World of Warcraft General Discussion

I’ve only used it once, back when my primary toon was just starting out. I fell off a cliff and got trapped between a rock and a tree. Couldn’t jump out or move. It worked like it was supposed to.

And wheeee for me - I hit L80 with that toon last night!

Problem solved, quest completed.

Here’s what happened (I think)

Instead of landing by the side of the map, the shard was in my bags. I moved it our of the bag and put it on the action bar. There it stayed, greyed out and I couldn’t use it.

This morning, having re-started WoW, I abandoned the quest, re-acquired it and the shard landed where it should have, and , following your instructions, I was then able to complete it, thanks.

Also, I checked thottbot for any glitches, and apparently a couple of others were having the same problem, but after re-starting WoW, they too were able to complete.

Thanks

Ferret Herder, I got randomed into Oc this weekend too. I was actually glad, since I’m almost alway put in Halls of Lightning, UK/UP or OK/AN. Anyway, we didn’t have any problems even with the tank chain-pulling as much as possible. When we got to Eregos, I screwed up early and my drake was killed, but I landed on the platform (with the chest) and didn’t die. I couldn’t heal anyone but myself because they were all out of range, but I was able to occasionally DoT Eregos (which probably didn’t do much good). But the rest of the group was able to essentially 4-man him. I did, however, get my 50th Frost Emblem, so I was able to pick up my first piece of the Frost Emblem gear, Volde’s Cloak of the Night Sky.

My Lock hit 42, and I’m trying to decide if I want to 1) stay Demonology; 2) respec Affliction, or 3) spend 1k g to dual-spec. My total bank for all my toons is only a little over 2k, so I don’t think I want to spend all that dough right now.

Grats!

I’ve mentioned this before, but I think it’s weird how the “random” dungeons are distributed. I almost always get one of the five instances mentioned above, despite being pretty well-geared (according to wow-heroes, geared enough to be raiding ICC). I’ve also been assigned to each of the following once each: Nexus, PoS, ToC, and Violet Hold (3 times).

And I have NEVER been randomly assigned to Gundrak or that other troll instance, or Halls of Stone, or the other two ICC dungeons. Yet I have done HoL and UK at least ten time each. Does anyone find that weird?

Is this a quest I can do on my own once the Horde captures?

Looked at thottbot and some say a group of 5… but then others say all I have to do is run in there and stand by the flagpole or the wall.

What do y’all say?

Thanks

It changes. The quest is a PVP quest…the challenge level will depend on who’s around from Horde. It’s entirely possible to get in at the right time and do all three with no resistance at all, if the Horde players in Hellfire don’t particularly care about defending.

You’re crap out of luck if the three (or any one) are already Alliance, though. You only get credit for turning them from Horde to Alliance. If they’re already Alliance, there’s absolutely nothing you can do to them that will give you the credit. Your best bet is to wait until a single Hordie changes them then moves on to the next. May take a while, though.

Hellfire Fortifications is a player-versus-player quest, which means you’re competing with other players to capture the various areas in Hellfire. Because few people hang out in Outland these days, it can be as simple as walking up to the flag, but if there are enemy players around they will certainly try to kill you. I usually don’t bother with it when I’m leveling through Hellfire, because if there are enemy players engaging in PVP, they’re usually level 80 which is impossible to win against if you’re 60.

Huh. I got Drak’theron Keep and Uthgardt Pinnacle twice yesterday and I didn’t even run that many instances. I also get Gun’Drak now and then, HOS/HOL fairly often. Might be something about who you’re assigned to be with. I used to get the new 5-man ICCs almost every time.

Oh, more hassle yesterday morning, when it was my husband and I (him tanking, me healing), plus one guildie: Got into H Halls of Reflection, and we all ran to the corner and hid. Good sign, they know the drill. Not so much. The pickup DPSers ran out of there after ranged enemies, the DK never Death-Gripped anyone in to fight in the corner with us, and at one point I was in the middle of the side room and the other DPS was still out of LOS for healing. Death followed. Husband, guildie, and I dropped group.

Well, I went to all three and there wasn’t anyone home except a Fel Reaver, and at 62, I really didn’t feel like we oughta mess with him. I did change to PVP before I got there…

You CAN do it solo, just flag yourself as “pvp” (meaning that other players can attack you) and stand by the flagpole; it takes about five minutes for the flag to change if there’s no one else around.

The problem is that you’re putting yourself at risk that some other player will come by and kill you; they might be guys at about your level, in which case you can put up a fight but they might be a lot more experienced than you or have better gear; or they might be level 80s who are hanging around killing lower levels for fun.

I don’t know if it’s really worth it; it’s kind of a boring quest if it goes well, and it’s annoying to be killed over and over again just because some level 80 is bored. But if you want to do it, my advice would be to give it a try, and if you meet with opposition go somewhere else instead - pretty often nobody bothers defending the flags at all.

I think it’s just a fluke. I didn’t get Halls of Stone at all (and needed it for the heroic dungeon master achievement) for the first three weeks or so of running random dungeons; now it seems like I get it every third run.

Two things you need to know that I forgot to mention: Watch the flags/banners on the three sites. If they’re red, you can go in and try to change them to blue. If they’re blue, you can’t change them until a Hordie comes along and changes them to red.

Second, it takes a couple of minutes to change the flag. You have to hang out in the building for a while, leaving you vulnerable to other players PvPing you. Sometimes much higher level other players. Just keep an eye out.

Meh.

I think I’d better wait a while on that one. I’m spending too much g’s on repair work as it is. (I try to keep myself at 500 g’s at all times). I have a few other quests I can do (essence of voidwalker, or whatever it’s called is one; the eggs from the ravagers, another; and there’s wood and metal to be salvaged from the zep).

Still I’ll be glad to get out of HP…

Can someone please tell me where the “North Alcove” is in Shattrath City? I’ve been wanting to use their portal to get back to SW, but I keep landing in the “Lower City”, and man, if I didn’t have my gryph, that place is a bitch to get out of…

Thanks

Q

Mm, not sure if that’s the exact name of the place. If you’re in Lower City, look at the map and find a ramp up to the next “level” of the place if you’re walking, or fly up one level on your gryphon. Go to the big building in the center, and look around the walls - from your reference to “North Alcove” it sounds like it’s in the north side. There should be three swirly, glowing portals in mid-air, showing each of the Alliance main cities, with the Alliance banners there. (If you see the Horde ones, don’t worry, you can’t accidentally or purposely go through those.) Mouse over them - don’t click yet - until you see the one you want, and click. Be sure your hearthstone is set, because there’s not a portal back from the cities! There is, however, a portal to the Blasted Lands, just outside that huge Black Portal to Outland.

Well, I’ve flown there several times, FH, and I thought the portals should be near where my flight master is located, but I’ve run all around that circle and can’t find anything. It says Terrace of Light is where it’s located. Maybe my flight path is to the wrong location?

Where I land is a big circle with soldiers training…

Thanks

Q

Go inside the building you’ve been running around.

Yup. There are 4 entryways into the building. Lots more soldiers inside, a big shining being in the middle, etc.

Quasi, it’s right in the middle of the circle you’ve been, ah, circling.
