Plus, it’s the troof. For me, anyway.
But think about this y’all: What if I had named the guild, “Slightly Retarded” or “Slightly Mentally Challenged”. Now what? ![]()

I’ve been told that Clique is a sweet addon, but I’ve only found really limited usefulness in it. I used to have a macro that would cast MD or Tricks of the Trade on my focus (depending on the toon, of course) and one of the last couple of patches broke my simple little macro. I started using Clique for that purpose, but sometimes I just want to click on a player’s frame without it casting some stupid spell on it.
Also, do you use clique for healing? I’ve been using HealBot for a couple of months on my shammy, and I’m pretty happy with it. Does Clique have some advantages that I’m just missing?
I’d say that “demented” has moved into common parlance in the same way that “idiot” and “moron” have–both of those used to be clinical definitions in the same way “retarded” currently is.
IME, it’s mainly useful for healers–I don’t know anyone who uses it who isn’t one.
ETA: I think the big distinction in between people who expect to mainly be taking combat actions against friendly targets (healers) versus those who will mainly be acting on hostile targets (tanks and DPS). Clique is especially good for the former group because (a) you have the unit frames right there and (b) there are no LOS issues (in terms of which way you’re facing) and fewer range ones.
Bah. You tell them that they can stuff their complaints about your guild name. Slightly Demented is not even remotely offensive to any reasonable person. Probably not even to a demented person.
DON’T click that link! It doesn’t go where it says it goes! Reported for misleading link.
Healbot does pretty much exactly what Grid + Clique do, it’s just a little less customizable (but works better out of the box).
And like Guns says, the less you need to target your teammates, the less use you’ll find for Clique or Healbot. I’ve gotten used to using Grid instead of the default unit frames, so I have it up regardless of what class I’m playing, but it really only comes into play on my healers. My mage, for example, really only needs Grid to see who has aggro, curses, lack of Arcane Intellect, Dampen/Amplify Magic, and Focus Magic. A Hunter, Rogue, or Warrior would have even less use for it, but I think everyone has at least one ally-targeted ability.
(Also, if you decide to play with Grid, get Clicksets. It’s a variant of Clique written to integrate with Grid. Vastly easier to configure than Clique itself.)
Besides my healer, mainly it’s useful for me on my tank, so I can at-a-glance see who in the group has aggro. But it’s also useful on some boss encounters, if you have boss debuff displays enabled–e.g., for seeing who on BQL hasn’t been bitten yet, if you’re not using an addon to assign bites.
They do regen in combat, although I believe that it’s not an important feature in most combats (WoW combat before endgame bosses not usually being a hugely drawn-out affair). It’s neccessary to raiding that they come back in long fights, though, and maybe in some arena battles, too.
Yeah, there’s that too. Grid can be set up to display damn near every buff or debuff on a player in any way you want it to be shown. It’s really pretty awesome.
*Is *it necessary? After all, potions are now limited to one use per combat. Granted, it might be different with a class mechanic, but there’s something to be said for requiring strategic use of the best CDs.
Well, now I’m not sure. I’m see conflicting info on this now. It would mean that shards could be almost totally meaningless in raid bosses, because even a fairly substantial DPS boost won’t matter much if it’s only for a moment. It’s kind of like Kill Shot for Hunters - don’t get me wrong, I love it, but it’s ultimately not a big DPS boost and really only important for boses with a harsh rage timer or other late-battle “obliterate the party” mechanic.

Please note “stickies”?
All those contain instructions given to me by my SDMB gaming buds!
Thanks!

Hey! We have the exact same headphones!
Yikes! Looks like SOMEBODY needs to buy a new mousepad!
Thanks

Of course, I would never fall for a trick like that, nosirree … :smack:
Yay! Heroic Utgarde Pinnacle! King’s Bane!
Yay! Heroic Nexus!
Yay! Heroic Halls of Stone! Brann Spankin’ New!
Got enough Triumphs to pick up my new pants, too ![]()
Or words to that effect.
At the time I saw that message, I had put 5 g in the bank (just shortly after it was chartered), so I added 5 more and I haven’t seen the message since and I’ve added 5-10 g’s pretty much on a regular basis (although no one in my guild seems to be helping themselves to any of it) and right now, our funds stand at 50g.
So what’s up with that, kiddos?
Looking at my guild list, it appears that not many of them have played a lot since signing on, leading me to believe they’re young’uns who have to answer to Mom and Dad and keep their grades up. Have I got that sussed pretty much correctly, y’all?
Sooooo. I’ve gone out on a another recruitment drive. (I’ve picked up about half my members in the wee hours, btw). This is okay, right? And I just go to the trade channel and write an announcement or to Goldshire and the Northshire Abbey. SW, and do the same, choosing someone lower-level? (trying to remember how I did it last time).
On another subject, is it easier to pick up a pre-paid card and use it to extend my membership rather than have it deducted from my Visa debit?
I ask because right now, it’s costing me $14.99 a month (recurring on the card), but since we’re doing a little better with the finances, I could go 3 months at a time now. My problem is how in the hell to change it from monthly to quarterly online, or do I need to call billing myself to change this?
Thanks

I like it – green fire yay! ![]()
The new Soul Shard mechanic is much needed, they are a pain more than anything, but I am also looking forward to this:
Metamorphosis will no longer be subject to demonic crowd control. Furthermore, abilities available only while under the effects of Metamorphosis will be altered to put more emphasis on the warlock’s own spells.
I’ve only had Meta for 2 levels but I don’t use the demon form abilities much at all, immolation aura every now and then but I never demon charge or taunt. Here’s hoping we are expected to use the same Warlock spells when in demon form but we just get a boost. An extra special boost to the new level 85 spell seems very appropriate:
Demon Soul (level 85): Fuses the warlock’s soul with his or her demon. This provides warlocks with a self-burst cooldown to use. The specific effects granted by Demon Soul depend on the demon chosen. Demon Soul lasts for a certain number of charges or until it expires (around 20 seconds), depending on the demon used. 2-minute cooldown.
Though compared to Shaman I think the warlock changes are minor, this new ability that Shaman’s may get:
Healing Rain (level 83): An area-effect heal-over-time (HoT) spell that calls down rain in a selected area, healing all players within it. There is no limit to the number of players who can potentially be affected; however, there are diminishing returns when healing a large number of targets, much like the diminishing returns associated with AoE damage spells. This should give Restoration shaman another healing tool that improves their group-healing and heal-over-time capabilities. 2-second cast time. 30-yard range. 10-second duration. 10-second cooldown.
Shows Blizzard are making some major changes to healing so dare I hope for a Holy Paladin AoE heal? A version of consecrate that heals maybe? April 16th can’t come soon enough.
The priest changes are finally up. My favorite by far:
It’s the anti-Death Grip!
I also like the changes they’re making to haste + DoTs and HoTs.
And finally, something I’ve always wanted: a movement speed buff. It can’t be used with Inner Fire, so it will mostly only be used out of combat, but that’s all I wanted.
Also, Power Word: Barrier as a party-wide shield. Nice! It looks like they’re also boosting the priest’s ability to single-target heal, especially for Disc, which is good.
And I don’t go Shadow much, but this sounds fun too:
Posters are already calling them “shadow balls.”
Oh, I almost forgot (for good reason): the BDL run of Sethekk Halls last night did not go swimmingly.
Firstly, some of our regulars were absent, so we had to pug a couple of DPS. They weren’t bad, but it made me a little more self-conscious about tanking an unfamiliar instance.
Secondly: my goodness, there is a lot of fearing going on in there. And it made me long for my Undead priest, who has both Will of the Forsaken and Fear Ward. We wiped at least twice, I think, from getting feared into other mobs.
Thirdly: We made it to Talon King Ikiss, but I lost track of how many times we wiped on him. At least four, maybe five. Twice we got him down very very low in health, but he kept mana-draining me. Each time I was the last man standing but with just auto-attacks I couldn’t outlast him. We had a couple of dps drop in frustration and rotated some others in, but it was always the same.
I was thinking about it afterward, and here is what I’ll do differently next week:
– use Crowd Control. We had a priest, and many of the mobs were undead; we should have been shackling one prior to each pull.
For the Talon King, apparently he puts a debuff on the tank that drains mana: I need to find out if it’s dispellable by the priest. We would have taken him down if I had any mana left at the end of the fight.
Oh well, it was a good learning experience. Next week we’ll try again.
Well, I’m back in the saddle again (or will be in a few more levels, anyway). Makig the mighty orc hunter is the newest member of the Burning Dog Legion.
I’m having fun learning the game over again and appreciate the upgrades to the base UI (trash prices displayed, improved quest interface). Now if only I could run faster :). Right now I’m mulling over whether or not I want to pay for a character transfer.
Well, see y’all in the game.
