World of Warcraft General Discussion

Cool. I did the

Convert 100 ghouls thing

after which I was just sent back to talk to Thassarian, and it seemed to end there - no obvious followup anyway; he was just offering the same 2 group quests that he’s been offering for a while now that I haven’t taken the time to do yet.

(And no, I didn’t read any of the spoilers.)

Oh, I wanted to mention … I am cracking up every time I do the Drag and Drop daily. “Wait! I was framed! Don’t drop me! AAAAAAAAIIIIEE!” :stuck_out_tongue:

I think the next bit is in the area with the little adorable cute baby frost wyrms, just south of the tourney grounds. Fly around looking for a !.

Yeah, you should get a quest pointing you to Sindragosa’s Fall (which is that area).

Hunters can shoot their ice block traps now. At least some of them can–it might be talented, I’m not sure. If you have a Ret Pally, they could use Repentance, too. If you’re really stuck, a Prot or Holy Pally could use Turn Undead/Turn Evil to keep one of the caster mobs off you for 20 seconds, but you run the risk of having it aggro a second pack if it runs the wrong way, and the short duration means you’ll almost certainly have to reapply it once, if not twice.

Yup, that’s exactly what I meant. They train you to do Shield Breaker then Charge, but in practice against an NPC, it’s always better to Charge and then Shield Breaker. Go figure.

Yeah, I really hate the jousting mechanics. One small tip I’ve figured out for when you’re fighting things at the Citadel: if you hold down your forward key (W by default) instead of guiding yourself with your mouse once you’ve got yourself aimed in the right direction, and then keep it held down while you mash Charge, after your Charge hits the target, you’ll flip around in an instant 180 turn going back the way you came. This is very handy for avoiding aggroing more than you want to.

There’s some phased flashback stuff that happens there. You probably ran into some of it.

Yikes. It happens now and again, but it’s definitely something to watch out for. Best way to deal with it is to just whisper the group leader, apologize profusely, and offer to help/invite them to your group/let them take tag one of your mobs (some combination of the above).

Well that blows. I love my hat–I’ve got a whole little Mariachi outfit.

You were right, it is Arthas’s heart. And the boy is the manifestation of the last remnant of Arthas as Arthas himself, versus being neither Arthas nor Ner’Zhul, but only the Lich King. It’s the last of his humanity, basically.

:frowning: Oh well.

Okay, Thassarian did send me there to kill cultists, but I didn’t come across any new quests there while doing that one. I must have just missed it/not gone to the precise area where the questgiver is. I’ll check again.

Check around for the boy just about immediately east of the big hole in the ground. He’s hard to see, but should be around there somewhere.

Check at the narrow tip of the hole on the far side.

If you get really stuck, you can look up the last quest you did on Wowhead and see what’s next in the chain. If you use QuestHelper, that also now has a feature to mark uncompleted quests on your map. Just right-click the QH button in the upper-right of your zone map, select the option that says something like “Track Incomplete Quests,” and it’ll give you a bunch of lovely purple dots. All it gives is the quest number and name, but that’s enough to take to Wowhead or a similar site and find out exactly what it is, if it’s part of a chain that you haven’t started, etc.

That’s what I was going for, too (as well as notching one more quest toward Loremaster of Kalimdor). Since my 80 is a tailor I can make the Haliscan clothes already to go with the hat when I get it, and I’m planning to buy myself a pinto horse to complete the look

Loremaster stuff: I’m just 42 Icecrown quests and 7 Zul’Drak quests away from Loremaster of Northrend. I still think those darn Zul’Drak vehicle/remote-controlled-minion quests are going to be my downfall.

If you possibly can, find another person to do them with. The Storm Giant quest in particular is exponentially easier with a second person. The one where you have to control aboms and use them to kill ice trolls… is just completely bugged to fuck. There’s no rhyme or reason as to which kills you get credit for and which you don’t. Skip it if you can, unless you’re a stubborn bitch like me, who doesn’t want to “let the bug win” and just keeps going anyway.

Really? I found that one easy; you basically get credit for the trolls who you kill by exploding your abomination (but not the ones you beat down, which is annoying). Anyway, it’s super-easy once you have the theory down - use your farts to knock down and aggro a bunch of trolls while sending your abomination running from troll to troll, then explode and kill a dozen or so, then grab another abomination, rinse, repeat.

Gotta go with Tom here. It’s dead easy and has never been buggy for me. Let the abomination do all the work. It’s also training for the exact same quest in Icecrown that takes place in the Broken Front.

Gymer can kiss my ass, though.

That’s how it’s SUPPOSED to work. That’s how it worked when I did it on my main, over a year ago. Now, it’s completely fucking bugged. You can be standing right on top of your abom when you explode him, killing a dozen trolls, and get credit for none. There are theories about having to stun them and then explode them once the DOT wears off, or stun them and then explode them, but while the DOT is still up but after they’ve stood up, or explode them without knocking them down at all, or standing close, or standing far… and none of it is consistent.

Believe me, I know exactly how to do this quest–and it’s broken. You can see other people complaining about it if you look at the Wowhead comments.

Ah, haven’t levelled a character through Icecrown in about a year. Pity, cause I love that chain.

Yeah, it’s been fine for me with the abominations. Run him through as many trolls as possible (I target a troll and hit attack, causing him to run that way, then pick a new target after he’s picked up a few friends), using the AOE knockdown “fart” when the crowds get thick, then, watching his health bar carefully, explode him when there’s a good-sized group. Run until any pursuers turn around, rinse and repeat.

I hate Gymer. I only finished his quest because I was trying for the achievement with the number of quests done in each Northrend zone, and was stuck on Zul’Drak quests to do. Turns out that Gymer can die after a boss kill, except the second to last as that triggers the last boss, and you’ll still get credit. It still took me two tries to get the last two down, and the second time involved a lot of running around to find clouds and a very close fight, but I managed.

I haven’t finished the similar “big ‘vehicle’ fight quest” in Sholazar. And I really, really hate Oculus, but that’s mostly because I have big troubles with the positioning.

Yeah, that’s how I did it on my main, and it worked great. But on my Mage, I’d only get credit maybe every fifth explosion. Hopefully it’s still unbugged for at least some people. Ugh.

I’ve got about 7 or 9 quests left to do in Icecrown for the Northrend Loremaster, but everything I have left in my log is a group quest that I haven’t been able to solo (at least not the last time I tried; my gear is considerably better now so maybe I should try again). I really just need to get a guildy to help out but I can never be bothered.

Oh hey, I lied about the jousting thing. (Sorry, hard to think about how it works when I’m not actually doing it.) What I do is creep up right into Shield-Breaker range, then hit that and hold down my ***BACK ***key (S by default) while mashing Charge. That will then cause you to flip 180 after you hit the target and run back from where you started, as opposed to continuing past your target.

ETA:

“Recruit us!” thread is up on the Alliance guild forums. Tell your friends. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve done that Icecrown daily 2-3 times now. Piece of cake once I figured it out. My biggest problem was locating the mobs I was supposed to asplode the first time I did it. The first time I did the quest I arrived clear at the opposite end of the area because I was flying in from doing another quest in that direction. I landed, killed an abomination, reanimated it … and then had to truck the entire length of the area to locate the relevant mobs :smack:

However, I have no recollection of doing a similar quest in Zul’drak.
I neglected to mention earlier that I rolled up a male troll hunter a couple days ago, my first male troll toon. And I don’t know why, but I’m really having a lot of fun with him. More fun getting him to lvl 10 than I had running an orc hunter through exactly the same quests. I guess part of the reason is that this is the first toon I’ve rolled under the new patch 3.3 starting zone system. I made it to lvl 10 without a single death; I only came close once, while doing the quest to kill all those Kul Tiras sailors and marines - I ran into one of those “bugs” that appear every once in a while where mobs respawn and aggro on you before they’ve even completely phased in, instead of there being a 5-second or so window where you can get the hell away when you see them spawn. So I was already fighting two mobs and a third spawned and aggroed right next to me and all I could do was run like hell. I managed to run far enough for the three mobs to leash back without picking up any extra mobs along the way. Anyway, the rapid health & mana regeneration is sweet, though I thought it was a little cheesy that the starting area (Valley of Trials in this case) is now completely devoid of hostile “red” mobs, even in the cave. Going through that cave to get that NPCs pick and then kill the “boss” guy in the back was a cakewalk. Also, male trolls seem to have a lot more personality than male orcs.

(And dagnabbit, I started typing all that hours ago, and thought I had posted it. Came out of the game and switched to my browser, and there was the whole thing, unposted. Oh well, now I’m up to 116/140 in Icecrown, and I seem to have made it through that whole quest chain involving the ghost kid. At least, I’m up through the big “party” at the cathedral … I’m Revered now with Knights of the Ebon Blade, so I was able to get that Arcanum for my helm. Guess I’ll keep working toward Exalted, even though I don’t see any Exalted gear they have that I want/need. And great googly moogly, I wish there were more Wyrmrest dailies. With only three available, the crawl toward Exalted with them is just plain tedious. And a crawl.)

THANK YOU. Nothing kills enthusiasm for dungeon running like running face first into H HOR every damn night.
