…Coooool. I never had an inkling.
I did two randoms last night on my feral tank-pretending-to-be-boomkin druid last night, and they couldn’t have been more different.
First one was in Heroic VH. I was surprised that the gear levels were actually close to mine, though our rogue was really crappily geared. Turns out he had just got much of the gear, hadn’t gemmed or enchanted it, and - was asking for DPS reports. The tank went WTF, as did I and another DPS. He kept bugging us about them, and I told him to just download Recount for the future. So then he asked if no one at all in the group had it. I said I did, but I wasn’t going to spam it to the group. Then he asked me to whisper it to him. I just said “You’re last” (he was, with barely 1K DPS), which seemed to shut him up.
Second was H PoS. I almost dropped group on entry because my DPS is wussy compared to most groups that get in, and all these guys were well-geared. They were cool, though, even with a big wipe on the final boss - somehow the undead from the tunnel started nuking the priest and killed him! We all formed up, went back in, and kicked butt. Then they said we should continue on to H HoR. I said uh, no thanks, you can get a way better DPS to fill my spot. The tank typed in, “sad” and I just replied with “rofl, you’re just being kind,” said thanks for the run, and left the group.
Well, up until Well of Eternity II: Electric Boogaloo was destroyed, they were immortal. Not as much need for graveyards when old age doesn’t kill you.
1.) Is this for soloing, or are you going to be doing a lot of instances?
2.) How long do you think you’ll have this shield?
The shield spike will help with AOE threat and damage, as will the Tough Shield enchant. I’d ignore the Shield Block one; BV is generally pretty useless, unless you’re specifically trying to build an unhittable set. (Block is somewhat more useful for Paladins than for Warriors, though, at least for trash.) Major Stamina is a good all-around enchant: having more HP is never a bad thing for a tank, even pre-80.
So, here’s how I’d decide:
1.) If I die too much, or if I get too close to death too often, I’d get the +18 Stam.
2.) If I have a lot of problems with mobs peeling off me in an instance, or if I want them to die faster, I’d get the Shield Spike or the +36 BV.
3.) If I’m fighting a lot of things that do a small amount of damage, I’d get the +36 BV. (Mouseover your current Block stats on your character sheet and see how much damage your Block stops–if it’s a number that’s not too far below your general incoming damage, that’s when it’s worthwhile to pick up some Block.)
Honestly, you should probably just go with the Stam. It will always help, versus the other chants, which require you to actually block something for them to take effect.
Block Rating: Chance to block
Block Value: How much you block when you do block
No, but even then the Night Elves were doing dangerous things like fighting old gods and monsters, and immortality isn’t invulnerability. They could still die from inflicted trauma. Or falling off of mountains. Or giant trees.
Yup. Note, I said *not as much *need, not *no *need. The whole “you don’t die except from violence or particularly stupid accidents” thing does tend to put a pretty big skew into the whole perception of death thing, though. When you can go on forever if you’re careful enough, it’s gotta make you a lot squickier about contemplating the whole idea. We *humans *don’t even do such a good job of it, and it’s guaranteed for us, usually within a mere century.
In general, though, I think it’s just more of the annoying Night Elf zone design. I can’t fucking stand them–you can never get from Point A to Point B without taking an insanely roundabout way, because there’s always some cliff or tree or other impassable area in the way. And don’t even get me started on barrow dens.
Man, I would have stayed with that group. If the group didn’t mind that you were bringing up the rear in DPS, then you could have stuck with them and picked up some sweet lootz! There are lots of times where DPS isn’t the best thing about a PUG member. Sometimes you just want someone who won’t screw up too much.
I hate to admit this in public, but I just found out yesterday that I can buy t9 gear with EoTs. :smack: :smack: :smack: I now have two parts of that set on my main. The others had just spent EoTs on things like shoulders and sigils. I don’t know why the EoT quartermaster doesn’t have all the EoT stuff.
It is pretty terrible. I never made a 2nd NE because I couldn’t stand the thought of doing those quest chains until I could escape to the rest of the world. It’s pretty terrain, but it’s just so much running.
I figured that was the case, but I probably really would have screwed up their damage average for that last gauntlet with the Lich King. I’ve done it with an all-guild group in good gear and been severely disappointed in how they did. In fact, I’m not entirely sure the instance would have let my druid in due to gear level - I should check her in boomkin gear and see in the “pick a dungeon mode” if I’m locked out of it or not.
Besides, that place stresses me the hell out. Way too much pressure.
Because they made separate Triumph quartermasters for the full badge gear. It’s probably because, unlike previous Wrath tiers, you’re buying the actual item with the badges, and not using the badges to purchase a token, which you then exchange for the tier piece at your particular armor-class vendor in Dal. They moved a regular Triumph token quartermaster to Dal, but AFAIK they never added the tier pieces to the other tier vendors, so you’re stuck running the whole way to ToC.
FWIW, if you ever want to see everything you can buy with a given badge, you can search Wowhead. Just search for Emblem of Triumph (or whatever), then click on the tab that says something like “Currency For.” You can even add on extra filters to, say, only search for items that a Mage could equip, or that the Alliance could purchase.
There’s no rule that you have to stay in your starting zone. Most people will get to at least 5 before they move, but you could even run yourself to another lowbie area if you wanted.
Yep. I know. That’s how I found that I could buy them. I have the iPhone Armory app. It’s pretty good for stuff like that.
Well, I’m too lazy to run around that zone, so there’s no way that I wouldn’t be too lazy to run to another starting zone. Now, I could just get a guildy to summon me to where ever I wanted to go, but I wasn’t in this guild at the time that I made my last toon.
Yeah, but to me, it’s an acceptable price to pay to be able to ride a kitty right from lvl 20, instead of having to grind exalted with Darnassus to get one on the other races.
Which usually involve doing the NE lowbie quests anyway. (Something I’ve done on just about every alliance toon I’ve got.)
What’s hilarious is, I actually ground to Exalted with Stormwind on my Nelf, so I could get a horse right at 40 (back when that was when you got your first mount). I don’t think I even ever bought a saber mount until they turned mounts into spells.
Well, nowadays you have the option of doing a zillion Argent Tourney dailies instead.
Not if you roll a Dranei you don’t, more than 10 levels of the “butt mount” will drive anyone insane.
I know it’s just a game but all and these little tidbits I started to wonder about some of the quests where the LK’s Image would show up. Similar to how in movies the bad guy leader always sends his goons to dispatch the hero after they’ve captured him, and then leaves the room.
We’ve been beating him down left and right all the way through Northrend. You’d think at some point he would think of us as more than just nuisances and realize we’ve cut down every one of his minions and followers.
I’d find it hilarious, albeit improbable, for the final Arthas fight to have him just about ready to send out a pet to dispatch us “pests” and he starts a few words into a deep lecture about how powerful he his and then go “Wait…wait, a second. I remember you! Aren’t you that guy who killed x, x, and x, some of my most trusted minions? Yeah, I remember now. Well shit, I better do this myself then”
<engage>
Actually, you’re probably better off doing the lowbie quests, too, so you can take the extra 10g (plus a chance at another seal) instead of the rep tokens. The ubernoob area quests really dump a ridiculous amount of rep on you, and the rest of the lowbie zones aren’t much worse.
Agreed.
Also, I can’t resist the urge to insert “IN THE MOUNTAINS!” after any occurence of “I remember you!”
I almost typed that exact response and thought “nah, folks will think I’m weird”. Should have known my audience better.
That’s a huge part of the problem. Like in Felwood where you get one of the quests to kill a satyr boss up in the northern part of the zone. You can see where this guy is thanks to Quest Helper or the new quest tracker: “Oh, there he is, about 50 yards away from me, right off the road!” So you spend half an hour trying unsuccessfully to find the path up to him, and eventually figure out that you’ve got to run another 300 yards up the road, locate an obscure, indistinct path up the hill, and then backtrack 300 yards to finally get to the mob in question. The question I found myself asking was, “In the thousands of years the night elves occupied these lands, couldn’t they have done something to make it easier to get around?”
Then you have to ask the question about Tedrassil: how did this gigantic tree, which was grown just a handful of years ago, apparently, end up with deep, water-carved, stone caves?"
I ended up with only 7 Champion’s Seals last night. The lag on Lightbringer was worse than I’ve ever seen it, and almost everybody was complaining about it. Jousting was frankly impossible. My usual technique is to allow my opponent to ride away from me while I spam the “Charge” key, so that I’ll charge the instant the range allows it. But with the lag, by the time my own Charge finally fired off, my opponent had already thrown a Shield Breaker, Charged me, and tossed another Shield Breaker. I finally had to give up. I didn’t even attempt Threat From Above and Battle Before the Citadel. I ended up just doing the dailies that took me out of the vicinity of the Argent Tournament grounds (the ones involving the kvaldir, the one to catch some snobolds) and the ones that just involved mostly one-on-one, normal melee combat, since I can pretty much faceroll those and don’t worry much about getting killed.
This post on the official forums sort of addresses the issue, but if anything the problem has gotten worse since that post was made.
Blizz notified me today that they have disabled my account due to the fact that last May I put a WoW charge on my phone bill.
Since I recently went bankrupt, AT&T somehow recinded that charge and now WoW won’t accept ANYTHING from me but a mailed-in money order and I cannot do that till next week, so I’m gonna have to go w/o WoW till then, plus give them time to GET the damn thing which I am gonna have to send certified mail.
Sucks to be me, I guess, and jayjay’s in good company!:):smack:
See y’all on the “other side”!
