I think you misunderstood, “Logical Loot” was a term coined by Blizzard, I don’t remember exactly when it was, late vanilla, early tbc maybe, when they talked about and implemented it.
Logical Loot itself would not be possible unless loot is determined on spawn.
You know, I had a similar situation with a random, cross-server group. I kept getting blasted by my groupers (groupies? group members?) for my low DPS as reported by Recount. The funny thing was that I was privately pissing and moaning about their low DPS as reported by MY Recount.
On a similar note, I was in a guild run in VH where I had the lowest “Damage Done” but the highest DPS. My guildies (guilders? guild members?) told me they approved, because that meant I was waiting for the tank to get a good aggro going before attacking. I didn’t have the heart to tell them it was because Futurama was on and I kept getting distracted.
Thankfully all the groups I’ve been in (except HOR) haven’t given a crap. Is the boss dead? Yes? Great, everyone did their job.
Halls of Reflection is evil. Pure, unmitigated evil. I’m pretty certain at this point that I need to have all 219 level gear minimum just to keep people from wiping.
Not so much a Mac issue as a “Blizzard released an experimental graphics engine ‘upgrade’ that was full of bugs” issue
Rolling back took care of the problems I was having with WoW bogging down and choking when I was anywhere near Dalaran or any other high-population area (as well as the wonky texture-rendering glitches). That turned out to be the major portion of my problem, but I still experience some connection-related lag of the variety that causes things like hitting a hotkey and waiting 3-4 seconds for the ability to actually go off, or major “loot lag”. However, that kind of lag is mostly intermittent, where the “graphics lag” was near constant until I downgraded the engine. Still, even with the connection-lag, I’m not experiencing any major disconnect issues.
Yesterday’s fun and excitement, Part 1: Murder Most Foul
My human pally obtained her new green protodrake mount right after I accepted the Dalaran fishing daily (Ghostfish). Since I naturally wanted to try out my protodrake right away, I elected to fly it to Sholazar instead of taking a taxi like I normally would. Of course, the most direct route from Dalaran to Sholazar passes over Wintergrasp, and since I was on my own flyer instead of a taxi, I of course got flagged for PvP as I passed through. And that meant I was still flagged when I touched down in Sholazar, switched into my “fishing outfit” (cloth pants, a plaid shirt, the fishing hat from the Shatt fishing award, and Nat Pagle’s Extreme Anglin’ Boots) and started fishing.
So I shouldn’t have been too surprised when, after two minutes of fishing, a two-sword-wielding blood elf rogue unstealthed behind me and cut me down where I stood. To avoid repeats, I waited for my PvP flag to expire before I accepted resurrection and resumed my fishing.
Yesterday’s fun and excitement, Part 2: Karma of a Sort
After catching the ghostfish, my next stop was Wyrmrest Temple, to do the “Defending Wyrmrest Temple” daily. Once again I flew my protodrake, this time avoiding Wintergrasp. As I swooped in on the Temple, my SilverDragon addon alerted me to the presence of a rare spawn mob, Tukemuth. I clicked the SilverDragon window to target this rare mammoth, and as luck would have it he was wandering right next to the temple. I dove toward him, leapt from my protodrake’s back, and fired off an Avenger’s Shield to tag him and attract his attention.
Tukemuth started toward me, but as I ran toward him, I saw the words “Changing Target” and he turned away from me and started fighting with somebody else. I looked to see who he was fighting… it was a two-sword-wielding blood elf rogue. This rogue, apparently not noticing that Tukemuth was already tagged by somebody else, quickly slaughtered the beast, whereupon I casually sauntered over and looted the corpse.
I have no idea if this was the same belf rogue that ambushed me in Sholazar, but it’s sure fun to think it was ![]()
Speaking of Northrend rare spawns, killing Tukemuth ended a rather frustrating series of attempts, and I may start traveling more on my protodrake instead of taking taxis. Because, while SilverDragon alerts me to the presence of rare spawns, until yesterday I have been riding a taxi every time it’s gone off in Northrend. I had killed one rare spawn prior to Tukemuth: the Crazed Indu’le Survivor. I’d been flying on a taxi over Dragonblight when SilverDragon’s alarm went off, and it was sheer luck that, making the return trip on my own mount, that mob was still there. Aside from that, SilverDragon has alerted me to the presence of Aotona in Sholazar no less than four times while I’m taxiing into the zone, and needless to say it’s always dead and gone by the time I can land and take off on my own mount to search for it. Likewise, it sounded the alarm for Vyragosa in Storm Peaks a few days ago as I was on a taxi out of the zone. So being able to actually find Tukemuth was gratifying.
Now, my other toon in Northrend, my blood elf pally … she’s only level 73 and let me just say I’m already getting tired of her not being able to fly yet  I also really wish they’d mix up the quest rewards a bit. I swear she’s been rewarded with five sets of shoulderpads, each with slightly different stats, just from the quests out of Agmar’s Hammer ![]()
Oh, I got it–and it was quite interesting, thanks for the bit of info–I was just saying that Logical Loot wasn’t the *only *possible explanation for why that staff dropped off of that particular mob. ![]()
That’s when I’d click the “Report” button, check the “Party” option, and send them MY data to shut them the hell up.
Bwahahaha!
Agreed times ONE MILLION.
I’ve had a number of hilarious encounters while fishing in Wintergrasp, where some schmuck apparently assumes that the PvE title floating over my head means I’m a complete retard when it comes to PvP. Anywhere but WG, though, I’ll often make sure my flag falls off before I land.
Awesome! I hope it was the same guy who ganked you earlier. ![]()
If you have epic flying (which, if you can use that Proto Drake, I’m pretty sure you must have), flying yourself there is almost certain to get you there faster, and you can stop off en route or change your destination mid-flight. IMO, the only reason to hop a taxi is if you need to AFK for more than 30 seconds or so (so you don’t come back to find yourself flying off the map).
Don’t forget about the heirloom book that teaches Cold Weather Flying! If your toon is on the same server, you can buy it on your main and mail it (even cross-faction, if necessary–BoA items now can be mailed to any character on the same server, regardless of race). Even if it’s on a different server, it may be worth it to you to buy the book on your main, level an alt to 10, then load that alt up with the book, any other heirlooms you want to send, cash, mats, etc., and then pay $25 for the server transfer. That’s what I did for my Mage, and it was sooooo worth it for me.
I just did this for my new DK on my old server, and it’s the best $25 I’ve spent in quite some time. He’d already blazed through Outland being able to fly at 60, and once he got to Northrend I didn’t plan on having him be groundbound for 10 levels (I went at 68). In fact, I think it was somebody suggesting it to someone else in this very same thread that made me go “d’oh! I can transfer the book!”
In related news, I’m loving being OP. With my first DK I didn’t really know what I was doing and he still managed to kill everything with very little trouble. This guy actually knows what he’s doing. Almost zero downtime, self healing as he fights…oh, yeah, this is nice. ![]()
Strangely, I’ve never been attacked while fishing in Wintergrasp. I’ve had several times where an opposite-faction player is also fishing nearby, and no attacks. Maybe they’ve all been cases of “hey, I’m here to fish, not fight”, and everybody just leaves everybody else alone. Either that, or the fact that I’m fishing in “fishing clothes” means that the other guy can’t inspect me and see what 1337 gear I might have (but actually don’t have), so they don’t want to take the chance.
Eh, I usually get bored flying long distances on my own mount, so I usually hop a taxi and tab out to check my e-mail or read my webcomics while I’m in transit. My only real gripe about taxis is Blizzard’s idea that we need the “scenic route” every single time. I mean, c’mon, there’s absolutely no reason why, when flying from Dalaran to Niffelhelm (or whatever the SoH fortress is called) that the gryphon needs to spend 30 seconds making a grand loop around the entire fortress before landing. I mean, the bird flies straight up the Valley of Ancient Winters, and the FP is right freakin’ there! Just swoop in and land already!
I only went fishing once in Wintergrasp, to get the fishing daily achievement. My husband does PvP, and told me, “oh just go in there when the Horde (our side) has it.” So it was pretty early on a Saturday morning, server population is typically pretty low at that hour, and the Horde has WG, so I ride on out to the fishing hole on the eastern side of the zone. Show up, and what do I see? About 5 Alliance standing around the pond, fishing. I look at them, fishing rod in hand. They look at me. Then they go back to fishing.
I manage to get what’s needed, wave bye, and hearth out.
Pull with your preferred spell, either exorcism or Avenger’s shield. From then on continue what they call the 6969 (or 9696) whatever you prefer - meaning alternating between your 6 second and 9 second cooldowns…6 second: Shield of Righteousness/Hammer of the Righteous…9 second: Judgement/Consecrate.
That will keep you fairly busy, but also don’t forget to keep up your Holy Shield for the extra 30% block rating.
For starters I would just focus on the basic 69 rotation until you feel more comfortable. When you get to know a fight more and more, you can then throw in other spells. Remember though that it’s your #1 priority to gain and hold aggro…not to top dps charts.
Did you try to complete this on the last leg of the dungeon? I would imagine that the elites down there could cause some problems. My druid friend made a group to do just this achievement and they way we did it was very simple.
After killing the Chrono-lord Epoch, don’t talk to Arthas. After we downed the boss the druid stealthed all the way back to the beginning. Those little zombies throughout the first part all respawn (until you talk to Arthas after Chrono-lord). He simple ran through and gathered up all the adds and came running to us. We AOEd them down in a few seconds. It only counted 80 some if I remember, so then talk to Arthas and kill any remaining in the last alley part.
I disabled the overlapping after I found out the nameplates don’t work so well when they’re clumped together. At least I could see if one of them snuck out of the AOE we were doing.
Just roll with it…that was your whole plan all along…
I lucked out today and had an awesome group. We had done it where everyone, including the tank, stood in the line-of-sight corner and just waited until all the npcs were there before we blew them up. It worked out great until the healer jumped out before the last npc made it and he got taken out. The only thing I dislike about this is that you can’t see much of anything. I was just tabbing through targets and throwing shields/hammers out everywhere.
I suppose I could turn my camera, but I think that would just mess me up more than it’s worth.
On the bright side, I did learn a new strategy for the Lich King battle. Right as you talk to Jaina to kick it off, straight across from the door there is a little ‘peninsula’ of ice that you have everyone stand on. From there, the Lich King passes you by and you just slowing follow him down. The summoned npcs aggro onto the group. It was very easy and we didn’t have to worry about him creepin’ up on us and getting crowed against the iceblock wall.
In other news:
I’ve been checking the prices on my server for enchanting mats. Infinite dusts were selling at just over 1g per, down from 3-4g. Dream shards were between 8-10g, down from 12-16. Oddly enough, Greater Cosmic Essences stayed about the same, shy of a 1g drop to around 15g per. And Abyss Crystals seemed to have gone up slightly to around 60g average. I didn’t look at the prices of enchanted vellums from before the patch so I’m not sure, but it looks kind of scattered. Some of the vellums are way overpriced, meaning buy the mats separate is way cheaper. Some of the higher-end weapon enchants were under priced though. I should pick up an AH addon, does auctioneer have the ability to track prices over a period of time?
The last time I did HOR, we did the hiding-in-the-corner thing, but despite me being tucked in as tight as possible, they still went after me first (healer). They went THROUGH the tank to get at me. Granted, the tank was kind of doing a crappy job at picking up aggro, but it was pretty ridiculous.
You know, unlike the Alliance WG flight master, the Horde one is right next to the water, so Lieutenant Murp can watch your back when you’re fishing in Wintergrasp. ![]()
I always seemed to meet up with the pimped-out pvp rogue that puts me to shame. I love Wintergrasp, I wish they would make more zones like it. I think it spices up a non-PvP server. People seem to have no problem engaging a lower-level player, but when they’re staring at another level 80 they tend to avoid confrontation (at least on my PvE server).
I always thought that it would be interesting if Blizz had made a world-raid boss in WG. Put him in a one way in, one way out cave with a gauntlet of fast spawning adds and let the factions beat each other up to get to them. I think it comes from the MUDing days where all the best gear was in PvP areas and you often had to battle another group if they happened to be after the same guy. Of course it didn’t have the thousands of players playing at the same time, so I’m sure someone would have a problem with this.
I always seem to have bad luck when I use a taxi. It used to be those long flights from Dal to Nexus that I would always see those beautiful, un-mined titanium veins in Sholozar Basin. ![]()
That’s 99.9% of my WG encounters, which further supports my theory that it’s only the baddies who go after fishers.
Doesn’t matter what you have in your bags–the only gear that you can remove or swap while in combat is your weapons and/or offhand items. So assuming they could attack you and keep you in-combat the entire time, there would be no way for you to put on your theoretical Zomg Uber Leet gear until after you’ve already died the first time and rezzed, and they could easily fly away while you’re running back.
No reason you can’t just point your own mount in the right direction, then tab back in every 30 seconds or so to see where you’re at. That’s how I do it, often.
Depending on the tank’s gear, too, it’s possible that he literally couldn’t do anything to establish aggro without killing the mobs. I know that these days, even Thunder Clap tends to one-shot those non-Elite trash zombies from early on. So if you’re gathering up a big group and the healer tosses something on you, they’re gonna peel right off. IMO better to just have the tank pop a CD if necessary and just take the beating until they’ve got all the zombies you need.
I haven’t really played around with the advanced settings, but AFAIK there’s nothing like a graph that will show you historical prices or anything like that.
Did I remember to post about my last experience in H-HoR? I’m convinced it was bugged, 'cause there’s no way in hell the mobs were behaving like they should with regard to aggro. It’s possible that the tank was doing everything right, and the mobs just weren’t playing along.
Thanks for this link…I just had 3 crashes last night and I’m wondering if my video card is starting to go AWOL on me. Not sure if they are Black Screen Crashes or a Hard Lock. I might be offline for a while until I figure this out, but I might try to go to a lower screen resolution to test it. The 3 times it crashed last night was when I had already flown out of Dalaran and still am mounted flying around and looking for nodes to mine, usually in the Ice Crown zone. Usually it took about 10-15 minutes for this to happen: About 10% of the pixels in my screen would turn off-color compared to the surrounding 90% that remain correctly colored, and the 10% formed somewhat distorted vertical lines on my screen. All of my buttons (on screen and keyboard) fail to work at this point, but the pointer (mouse) still works for another 30 seconds or so until I have tried many times to push the windows key or Ctl-Alt-Del…then the pointer freezes too and I must manually unplug the computer. The last time, I knocked the screen resolution to the lowest setting, played about 15 minutes, felt comfortable to bump it back up to the default and then it crashed in 5 minutes or less.
Son of Biscuit Eater. :smack:
Another question.
Here’s my faction reps.
What should I work on next? What tabards have I missed and get first before I enter the next dungeon?
I asked my husband - turns out that not only did they try this in the first part, they failed because the tank died. :smack: I’m assuming, or at least hoping, there were some stray elites in there, else they really did have a paper tank. The warlock who wanted the achievement was pulling massive aggro, constantly, and drawing healing away from the tank. Especially when he would Life Tap down while he was taking damage.
Then the warlock was yelling for my husband to rez the tank, my husband reports back with “oom” and … he doesn’t know what that means. Seriously. Wow.
Sorry, I should have been more clear. I switched my PvP spec from Ret to Prot - basically I’m still Ret for PvE, but I’ve changed my offspec from Ret PvP to Prot PvP. So tanking/threat generation isn’t so much of an issue. I’m just running around doing PvE in that spec for the time being so I can get used to the different skill set. Plus the extra 6000 HP I have in Prot spec/gear is a nice bonus ![]()
Yeah, that and I think the fact that I was flagged and standing there in basically no armor just made me too juicy a target to resist ![]()
Grrrr… I hate that! I mean, it makes perfectly logical sense that you can’t instantly don your armor in combat, but doggonit, I wish you could do it when I think of all those times I’ve been fishing and suddenly a bigger-than-me mob reared up out of the water or sneaked up behind me. That actually happened to my belf pally last night. I was trying to farm some Nettlefish in Sholazar, and I did what I always do with my lvl 80 human pally - pop a water walking potion and trot across the lake to the nearest Nettlefish school. Problem is, a lvl 73 has a much bigger aggro radius than a lvl 80 with respect to those lvl 75 Stranded Threshers :smack: So I’m about halfway across the lake, in my fishing outfit, when up pops this angry thresher, and I’m left frantically trying to swim for the nearest shore … fortunately for me, there was a friendly tauren druid on the opposite shore who saw what was happening and hit me with a nice fat heal that kept me alive long enough to get the hell out of the water ![]()
Looks like you’ve done all 4 Wrath dungeon factions.
w00t! Rapid Defense!
And I wasn’t even trying…
