And I say this as someone who once thought it would be “faster” to run straight through the Horde town on the road in eastern Ferelas. headdesk
I should have just turned around the first time the guards killed me, but I’m very, very stubborn, so I just kept plowing through, a few yards at a time. :smack:
Back when I did the exploration achievement a couple of months ago I could not find a spot anywhere on the outside of the city that gave me the credit. That’s not to say they don’t exist, just that I looked pretty extensively and couldn’t get it myself.
I think that’s how I eventually did it, using the rear entrance to the city.
Ferret Herder - On the alliance side, I am a guild officer. It’s an easy “job” because the guild leaders keep an eye on things. I’ve never even had to boot (gkick) anyone because they were already on top of things. On the horde side, I am the guild master. My members know the rules and they are simple. Rule Number One is simply “don’t be a jerk”. PvP is fine, but don’t grief lowbies for hours on end. Loot is good, but don’t be a loot ninja. Simple basic things that we shouldn’t even have to telll anyone. I only had one instance where someone wanted to be a “shit house lawyer”. I told him I didn’t have the time or interest to play word games and quibble over semantics, and if he wanted to start looking for nits and loopholes maybe he needed to leave the guild. I told him it’s my guild and I decide what’s OK or not OK, and no one else. No one else had ever had any problem with the idea of “don’t be a jerk”. I figure, the sort of people who go looking for ways around the rules because of some obsure situation or the wording, I don’t want to deal with because they’re just a problem waiting to happen. Other than that, it’s all been good. TwistofFate - Love that Beeftain title. I’ve been thinking about renaming my tauren. You mind if I “steal” that?
The problem is, WoW announces it automatically. I took up fishing at level 80, and it was really embarrassing when the achievement popped up and all the guildies started in on me. The “autogratzers” all sent a standard message. Everyone else had the sarcasm on cue.
There seems to be some confusion. I did get “Discovered: Silvermoon City” — and thus the meta achievements — by running (riding, actually) straight through the front gate (“Shepherd Gate”). But the city guards knocked me off my horse and stun-locked me as I tried to escape. Before riding through the gate I was unsuccessful with the “hug the outer wall” technique.
Actually, to get to Eversong I only had to ride from the Zul’Aman FP in Ghostlands, which I discovered a couple weeks ago* when a troll in Shattrath sent me there. Also, the spirit healers in graveyards seem to be faction-neutral, so once I died in Silvermoon I just rezzed at the belf graveyard a couple hundred yards away, healed up, and finished exploring the zone. The only Hordie I encountered while I still had the rez sickness was a lvl 12 belf, and even with the rez sickness I don’t think he wanted to mess with a lvl 72.
I could have explored Eversong, Tirisfal, Durotar, and Bloodmyst Isle and gotten the meta achievements a long time ago, but I have lowbie belf, undead, orc/troll, and draenei alts in those zones and deliberately chose to let those toons explore their starting zones first so as not to spoil any surprises. Every other “old world” zone had been explored legitimately by my paladin while questing. Though I had actually been holding off on finishing exploring Deadwind Pass, because I had a clear memory of getting killed by a lvl 70 elite buzzard when I tried to wander toward Kharazan (sp?) back around lvl 40. So when I went there at lvl 72 I was surprised to discover those buzzards are only non-elite lvl 55s. I think my mistake was due to the buzzards showing up the first time as “Level ??”, and later learning that Kharazan is a lvl 70+ dungeon. My memory put the two together and came up with level 70 elite buzzards.
I got a weird whisper while I was in Borean Tundra doing those quarry quests just up the road from the D.E.H.T.A. encampment. Some guy whispered to ask my spec, so I answered “ret”, then he asked if I wanted to DPS Utgarde Keep. “Not tonight” I replied. Then I checked my map because I didn’t even know where UK was. Saw it was in Howling Fjord and whispered back to the guy, “Heh. I haven’t even been to that zone yet.” But what was weird was when I clicked the guy’s name and saw that he was whispering me from Shattrath. Why the heck is somebody looking for a UK group in Shattrath?
When I am leveling in Outland, I set my hearth to the nearest Inn. (Let’s say Honor Hold.) When it’s time to go see the class trainer, I fly to Shatt, and have my pick of cities to go train in, and vist the AH. Then I hearth back to Honor Hold.
Alternately: Set hearth to Shatt. When you hit a new level in Outland, fly to Shatt, tlelport to the Old World for training, hearth back to Shatt.
Maybe he hasn’t reset his hearth stone yet. Maybe he went to Shatt to do Children’s Week.
Heh, my repair bill these days is over 10g just for a single death (10% durability to just what I’m wearing). I don’t want to think about 25% on everything in my bags (tanking set plus DPS set), which is why I guess I didn’t even think about “die and rez at the spirit healer” option. Duh.
You know, I never thought they were 70, but I **did **think they used to be elite (took a wrong turn going into Swamp of Sorrows when I was… whatever level would be questing in the swamp). I know there are plenty of other things in the old world that were elite when I was questing in their respective areas originally and aren’t now; I think the buzzards might be another example of that. (If someone wants to check and see if there are comments on Wowhead or Thottbot, I think the specific mob name is “Sky Shadow”–I can’t get to anything overtly gaming-related from work.)
Maybe he wasn’t able to get up into Dalaran yet to set his hearth there, in which case Shatt would give him easy access to either SW for the boat to BT or IF for the Menethil boat to the Fjord. (Plus the cities themselves for the AH if he doesn’t have a bank toon.) Oh, and the next time someone asks if you want to run UK, say yes–it’s laughably easy. The summoning stone is indoors and you can hearth out after, so you won’t see any of the surrounding zone if you don’t want to.
ETA: I also like the “Children’s Week” explanation. Or he could be grinding BC faction rep for achievements or mounts.
Or dress funny. That’s more entertaining. Put a dress on your male orc. Put a tuxedo on your female belf. Wear nothing but a kilt and huge shoulder pads.
A lot of mobs that used to be elite aren’t anymore. You darned kids have it so easy. Back in my day…
Nope. When you die, it only affects the durability on your equipped gear. When you have a spirit healer rez you, all gear you have on you, including in your bags, takes a hit.
We had to run *on foot *from Booty Bay *all the way up to the north end *of STV, where we had to *kill the goddamn Kurzen Medicine Men *to get our effing Jungle Remedy. (Okay, I’m not sure that quest actually came from a BB NPC as opposed to one further north, but I do know that I spent *so much time *pounding up and down the length of that stupid zone…)
Few changes have made me as happy on my alts as (a) mounts at 30 and (b) the Rebel Camp STV FP.
Presumably, it’s there to stop people from getting naked, dying, and then rezzing at the spirit healer without taking the damage penalty, to encourage you to go back and get your corpse.
Holy crap, I just participated in my first raid. A group of 15 (3 80s, a few 77-78s, and the rest mid 60s) ran AQ20. It was a chaotic but neat experience. We never really were in any danger of wiping, and the only slight hiccup I had was getting chewed out by a lowbie cause I accidently hit need instead of greed once–which was for an idol my class could use anyways. roll eyes
Grumble. My 23 holy priest + 28 arms warrior 2manning SFK. We were doing all right…up until Arugal polymorphed the warrior and had her eat my face.
I’d been so busy healing/dispelling and Smiting that I was like “oh, another worgen,” and didn’t realize I should be running faster than I was. headdesk I really would like to have his robes. Sigh.
I know what y’all mean about the achieve announcements – I certainly got given a hard time when I finally sent my hunter around to solo WC about 30 levels later since my pugs had always stopped before summoning Mutanus.
BTW, I’ve been sharing the crack with a friend, but oddly enough, she’s unable to even **find **the name of my server in the list when creating a character. It wasn’t down – I know this because I was on it at the time. Has anyone experienced this?
You’ll understand it when you run into some jerk who “accidentally” rolls need on something that’s an up for you. If you ever accidentally roll need on anything, the proper response is to immediately start gushing apologies (and offer to open a GM ticket to get the item transferred if it’s actually something worthwhile).
Are you sure your friend is spelling the server the right way, and that when she’s looking, she’s sorting by server name? (They’re not sorted by alpha as a default–Blizz puts the ones it recommends for you at the top.) Even a “locked” server will show up on the list.
