Like any other small guild, we could always use more tanks and/or healers. But really if we want to start tackling 10-mans we need more dps too. So whatever you enjoy!
You’re not wrong about the foot armor. There are tank boots that drop from the final boss of the Forge of Souls, and I think also from H Tourney of Champions, and DPS boots that drop from H ToC - I’m not sure if/where there are DPS boot drops in the new 5-mans. Also, I guess there are crafted boots that you can get made with a bunch of titansteel and crusader orbs, but I wound up getting the ones from Forge of Souls to drop, so I didn’t look into that too hard.
I think we actually need ranged DPS more than anything right now, though I’m counting myself as a tank when in practice I never seem to have the block of time free to raid.
There’s a very nice axe that drops from the final boss of the Pit of Saron, and a good polearm (better for tanking though, or for druids) that drops from the first boss in the Halls of Reflection. (both Heroic).
Are Wednesdays the official dungeon run days from now until forever? My warrior tank hit 60 a few days ago, and I’d be psyched to do some runs with everyone, but I work most Wednesdays until 10PM EST.
I hate HFP too, but I must say that the combination of faster leveling 60-70 and the availability of flying mounts at 60 has made it orders of magnitude less annoying. Not to mention the fact that I’m usually in and out in a day or two.
My problem is that I also hate Zangarmarsh (which is where my 63 paladin is now) so things don’t start getting fun for me until I hit Terokkar.
I wish I was brave enough to try instance tanking on him (he’s specced Prot, but his gear isn’t very good and he runs out of mana so fast). That would make things go a lot faster.
Yeah, pretty much – the Wednesday night dungeon run has been going on since last spring. But that doesn’t mean we can’t do runs at other times as well!
For plate, Griselda Hunderland at Tanks For Everything in Dalaran has 3 pairs of boots on “page 4” of her vendor window, but none of the other three vendors sell boots. I know for cloth there’s one vendor who sells just boots.
SFG, thanks for the additional axe info. Guess I’ll go find me an axe and/or polearm and start leveling it/them up. Of course I’ll have to respec, but that’s no biggie. I think I went with swords and maces simply because I really wasn’t coming across any decent axes at the start.
Fun stuff yesterday with my paladin! Doing dailies I teamed up with a shaman and we 2-manned Chillmaw and Battle Before the Citadel. By the time I finished the Argent Tournament dailies I had enough Seals to buy the BoA robe for my mage. Then a bit later, I teamed up with the same dwarf paladin I teamed with to do some group quests a few days ago, and together we 2-manned a whole chain of those 5-man quests that Thassarian hands out on the Skybreaker. We completed the first few easily (relatively speaking), but the final one, The Guardians of Corp’rethar, was a royal bitch. We ended up spending a good amount of time resurrecting each other, thanks largely to the Fear ability of the Harbingers of Horror making us run right off the edge of the mile-high wall we were fighting on top of (as I said in party chat, “Goddam cooldowns!”, referring to the shared cooldowns on Every Man For Himself and Hand of Freedom; nothing like getting Feared, using EMFH to escape, and getting Feared again almost immediately and now being able to do nothing about it). [I know, now somebody will tell me that Cleanse can get rid of Fear …]
Anyway, went back and turned in those quests, and BOOM: Icecrown: The Final Goal
Now I just need those last 7 Zul’Drak quests grumble grumble for Loremaster of Northrend.
Grats Rik! Now I feel bad about those 12 or so Icecrown quests I still have waiting. I really need to do those sometime.
As has been observed, some of us have lowbies. My Hunter’s currently in her early 40s, but until I win the lottery, playing once a week on her is usually overestimating.
AFAIK, the only badge boots are purchasable with Valor. That’s a big downgrade from the Triumph emblems (two whole tiers down); Valor items are 213, which is Naxx25. You’re better off just checking ToC and the ICC 5-mans to see what you should be grinding for there.
FWIW, my rule of thumb is: exhaust all upgrades from the current tier of badges before downranking them. So, I’ll get all the Triumph upgrades I can before I start buying Conquest items, then all the Conquest items I can before buying Valor items, etc. And honestly, unless I were getting really desperate, I wouldn’t even bother with anything off the Valor or Honor badge vendors.
This is infinitely true. Also, in retrospect, I’m kicking myself for not leaving behind an Heirloom Cold Weather Flying book for my currently 50-ish Priest when I transferred servers on my main.
Go for it! Nobody else’s gear is gonna be that great, either. The worst that could happen is some random baddie QQs at you, you put them on ignore, and you never have to talk to them again.
Actually, I’m going to tell you to just reroll. Warriors can break Fear once every 30 seconds.
I’m currently using these PvP reward boots. Better than the level 200 & 213, plus a yellow socket. They have done the job for me when I first got them, but now I’m looking for PvE boots to boost the minor stats. Go grind some honor in Wintergrasp and purchase from Sergent Thunderhorn in the Officer’s Lounge in Orgrimmar.
Ya know, it’s not all that often I want to bitch-slap somebody in-game, but I really felt like it today.
I responded to an “lfg threat/cit” and accepted the group invite that followed. I proceeded immediately to the area where Chillmaw patrols. I was joined mere moments later by a priest and a mage. We waited a bit longer for the Party Leader to arrive. And waited a bit more. The priest said, “Let’s just pull. He’s still not here.” The mage and I elected to wait. Then I happened to glance at my chat window and saw an announcement (I’m guessing from some addon the Party Leader was using) that Party Leader had just finished collecting 3 Valiant’s Emblems, or whatever they’re called.
That’s right, the dude sent out an LFG threat/cit while he was still in the middle of doing his Valiant’s jousting daily, and sent out party invites to those who responded, and then kept everybody waiting while he finished what he was doing.
Okay, a bit of  there. He (a DK) finally showed up and we downed Chillmaw. Everybody mounted up and headed off to do Battle Before the Citadel. The priest got there first, mounted up, and waited in front of the horse area. Then I got there, mounted up, and moved to wait beside the priest. A second later the mage showed up. We waited. No DK. Then came another announcement from Party Leader: “10/10 Converted Heroes Slain”
That’s right, the idiot stopped along the way from Chillmaw to the Citadel to do another quest while we all waited for him.
At that point the rest of us said, figuratively, “fuck it” and started without him.
:smack:
Oh yeah, I remember soloing that one over the course of about a week - any time I was in the area and Army of the Dead was off cooldown, I’d drop by to fight one of those guys; that was a win 100% of the time on the melee dudes but only about 60% on the lich guys. I especially hated the thing that knocked you back like 10,000 feet.
Yeah, the big dogs weren’t all that tough, but my first death was to one of the lich’s knockback attacks. Sent me saaaaaaaaiiiiiling over the edge, and my corpse landed right at the feet of a whole platoon of gigantic level 80 elite skeletons. That rez was a bit delicate …
We ended up just pulling those liches one at a time all the way back to the end of the wall where it abuts the mountainside, and made sure we kept our backs to the mountain so that any knockback would just send us up the hill a bit. Didn’t help with the Fears, though.
The BDL dungeon run was a success. As expected, we got in the random queue and ended up in Ramparts. I was a bit rusty since I hadn’t done Ramps in a long time (way more than a year) but it’s pretty forgiving and also pretty short - we ended up running it twice. No wipes, although we lost our healer once and our DK once. Plenty of good upgrades though. Next week, same time.
Aw, damn. I forgot all about it.
… the next time y’all do a BDL dungeon run, I’d better come along, 'cause y’all very badly need a “Gomer Pyle”!
Kidding, just kidding:D. I’m gonna stick with Wolkie and Silka and level my DK in Cairn inbetween.

Are you using Seal of Wisdom? It’s not a tanking seal I know but it solves the mana issues until 71 when you get Divine Plea which, coupled with the talent Guarded By The Light, means endless mana. You also should have Glyph of Divine Plea to reduce damage when Divine Plea is up which should be 100% of the time.
I used Seal of Wisdom until 71 then I switched to Seal of Vengeance, mana not a problem.
Grats to all. I dinged 75 last night so I finally have Shield of Righteousness so tonight I will be queuing up for The Nexus and hopefully this time it wont be a major tank fail.
I know! We had to pug a fifth for both runs, which worked out fine but wasn’t as much fun as a full guild run. The first time through we had a 64 DK who dinged 65 inside, which kept me on my toes aggro-wise. The second time we had a 59 feral Druid.
This is what I do, too, at 62. In fact last night with Seal of Wisdom up I was doing so well with mana I switched to Vengeance - which was a mistake, I quickly ran out again and had to switch back.
One of these days I’ll make it back to one of these things. I’ve had Rumpole cooling his heels to let you guys catch up a bit =).
