Not to mention that she broke free of his control, helped those now called the Forsaken break free as well, and rallied them around her with the aim of vengeance against him; he’s got a big grudge for that.
I was going with the very succint answer.
It’s basically a huge grudgefest on both sides.
Never really thought of it in that light before. Good thinking!
I’m a big ol’ lore junkie, myself, so I love thinking about / examining the motivations of the characters. I was talking to someone recently about the banshee queen leading the charge because she sort-of has something to prove to the Horde after the whole wrathgate incident, but I’d completely forgotten her little vendetta against Arthas.
Also, since I’m on the subject of Arthas and lore… Anyone else buying the whole ‘There’s really only a tiny fragment of Arthas left in there’ story? The bigwigs don’t seem to be (Jania chasing him hoping to ‘redeem’ him or somesuch and the like…)
And… Any theories on who might replace Arthas? (As per the idea given forth by Uther?)
True enough. No love lost anywhere between those two.
Since I only play Horde, I guess it’s pretty tragic when it’s “Arthas” strangling the life out of Jaina in HoR. As a Horde, it’s more like, “oh crap!” because the story of Sylvanas’ rebellion is well-known among them, and it’d be a huge blow to lose that particular Horde leader to him, almost as bad as losing Thrall.
After a big quest chain in Icecrown, Tirion thinks (or thought) that damned near nothing worth salvaging was left in him.
My wild guesses about Arthas’ theoretical replacements:
Uther, maybe? Since he was the one to bring up the idea, after all, maybe he thinks he would be the ‘best’ replacement too.
Bolvar Fordragon. You find out at the start of ICC 10/25 - spoiler! - that his soul is being tortured there, with the aim of breaking him. Maybe when you get to the point of eventually freeing him, he’ll say he’s too far gone/he’s the best to understand what he must do/maybe RealArthas knew he had to prep someone honorable to take over and handle things properly.
But then he sends all his minions back to attack you why, exactly?
Could someone spoilerize with further information on this? Why replace him? Why not just dynamite (or equivalent) the hell out of the Frozen Throne and let the Scourge collapse or whatever?
Obviously to keep you from interfering with his destruction of your leader.
Spoilers ho:
In Halls of Reflection - I’m going on memory here so bear with me - you meet the ghost of Uther the Lightbringer, who warns you about the Lich King, and says something to the effect of how you shouldn’t try to destroy him, because what remains of Arthas is the only thing keeping the Scourge in check. If he is destroyed, they won’t collapse - they’ll rage across all of Azeroth instead.
Ah, I’ll admit that during those bits I’m usually going “Oh my god oh my god we’re all going to die” and not paying much attention to the RP stuff; I should go in as a DPS again some time.
Sorry, Uther’s dead. It’s his soul in Frostmourne because he’s dead. You need a live person to take over the role, I’d assume.
They’re nuisances for the nuisances. Little minions to keep the gnats busy while he goes after his real target.
Why doesn’t he smash you flat the other twenty billion times you run into him in Northrend?
Here’s one for the lore-junkies: Do night elves have some sort of dead body taboo?
In other words, is there a special reason why the graveyards in nelf-dominant zones (that is, the zones that are currently, or were at some point in the past, part of the night elf homeland) are all nowhere near an actual settlement, tucked away in nearly inaccessible little cubby holes way back in the dead ends of gulllies/canyons, with only one way in and out, so that when you die and your ghost appears in one of these graveyards you usually end up having to run a thousand yards in a direction opposite the one you need to run in to get back to your corpse just to get out of the graveyard and onto a road?
GAAAAAAAAH!
All of the graveyards on Teldrassil are in towns…the newbie area one is right beside the treetown, there’s one just south of Dolanaar and the one in Darnassus is inside the gate.
Darkshore, OTOH, does have some rather remote graveyards. Ashenvale is a mix…the one for Astranaar is just across the lake, but there are several scattered in the wilderness as well.
Let me ask you experienced tanks - as a paladin, what enchant/enhancement should I put on my ilvl 60 shield? I have easy access to common enchants; not sure how hard it is to get Felsteel spikes.
The ones I’m looking at are:
- Shield Block (+15 block rating)
- Tough Shield (+36 block value)
- Felsteel Shield Spike (26-38 block damage)
- Major Stamina (+18 stamina)
My un-enhanced shield does 5-35 damage per block; it seems to me that increasing my block rate would be a good thing to do. But I don’t know the difference between “block rating” and “block value.”
There was an Alliance Rogue griefing the Ogrimmer auction house the other night. I toyed with the idea of trying to interfere in his odious plans. I left-clicked on him, and could see no buffs. (He was flagged, of course.) Not even his poisoned blades, sprint, whatever.
His helmet was being displayed, and I saw that it was the purchased T9 emblem PvP kind, and reliased I would be rather outgeared. I declined to engage, much to Thrall’s disappointment, I’m sure.
Good point. I’m hiding in the corner when that talk is going on, I forgot where the source of the spirit was from. I like my other guess.
He tried! When my hunter first got to Icecrown and was doing the “take some land for the Argent Crusade” quests, she ran into him and nearly died! It’s the quest where you fly out on a protodrake and pick up captured Argent Crusaders. Go out a little too far and you’ll see the Lich King standing out there. Turns out he’s not a “projection” or anything - he actually shot a shadowy attack at me that was doing something like 3k a tick. Nearly bought the farm there.
Or redifine what it considers to be “threat” Just as every singe player group has determined that you want to kill the healer first, then DPS, then the tanks in any mob group, the mobs should be trying to do that as well. Imagine the challenge of tanking a mob that is actively ignoring you to get to your healer.
Speaking as a healer, I prefer the current method
There’s an alliance quest in HF where you have to enter the shadow world and view a piece of lore or pick up a mcguffin or something in the little Vykrul town between Vengeance Landing and Utgarde Keep. If you try to go into Utgarde while in the shadow realm, the Lich King will meet you at the steps, monologue for a bit, and dispose of you.
Yeah, I’m primarily talking about the graveyards in places like Ashenvale and Felwood. Seriously, every other race in the game puts their graveyards in relatively open spaces and you can exit the vicinity of the graveyard in almost any direction. But night elf graveyards seem to be almost always surrounded on three sides by high, unclimbable hills or cliffs, or steep drop-offs, and you’re forced to travel the one direction that’s open, and often quite some distance in that direction before you even have an option of changing course and starting to move in the general direction of your corpse.
I know, I know, I whine.
