them (i.e. the questgivers for HC are located in Honor Hold).
I’ll check that ![]()
Yup, I’ve cleared both of those.
Never spotted those guys. I’ll take a peek over there!
Ah, they’re not that bad. I kinda like the curves (but then, I’m an “ass and legs man”). My biggest beef (heh) is the way some pants seem to change the shape of the toon’s figure (which you wouldn’t expect, since they’re just “skins” on the model). For example, I mentioned in the thread that preceded this one that I was annoyed by the fact that nelf females have sweet behinds when they’re in their underthings, but when I put leather pants on my druid her butt suddenly resembled a potato.
Mining question for those of you in Northrend. Do Northrend’s mining nodes respawn considerably faster than nodes elsewhere? The reason I ask is that in both Azeroth and Outland I’ve found active nodes few and far between and it’s not unusual to go 10 minutes or more between finding active nodes. Meanwhile, I’ve watched while Gatherer sends me a barrage of reports of a single guildmate hitting Saronite Deposits in Northrend, often coming as fast as one per minute.
I’ve got Gatherer’s imported WowHead.com database, and I can see where all the nodes are (and there are tons of nodes in Outland), but most of them seem always inactive. I’ve figured out that on my minimap display the nodes I have mined in the past are represented by a white/silver ring, while nodes I’ve never mined are represented by a red ring. So looking at that, it seems to always be the same nodes that I find active and mine repeatedly. I travel over the same areas over and over and over, and the same nodes are always inactive/never mined by me.
This is because Blizzard rightly assumed Night Elf females would be spending most of their time dancing naked on mail boxes, so, that’s where they focused they’re graphic talents.
Yeah, I’ve been to that site before and looked at it again. Thanks. I’m also checking out some other things.
I’m perfectly content to quest and do the occasional instance, but hubby wants to do some raid instances. So, in order to keep him happy, I need to make sure I’m specced correctly.
Aha! So having my hunter make and sell potions isn’t the way to wealth after all. She should vend her other wares instead.
I’ve been finding the dancing hilarious. Admittedly, in my realm, you’re more likely to come upon naked dancing guys rather than girls, though.
Missed this part earlier, but yes, they are random each day (though they’re the same for everyone on any given day). I wish he would give Crocolisks in the City several times consecutively on my server! I need 3 croc pets still…
Eh? I haven’t seen anything about pets.
Anecdote from last night (Eonar server): I was grinding near the lighthouse where the mercenaries and (grunts?) hang out, trying to level up my Kurken. There was one cobalt node near me that would respawn every 5-7 minutes for about five times. After the last time, it never respawned again while I was there (perhaps another 20 minutes).
One of the potential rewards for that particular fishing quest (found in the reward bag Barlo gives you when you complete it) is 1 of 4 crocolisk pets: Muckbreath, Snarly, Toothy, or Chuck. There’s about a 1% chance for any given Crocolisks in the City reward bag to contain one of them. They’re one of the more annoying-to-farm pets because of the infrequency with which that quest shows up.
Note that they do not show up in any of the other daily fishing quest reward bags - just the Crocolisks one.
Huh. So far I’ve done Crocolisks in the City thrice and Felblood Fillet twice. His other three quests have evaded me so far.
ETA: I notice that even the “junk” items in the reward bag are often quite valuable. I got the Silver Statuette in today’s, which sold to a vendor for 15g! A piece of Polished Driftwood yesterday gained me several gold as well.
Finally completed 80 quests in Hellfire Peninsula to earn the “To Hellfire and Back” achievement. I located the goblin over near Thrallmar (heh heh - Stanky “debuff” - “You smell funny.”
) which gave me 4 quests, and then went back to the zeppelin crash where I got 3 more quests from the cook goblin (don’t know why I didn’t pick up his quests the first time I was there …).
Saronite is special, and only really in one zone, not unlike Fel Iron in Hellfire Peninsula. Icecrown is essentially a long glacial valley wrapped around a central mountain, and the two ridges containing its sides are littered with saronite, conveniently channeled into narrow bands. If you look just after a server restart, it’s positively bristling with the stuff. You just fly along one ridge, cross over at the end, fly up along the other, and you’ve mined up a giant pile of it.
Which is the other part of the equation - flight. Riding around on even a swift ground mount is absolutely no comparison to the resource vacuuming you can do when you’re zipping about on a fast flyer.
The Monocle and Silver Cufflinks you can get are excellent for passing on to your bank alts, too
I got a 2 Ring (+22 to all stats) as a reward once, which was a nice find. I think my second druid is still wearing it at level 78, actually.
Well that explains it then
That’s the thing, though. There are plenty of places in both Azeroth and Outland where Gatherer shows a royal clusterf**k of mining nodes all within a few yards of each other, but maybe one of them will be active at any given time. And if I repeatedly come back to that spot, it’s always the same node that’s active (if it is in fact active at that moment).
I’m starting to suspect, as I mentioned earlier, that WowHead’s database is incredibly out of date, especially considering that somebody here mentioned that Blizzard removed some nodes a few patches back. I think those removed nodes are still in the database. And if the node locations were submitted to WowHead by users, I suppose some of the aforementioned node clusters could be simply the result of different users submitting different/incorrect coordinates for the same node.
There have been a number of times when I’ve been fishing, and there were several inactive nodes displayed on the minimap. One of the nodes will become active, so I’ll run over and mine it and then go back to fishing. Then while I’m fishing, that same node will reactivate 2-3 more times, and I mine it each time it pops up. Meanwhile, the rest of the nearby nodes never become active in that stretch of time. That give me further cause to believe that those node locations are either completely incorrect, or once existed but have now been removed. Or, I guess, some nodes have respawn timers set to a few minutes, while others are set to hours or days.
Now that I’m level 80, I’ve come to realize that my gear is mostly (as the kids say) teh sux0r. Does anyone know of a good guide to getting equipped as an 80 hunter?
The prevailing theory is that node respawn isn’t a set or even a flexible timer per node. You don’t hit a node and that particular one comes back X minutes later. You hit a node, and then x minutes later (possibly instantly - it’s difficult to test) a node of that type anywhere in the zone is spawned at random at any of its available potential spawn points. There’s many more possible spawn points than there will ever be active nodes at once.
It seems a believable enough explanation, especially in how it fits with the trend that you can frequently find stockpiles in out-of-the-way places even though the main drags through a zone will be completely barren. Over enough general traffic clearing out the low-hanging fruit, it increasingly respawns in the backwaters until someone with a distinct purpose comes along and clears those spots out.
It also fits with my personal experience. I’ve flown over Shadowmoon Valley, Nagrand and Icecrown on mining trips enough to verify that, yes, all those nodes will eventually show up. When they finally got a wowhead northrend gatherer database out and I imported it into my own list, there were only about two dozen saronite nodes in Icecrown I hadn’t already found on my own or from guildies, even though the vast bulk of them (all 462) are empty at any one time.
Except that one Saronite Deposite that spawns in the middle of the glacier at the last wall before Icecrown Citadel. The spot with the legion of elite skeletons. With the elite frostwyrms flying overhead. And the elite death knight commanders patrolling. That node is always there. Not even when it shows up as Titanium will anyone make the effort
It’s possible there’s still old data in the DB, but I thought they weeded that out long ago - the great resource migration was maybe a year and a half ago now.
