Darn it. That’s just mean. I was on my level 80 druid, I came into town from the river, shortest path possible in to talk to the Elder, and some level 40 guard gets honked off and makes me get flagged - so not fair.
Oh, and I should not get flagged by “mystery aggro” just for standing on the far side of the boat at the docks in Darkshore. I was shown as being in combat, even though no guards seemed to be “active”.
I swear I remember that as being different. I seem to remember it being that as long as you did no damage to an NPC, you wouldn’t flag for PvP if they started whaling on you. Then this holiday came up and suddenly I’m flagging for PvP whenever an NPC hits me.
I ran into the throne room at Ironforge last night to give King Bronzebeard a little Valentine gift mere minutes after a Horde raid had killed him. His corpse hadn’t even evaporated yet. Two hours of alt+tabbing out to waste time elsewhere and alt+tabbing in about every fifteen minutes ensued. Not fun at all.
For some period of time after the other faction wins, the big door to the inner room where the entrance to VOA is located remains open. You can fly in, get the elder and take the portal out to Dalaran. If the elder is defended, that’s a problem, but no different than getting the ones in the opposite faction’s cities.
I got the Elder there yesterday, though Horde had the keep.
Hm. It must have closed faster than 5 minutes, since I was in Dalaran just now and Alliance had won WG 5 minutes before I flew out to have a look. Thanks for the tip though, I’ll have to try again this afternoon.
The Wintergrasp keep door is only “open” if it’s been destroyed by the offense team. If it’s half damaged you can probably fly in the crack in the top, also. If defense won with a shut-out then you won’t be able to get through, regardless. If you’re really desperate to get to the Elder you could probably blow it up with engineering bombs between battles, too.
That said, due to the way Wintergrasp throws increasing assists at the attacking faction every time they lose an attack, even the most pathetically hopeless side tends to trade WG two or three times a day.
At the end of the one WG battle I participated in, I watched Alliance roll an honest-to-god column of siege vehicles and outriders through WG. Seriously, they had two vehicles paired up with two infantry riding along on mounts, and like four of these squads were rolling along destroying everything in their path. Whatever Alliance group regularly plays WG on Emberstorm, they’re coordinated as hell and Horde is incredibly demoralized.
I recognize that I really shouldn’t be griping without doing something about it, so as poor as my gear is for a level 80, I will try to fight in WG when I can later this week.
Ok folks, I figure I should be able to get a good answer from this group…
I’m leveling my first toon - dinged 66 last night on my Ret Pally.
I have been doing the charm bracelets every day (mostly in just IF and SW), and have about 120 of the Love Charms (look like a heart box). What’s a good way to spend those things???
After reading what you guys said about the number of good RandomDF vs. bad RandomDF, I kept track last night. I ran 5 heroics:
Great group in Draktharon Keep. Four-manned after a DC.
Another good group in Old Kingdom. No wipes, but I died* once.
Semi-good group in Azul-Nerub.
Great group in Utgarde Keep.
Bad group in Nexus.
So 80% were good. I should probably mention that, despite my bitching, I am in love with the Random DF.
*This was done on my wife’s mage and I was overnuking. After 3 years of nothing but melee classes, I wanted to try something with more pew pew. Mrs. Foma let me log on to her account to get it out of my system.
So, you mean 120 of the Love Tokens, right? Not the charms, which have that heart-gem-shaped icon and can be turned into bracelets.
Well, you can only spend tokens on the items that the holiday vendor is selling. You can decide if you want to go for the holiday achievements, which means you’ll need to buy things like the pet, the suit or dress, and (I think) bags of candy. Probably some other stuff… I did the achievements last year so I’ve kind of forgotten them all.
If you want useful stuff, the cologne/perfume provide pretty good buffs. I’m not sure you’ll be able to use them after the holiday is over, though… I’ve heard they will disappear, but the description doesn’t say they will. Also the pet is kind of fun, if you like vanity pets.
Also, is the reason I didn’t get any quests in Northrend because I’m not a high enough level? I mean, I landed in the keep, but no yellow exclamation marks whatsoever anywhere I saw.
We’re currently 66 and 27% on the way to 67. We’ve been getting a lot of decent drops lately, and although I don’t sell them in AH (mostly sell netherweave cloths there), when I sell to the vendor across the street in SW, I usually get a pretty decent amount of g’s, which is good.
Also, I am finding that I’m not having to repair any of those dropped armor items anymore, even though they’re described as “rusty musket”, etc.
I’ve very few issues with any randoms mostly because (my WAG) I usually do most of them later at night when the kiddies are in bed because of school. I usually go on every other night around 11pm PST (1am Cairne time), get those 2 frosties before the 3am witching hour on Cairne, and then do another frost run right off the bat so I can get 4 frosts in about 2 hours time with other stuff in between like holiday quests, mining and other Yeti chicanery.
Another note: We tried to Kill the Prophet Velen…with a group of 20 and about 7 of us weren’t even lvl 80. Also, we spent way too much time (waiting for raid organizer to find more healers) outside of the backdoor entrance…giving the Alliance enough time to mass a decent defensive stance. Got Velen down 30% before we started dropping like flies. I did manage to hearth out of there before the campers found me. That was the only good thing about that raid.
How does the Shadowfang apothecaries (for Love Is In The Air) work? Does one person in the party serving him suffice for everyone? Or do you have to do the fight for everyone individually?
Yeah, it works like Brewfest, one summons per round for the 5 people in the party.
You get a group of 5 people who have summons, run into SFK and stop off at the goblin to get the Subpoena quest. Remember to open the bag to get the two pots and the document. The pots are important and your healer will love you for using them appropriately.
Each player picks a pot, usually the color that Apoth. Hummel is wearing, then you take turns serving the subpoena > killing them all > looting. (Remember to change pots after you’ve killed Hummel and are mashing the second guy’s face in, third guy is just a pita because he lacks an aggro table)
And yep, Emberstorm Alliance are organized AND have the weight of numbers. Sucks to be us.
Those Shadowfang apothecaries tick me off. I’ve run it five or six times, just hoping for the pet (or, in my wildest dreams, the rocket). I’ve seen the pet drop twice but lost the rolls. I kind of wish there was other loot besides the necklaces he drops. Nothing too OP but something fun.
I did get the Heartbreaker, which is at least interesting. But yesterday nothing dropped except necklaces.
I finally went back and did Wrathgate on my 80 DK (I’d pretty much skipped Wintergarde Keep completely when I was leveling). Wow! I was stunned by the cutscene! That’s possibly the greatest quest line in the entire game.
