World of Warcraft General Discussion

Horde or Alliance, just to doublecheck? I’m told that the Horde version trumps the Alliance version in terms of awe inspiring, but I haven’t gotten my Ally toon to Outland yet, nevermind NR. I know I got goosebumps. Bhrr.

Same cinematic for both factions (I’ve done it on both my human and belf pallies).

As far as I know Quasi all items that you pick up have 100% durability so never need to be repaired no matter what they’re called. However when you die all your gear, including stuff in your bags, takes a durability hit so this is probably what has happened to you previously that has required repairs before selling. You’re obviously a lot harder to kill these days, good work

Congratulations Mister Rik for your dungeon achievements.

So picking Frenzeyheart or Oracles in the Basin is a bit of a lottery then. There I am fighting a big boss type fella and suddenly attacked by my two former ‘friends’ who I promptly go and try to kill. It seems that which one I don’t kill will be my friend, how was I supposed to know that? I am a pally tank I was Consecrating and Hammer-ing both of them it’s what I do!

I did it – say hello to newly dinged 80 Sagan the Holy paladin.

How long does it typically take to hit 80? Assuming a couple of hours a day running round questing?

It depends on how good you are of course.
When I recently rerolled to my orc warrior, I started from scratch, no heirlooms, no gold etc, but I did get some help with a few elite quests(most of them in Nagrand) and a handful of instance boost from my friends. I got to level 80 in 10 days /played, but I spent time on making gold as well(had epic flying at 70 and 6k gold in my pocket when I dinged 80), if I had focused on just getting to level 80 asap it would’ve gone slightly faster.
Of course, I already had six level 80’s at that point so I knew my way around the game, which speeds things up considerably.
On my first character(a druid) it took me 20 days /played to get to level 60(which was the level cap) but leveling was slower back then.

But really, if it’s you first character don’t worry about it, take you time and enjoy exploring the game world, you only level your first character once.

whats /played? Is that actual play timevs days lapsed? ie. at 2 hours a day, 12 real world days would pass to get 1 day /played?

Oh sorry, yes, it’s actual play time, so I spent 240 hours total in front of the computer to get my warrior to level 80, /played is the ingame command to display it.

That makes sense. I thought you meant 10 days elapsed time, like from Feb 1st - Feb 10th, and I was somewhat aghast that lvl 80 was achievable in such a time frame when I have only made 27.

“Quasi-Time” or “Normal-Player Time”?

It usually takes me 2 days to do one level these days, since I am not sitting in front of the computer for 12 hours at a time anymore.

I tend to get killed a lot (I know this is because I don’t always remember to “health-up” after a kill, and when I DO remember and I make Wolkie eat something, sometimes when a critter passes within sight, I forget and hit an arrow key to follow his path and he of course stands up then:rolleyes:), so it does take me longer since I often choose to get rezzed by a healer rather than find the corpse. Sometimes the corpse is easy to find, but sometimes it is tantalizingly close and I keep hitting mountains and I either find the healer or use “stuck character”, and then return to the healer.

So my purpose in answering you is to show how NOT to play, but that this is okay with me and I do get a LOT of help from all my gurus here.

Important question: Should I go back to Goldshire and challenge some lower levels to a duel now? Do I get any XP for that?

What I wanted to do is whisper to someone and ask to duel and then let them beat us the next time so that they can get some XP?

I think there’s an app for that, because one of my former in-game gurus let us do that and Wolkie got credit for winning that one duel.

Thanks

Q

Whilst I think on - Arenas

Where can they be found, and why bother?

Total time played: 41 days, 0 hours, 31 minutes, 45 seconds

Played at level 66: 7 hours 33 minutes 31 seconds, and I’m at 58% to 67.

Q

I’d get more play time in if it wasn’t for my wife also decidign she quite likes to play. Now the unreasonable woman expects me to make way for her to play too! The things I do for love!

You get an Achievement for the first duel you win, but no XP. Most high levels challenge low levels to duels to beat the lowbies - so they’re being jerks.

No, do not do this, duels are only for fun and fighting duels where one side has no chance of winning isn’t much fun is it? No one gains any XP for fighting duels, the credit you got was only an Achievement, but that is just cosmetic, and utterly lame if isn’t gained by winning a fair duel.

At level 80, the arenas is where the competitive pvp happen in WoW, if you and your arena team make it to the top you get a title, a mount and bragging rights at the end of the arena season(and if you don’t make it to the top you can still get some pvp gear while trying).

As to where the Arenas are, Quasi, an arena promoter goblin is with the rest of the battlemasters wherever they are in your city. In Stormwind, I believe that’s in the Palace.

I think I’ve more or less finished Westfall now. I have moved on to the area to the East of Elwynn Forest (can’t remember the name). I wouldn’t be anything like the right level if I hadn’t gained 4 or 5 levels in Darkshore. I have a nagging suspicion I have somehow missed a ton of quests somewhere.

You’re almost always going to miss a ton of quests while you’re leveling up. There are multiple zones that are appropriate for the same levels, and you can’t really do them all simultaneously.

I still remember when I was somewhere in the 60s on one of my toons, and entering Searing Gorge, thinking “Wow! I totally missed this place when I was level-appropriate!” If you’re talking about missing quests in Westfall, there are really only three (I think) quest hubs there…Sentinel Hill, for one, the lighthouse off the southwest coast, and the farming couple on the road as you come in from Elwynn. If you didn’t do Deadmines at-level, remember that it’s probably good for at least a level or two of XP itself. There’s also a quest you pick up in Stormwind (in the Town Hall at Cathedral Square) from a city planner to go get his first drafting compass in a farmstead (now overrun with Defias) in Westfall.

But yes, if you’re around levels 15-20, you’re the right range for Redridge Mountains (the zone you mention east of Elwynn).

haven’t done dead mines. Are instances solo-able or do I need a group? If group am i better using the random dungeon tool and hoping for dead mines?

Did manage to do the drafting compass one.

I am lvl 19 human warrior with this toon. Should I pop by Deadmines for the xp, achievement and equipmemnt drops?

You need a group to do dungeons. Most of the mobs in dungeons are elites. I would suggest you try to pick up a group and do Deadmines at-level. There are some nice drops for your level in there, along with a couple of pets only available there (some parrot and Siamese cat).

There’s also the chicken quest, which nets you not only a chicken pet but some XP (I think). Go to Saldean’s farm and talk to Farmer Saldean. Ask to see what he has to sell. Buy the special chicken feed. Go target one of his chickens (pick one on the right side of Saldean as you’re facing his house…the ones on the other side get killed by coyotes fairly frequently and that interrupts the quest). Make a macro that’s simply /chicken. Spam this macro near the targeted chicken until the chicken turns from neutral (yellow targeting circle) to friendly (green targeting circle). You should be able to right-click the chicken and get a quest from it then. Accept the quest, then right-click the chicken again. Complete the quest (the special chicken feed will automatically be given to the chicken) and the chicken will lay an egg. Pick up the egg, then go to it in your bags and right click to use it. You’ll learn to summon a Westfall chicken.

Horde can do this too, exactly the same way, in Brill (except the feed vendor is named William Saldean and is right beside the blacksmith building).

Okay, message received and understood on the duelling thing. (I’ve been routinely turning them down anyway).

jayjay, your mention of The Red Ridge Mountain quests made me smile.

I remember going up that road when I was a level 8 or 9, and some guy came running past me and laughed at Wolkie’s name, and then he did what I can only describe as a “double-take”, came running back and asked, “What are you doing here??? You’ll get killed!”

I told him I was trying to get to Iron Forge - whereupon he stood there in silence for a few seconds, then took pity on me and told me to get to Stormwind and catch the tram.

Iron Forge remains one of my least favorite places to quest, and I am glad I am done there. It’s just too damn dark in there and I tend to get disoriented really quick.
