So what other tanking legendaries have they created? As you mentiuoned in previous post, the ratio of healers to adventurers remains at about 5 to 1 but the ratio of tanks drops significantly. I don’t know what a legendary tanking item would do but it seems to me that once again, a legendary DPS item would get kind of lost in the mix unless everyone had one, the legendary healing item probably wouldn’t even make enough of a difference to relieve one healer to go DPS, but a legendary tanking item could improve raid progression on its own and would be worth spending time raiding specifically to acuire the item. If they do make a tanking legendary, then the legendary aspect of the item is going to have to be pretty weak unless they intend acquisition of the item to be part of raid progression.
And I believe this will reduce the demand for enchants generally and would hurt enchanters.
I don’t have specific answers for you myself, but Naxx is one of the longer dungeons in the game. I think we’d be looking at 3-4 hours. Since we ought to be overgeared for it, I don’t expect it to last more than one night; most of the length of raids comes from wiping on a boss several times, which we’re unlikely to do.
Heigen and Thaddius are laughing at you…
In all seriousness, 3-4 hours should be plenty to clear Naxx, or at least get very far. Also, remember you don’t have to clear all 4 quarters to do Sapph/KT anymore - so if you get stuck just go upstairs and wail on the Frosty Wyrm.
After a several month hiatus from the game, Blizzard offered my a 7-day free trial and sucked me back in. I started new characters this time around (though my 80 is still floating around there on a different server) and have a question. According to This paladin 1-80 leveling guide a levelling paly will speed through the levels faster as a ret paly, but I’m interested in tanking (right now low-level) instances, having never run most of them on my one level 80 toon, and thanks to the new LFG dungeon finder thing. Since I’m looking to be a tank, should I just say to heck with it and level as a Prot paly, or can I do well enough as a Ret paly to get by until I respec later in the game (say, at level 40 per the guide)?
I’ve done fine as a Ret pally in a few low-level instances.

I just remembered that the Emblem of Triumph page on WoWwiki has a table of all the level 80 dungeons and raids that give emblems, and they estimate Naxx at 300 minutes, or 5 hours. I would assume that’s ‘at-level’, though, so if we’re overgeared it should go faster.
16 emblems, though, not a bad haul (though it’s the second worst time-per-emblem in the table).
Exactly. If a buyer is going to buy the cheapest item available, then they’re going to buy it whether it’s 5 silver lower or 5 gold lower. As the seller, I’d rather reap that 4.95 difference.
Right now I’m sitting on a handful of Frostweave Bags I made, simply because right now there are about three sellers on the AH each with several bags posted, and the prices, in descending order, go something like 70g, 45g, 30g, and I’m just not selling that low. 30g is lower than the cost of the raw materials. The fact I’ve got my Enchanting high enough that I can “make” my own Infinite Dust means I’ve drastically cut my cost of production, and I feel that means I should enjoy a larger profit margin, not that I should drastically cut my prices. I’m not selling a Frostweave bag for less than 60g if I can help it.
The over-the-top undercutting is the whole reason I got out of Mining. Players like me (that is, those of us with jobs and limited playing time*) were getting killed by what I assumed to be Chinese farmers who had all day to farm 50 stacks of saronite and post them on the AH for less than the price of smelting the ore and vendoring the bars.
This, too. I’ve had a number of items that Auctioneer showed going for 50-60g, and so I’ve posted it at that price 2-3 times, and it just won’t sell. Interestingly, in each case there was only one other person selling that item, and apparently they just kept posting it over and over at that price, which explains why the price persisted in Auctioneer though multiple AH scans. So in those cases it just becomes obvious that the item isn’t worth near what that other person is asking so I’ll just go ahead and mark it way down. If it still doesn’t sell, that tells me that it’s a simple matter of nobody wanting it, and at that point I’ll just vendor the damn thing.
Is Naxx one of those places that’s magically bigger on the inside than it is on the outside? Looking at the size of Naxx from the outside, I can’t quite grok it taking that long to get through it.
Pretty sure it is. But that’s nothing new with WoW. Try to figure out where the battlegrounds are on the world map, I dare you.
Mind you, when Naxxramas was originally released it was floating high above the Easter Plaguelands and was accessed through a teleporter, so you couldn’t tell how big it was supposed be from the outside.
If you scaled the outside properly today, it would probably cover half of Dragonblight, or well, maybe not half, but it would be big.
Talents aside, Druid and Warrior Rage mechanics are identical as far as I know, us Druids even have our own version of Bloodrage.
Had a guild group last night who was doing the new heroic 5-man and got royally screwed by the random LFG. It was 4 of my guildies, tank DK (gear score 2600s), hunter (2400s), holy paladin (2300s), and another DK (2200s). They used the random function for their last DPS and got an enhancement shaman. I saw them having problems on the last boss and apparently Recount was reporting the shaman’s DPS as a whopping 700  so I looked up the character after my husband (playing the paladin) was questioning how this guy has a lot of blue gear - noticed by a quick inspect - and was grouped with them. Plus my husband and the tank both had very well-geared shamans themselves and were puzzled what was up.
This shaman had a gear score in the 1600s. :smack: He was only enhancement spec but most of the gear he had was very resto-oriented (spell power and MP5). He had gems in the 4 gem slots he had, but absolutely zero enchants or other gear enhancements (belt buckle, etc.), and he definitely wasn’t hit-capped. His cloak was even green!
What the hell was that about?!
Pulled VH as my random and finally got the Lock Down achievement.
I need to start running the new 5mans more for gear; I need boots, bracers, a cloak and a trinky or two for my tank set and only the cloak and trinkies are available for badges.
I was playing the part, as SFG put it, as Devil’s Advocate…looking at it from a gurmpy, stop-stealing-my-profession enchanter’s point of view. I think it really is the only way to do it right now without opening up cross-server trades, which would have some…interesting consequences.
I was more or less trying to make the point of if enchanters are not given an option to use/not use their profession for group members then why shouldn’t other professions have to do the same under the assumption that it would be done anyway because it’d help the group out.
Someone had made the point, for the option, that everyone’s in the group together and should help everyone else out etc, so why can’t it be assumed that a tailor or alchemist would help out a group member by using their profession for free etc.
I can believe it is very easy to level enchanting now, as I mentioned earlier, when I leveled up it wasn’t so cheap. Older content is bound to change to make it easier for new players to catch up. I, for one, will probably not make a new character unless it’s on my current server so I can deck them out in the heirloom items. That’s fine with me, I already got my riding/flying skills up. Changes made to old content is not a huge deal, but when they just tinkering with content/mechanics/etc of end game stuff is when people get annoyed. I can only imagine what would have happened if the flying training continued the upward price increase for WotLK and you had to buy new mounts and another 5000g+ cost for the training to fly in Northrend.
Removing the DE option would only prevent players from different servers from getting the enchanting mats. Players in groups from the same server can still freely trade between each other. A lot of people still join the random lfg as a party to pick up an extra player or two. I still see a few players from my server every couple groups. It’s not as though removing it would completely cut off the flow of enchanting mats. I believe the demand for enchant will always be there. Farming can always continue on individual servers. I used to see groups always lfm to farm places like reg ToC5 for crystals so it’s not like the random groups are the only source to get the mats you need.

To heck with it! I leveled from 1-60 as holy. Albeit, I did not know ret or prot would be faster, and I took my time getting to that point. I enjoyed healing and helping other people rather than trying to level up. With the experience changes it shouldn’t be hard at all to level in any spec, especially with someone who has already level through some of the content and. I would suggest leveling in ret to get close to the level you want to start tanking and then make the switch because it is pretty cheap to respec the first time or two.
Lucked out last night–I happened to be watching Trade chat at exactly the right time to see someone say they needed a tank for an ICC trash (rep-farming) run. I was able to pull in two of my friends after one healer AFK’d and another DPS had to leave early. I mentioned that I was looking to PUG ICC on either 10 or 25, so they should keep me in mind if they needed a tank or a DPS, and the group leader mentioned that his guild actually needed a second tank for a try at Marrowgar later that night. Heck yeah!
What an awesome-looking boss. I generally hate anything that floats on principle, just 'cause it can be hard to tell if it’s in front of you or behind you, but no problems there last night. There were a couple of wipes, but the group got better and better with each attempt–I think it only took us three to get him down. They’re pretty clearly casual raiders, so I was impressed. They seemed like fun, nice people, too.
Extra bonus: Marrowgar was the weekly raid boss.
Double-extra bonus: I dinged Friendly with Ashen Verdict and picked up my new ring. Slightly lame: The tanking ring that you get from rep from running ICC… has Dodge. You know, the stat that they nerfed the hell out of with Icecrown Radiance. :smack:
You know, it just occurred to me: Borean Tundra and Cairne are both in Emberstorm. It’s too bad you can’t organize cross-server groups/raids. Be fun to play with Guns.
Wait, faction issues. Dangit. :smack:
What’s funny is that grouping with all these Cairn people in PUGs, I’d been thinking about how cool it would have been if they’d made the randomizer cross-faction as well as cross-server.
On the Naxx10 Run…are we going to go in the order listed? (Arachnid, Plague, Military, Construct, Sapphiron and Kel’Thuzad)
Approximately how long is each instance? Doable in one night?
Spider is the easiest wing, so you definitely want to do that first. Military and Construct have the hardest end bosses, with mechanics that aren’t as easy to outgear, so you’ll want to leave one of them for last. If you’re running low on time, you might want to skip ahead to Sapph and KT, then backtrack to earlier bosses.
Naxx is a looooooong instance. Off the top of my head, there are fifteen bosses*: about three per wing, plus Sapph and KT. Just clearing all the trash between each boss takes a lot of time, and there are no teleporters to speed your recovery between wipes like in Ulduar.
*Arachnid: Anub, Faer, Maexx; Plague: Noth, Heigan, Loath; Construct: Patch, Grob, Gluth, Thadd; Military: Raz, Goth, 4H; Sapph; KT.
So what other tanking legendaries have they created?
AFAIK, there were no *healer *legendaries until Ulduar. Just because they’ve never done it, doesn’t mean they won’t do it now. (Also note: Thunderfury was sometimes used as a tanking weapon because of the proc.)

Welcome back!

It’s a matter of personal preference. IMO, leveling as the spec you intend to play gives you greater familiarity with your abilities and playstyle. On the other hand, leveling as a DPS spec will usually speed the process up quite a bit, which would give you more time to learn the role once you respec into it.

Naxx is horrible for badge farming. The number of badges makes it look good, but what you have to remember is that it’s one badge per boss (two from KT), with loads of trash to clear between each one. Really, if you’re after badges, your best bet is just to chain-run Heroics.

Yes. The outside of Naxx is maybe the size of one room inside. The thing is fucking hyuuuuuuuuuuuuge. (It makes sense when you consider that it was originally designed as a 40-man and they didn’t scale it down for Wrath… but it’s overly roomy even for a 25-man group, and 10s positively rattle.)
What the hell was that about?!
RNG fart? Ouch.
Spider is the easiest wing, so you definitely want to do that first.
Also, we should have a druid healer, which will help against the last spider boss.

True 'nuff. I was only saying that if you’re going to run Naxx for Naxx, at least you’re getting a decent return instead of, say, 6 emblems for the whole thing (1 per wing plus Sapph and KT).

Damn right you will.

Well damn. If I knew 4.95 silver was all it took…

HOTs are very nice for Maexx. People were tanking this with less than 30k HP when Wrath dropped, though, so your tank should have a very nice lead on the “expected” level of health.

I was thinking more of the poison cure. We probably won’t have a shammy (unless we pug one, or Kahmu/Reins (our top tank) decides to bring his shammy healer instead).
Oh, that, too. IIRC, Druids, Shammies, **and **Pallies have some kind of Poison dispel, and I think they’re all class-native (not talented, so any spec can do it).
