World of Warcraft General Discussion

Lots of good times on my main this weekend:

25-man Sindragosa down. After wiping for a few hours finally decided to boost the number of healers (since we were way ahead of the enrage timer) and got her down. Got a pull on the LK and got through Phase 1, so we’ll start working on him in earnest very soon.

10-man Kingslayer! Worked out the kinks, figured out the movement, and finally killed the Lich King. Now it’s on to heroic modes.

Besides Marrowgar and Lootship, does anyone have recommendations on which 10-man heroic modes should be attacked first. How bad is LDW? I’d really like to get my hands on that trinket or bow… The end bosses also drop tokens, right? How bad is Saurfang?

Hrm, maybe he’s still there but you can’t get the reins to drop if you miss the timer, then. Or something. But it would be a big Infinite Dragonkin dude just standing in the middle of the road, after the last gauntlet (you’d run past the entrance to where Mal’Ganis is).

(a) Unless they changed something, you can vote out someone who’s DC’d pretty quickly after they DC. No longer than a minute or two. You definitely don’t have to wait the whole 15 minutes.

(b) You don’t get the extra debuff if they kick you or if you’re the last person left. So either get yourself kicked or just wait 'til everyone else has given up.

What level/spec? My mid-40s hunter is BM, and if I peel off a pet (even a Ferocity one, vs. a Tenacity that’d have better aggro generation) the mob is so close to dead that it’ll be down by the time it gets too close for me to keep shooting it. And that’s with using specials every time they’re off CD.

Woohoo! Grats on the kills!

dinged on 51 and got my 1st sight of the Dark Portal (was huntig hel boars) I was attacked by a level 57 servant of rak something or other. got it down to no health, but it didnt die, I just got a message about striking a binding stone in its chest. What do I need to do there?

Ah. Well for now, avoid the Servants of whatchamacallit in that zone. There’s a quest from a ghost at the entry to the zone (think he’s Hero of the Horde or something) that involves killing those guys. You need to destroy the special stone that they’re near to be able to kill them, and I think you have to have the quest to destroy the stone.

Congratulations on both!

Marrowgar: Kind of a pain but not too bad. The trick is to position your tanks (and maybe one other, like a hunter) at the farthest points from Marrowgar during Bonestorm, so he’ll go after them first. Keep ranged and melee inside his hit box so spikes are easy to deal with during normal phase.

LDW: A pain in the neck. I’d recommend saving her until you get a bit better geared, but if your group is good, go for it. Much easier on 10 than 25.

Gunship: Heh. Our alt 10 man group got Lootship on heroic (we had one person in the group with Kingslayer so he unlocked it for us).

Saurfang: A pain unless you’ve got good DPS and very good healers. Yes, the end bosses drop tokens.

Rotface and Festergut: Probably the easiest except for Gunship. For Festergut, tank him in the middle of the room. Spread your ranged out on the opposite wall from Putricide, and designate one person as the “Goo” caller. Put all your melee and healers on one of Fester’s feet, and have them move as a group to the other foot when Goo is called. Tanks just have to be healed through it. Ranged need to watch for the little goo puddle and move away from it. Imperative that you get inoculated–missing even one is almost certain death. For Rotface, you just have to keep your ranged out of melee range so the melee don’t get the Vile Gas or whatever it is.

Putricide: Hard. Requires a high degree of situational awareness to keep the plague moving around properly. We haven’t gotten this one yet but we’re making good progress. Probably this week.

Blood Princes: Pain in the ass. The orbs are deadly if they hit the ground, the flame orbs are deadly if they hit somebody without being siphoned, and you can’t move freely because of stacks of Shadow Prison. Ugh. I hate this fight (usually because I get stuck on orb duty).

BQL: Not much harder than on normal. DPS requirement is higher, Bloodbolt Whirl is more deadly, and she tosses bloodbolts (non-deadly ones) throughout the fight. Otherwise it’s pretty much the same.

Dreamwalker: Not that bad on 10 if you have good healers who know what they’re doing.

Sindragosa: A pain. We haven’t gotten this one yet either. I can’t remember offhand what the different mechanic is, but you pretty much need some frost resist on everybody in the raid (not a lot, but even some will help your healers).

Lich King: No idea.

Oh–and good weekend for me too! Got Dreamwalker 25 HM, and my little paladin tank is actually getting rather decently geared after two runs through ICC10. I still can’t get over how much easier pally tanking is than DK!

Thanks for the info winterhawk. Seems to match up with our priority, save for LDW (was hoping she wasn’t that bad…).

Something like Lootship < Marrowgar < Festergut < Rotface < LDW < Saurfang < BQL < Dreamwalker…

I’d like to think our group is good, but it’s hard to compare. We got the LK down in 3 raid days (about 8 hours total I’d say). Our raid DPS on Festergut is 60k (DPS classes all between 9.2k and 9.8k). Whether that’s enough to down the Blood Beasts in time (for example), well, I guess we’ll find out!

I’m guessing some (most?) of these fights require 3 healers on heroic though, right?

ETA: Grats to you too! I’ve run my DK tank through ICC10 three times now, and have zero loot to show for it (well, one emblem piece I guess)… :frowning:

Okay, maybe we didn’t fight him yesterday. I got CoS for my first random again today, and we fought him, and now I think I didn’t see him yesterday. Anyway, we got him down and I got my Bronze Drake  I think I was the only one in the party who didn’t have it already, cuz everybody else passed on the roll.

Today’s run went quickly and smoothly, and I made sure to compliment the tank afterward - he did a damn fine job. I told him it took three tanks to get through there yesterday, and he said, “But I have the power of FOUR tanks!” :stuck_out_tongue:

Anywhere up to 50, so far. Mainly a problem of too many special attacks to early in the fight, before my pet can fully establish threat.

Of course, the biggest problem I have with hunters is remembering to always select targets with a left-click, as opposed to the right-click I use for everything else. If I right-click in range, I start shooting before I send my pet in, and that causes a bit of scrambling with the mob coming right after me …

Fester and Rot are easier than Saurfang, IMO. BQL is too.

Some of them definitely do. Not sure about most–I don’t honestly pay that much attention to what’s going on with the healers. I know having at least one hybrid who’s got good gear for healing and DPS is quite nice.

As far as the Blood Beasts go, it’s not so much having the DPS to down them as keeping them under control. If you have a lock he/she can stun them just as they pop, and shamans and other knockback classes are gold in this encounter. Hunters with frost traps are good too, but the knockback gives you the extra time you need to kill them. They are deadly in HM–one hit will kill pretty much anybody in your raid.

Also, you cannot lose any mark targets. If you do, it’s a wipe. Anything a mark target can do to help the healers is appreciated, especially when they get Blood Boil on top of the mark–for example, mages can iceblock through the BB when they have both. Yeah, you lose the DPS, but that’s less important than letting them die.

Thanks! It was fun. I got stuck on DPS (my main spec is tank) which I didn’t like because my DPS gear is not that good, but I rolled offspec on DPS gear and ended up with 2 pieces of that, plus one tank piece (the mace off Marrowgar, to go with the shield I got last week from Gunship) and my Honored level AV ring. All in all not a bad run, and now at least my DPS set is half decent if I end up having to do it again next week.

The Servant of [XYZ] mobs in that zone are all part of a quest. They cannot be killed unless you have the quest, because only when you have the quest can you destroy their respective stones, which will then allow you to kill them. (Each mob has a stone floating around somewhere nearby.) The quest has been buggy for a while, so watch out if you try it. (Sometimes you just can’t click on the stones.)

You remember to have Growl on autocast, right? I know the only time I have aggro problems is when I’ve just come out of an instance and I’ve forgotten to put it back on.

I have done this more times than I would care to admit… :o

w00t! First time in H:ToC, and I picked up a nice weapon upgrade: Edge of Ruin!

Now I just need to finish leveling my 2h axe skill (at 375 right now).

Well, before you leave us, could you do me a favor and log jaejae in? I added some stuff to the guild vault that is appropriate for cooking/entry level, and I was wondering if that’s okay, or should I just concebtrate on gear (not that anyone’s actually taking any)?

I hope you stay.

Thanks

Q

OK, I rolled up a troll priest last night and got him up to level 7 or so…it’s been fun getting to know the ‘other side’ of the lore…

Who should I look for to give me an invite? Or should I just start picking names off of the Armory and start spamming people until someone responds?

Generally just do a /who Burning Dog and spam whoever shows up. They’ll know who to talk to.

Wow, today was the day for weapon upgrades! I mentioned upthread that I obtained Edge of Ruin in H:ToC this morning; tonight the RDF put me in H:FoS, and we continued on to H:PoS, where Tyrannus was kind enough to drop the Tyrannical Beheader for me  That was awfully fun getting those upgrades. I used the Titansteel Destroyer (iLvl 200) for a looooooong time, and eventually replaced it with the 2h sword, another iLvl 200 weapon, from the Argent Tournament just for a change of pace. Then in one day I go from 200 to 219 to 232. Schweet!

We continued on to H:HoR, but gave up after the second wipe. I dunno about the rest of y’all, but IMHO there is no “fun” element to that one. It’s sheer, unadulterated tedium and frustration. Everybody crammed into a little room while wave after wave after wave of mobs hammer on you. Including priests that instantly self-heal 50% of their HP every time I got them down to about 15k. I think I’ll avoid that one as much as possible. I got to see how the storyline played out when I did it on Normal difficulty; that’s good enough for me.

Anyway, I finished the day with 54 Emblems of Triumph (22 of them from the day before), so it was off to the vendor for new gear. I’d planned on getting Turalyon’s Helm of Conquest to go with the pants and gloves from the iLvl 232 set, but then I figured that since I’m not going to go for the 4-piece set bonus — my existing chest and shoulders are iLvl 245 and 264, respectively, so getting the Turalyon’s chest or shoulders would be a downgrade — and that helm is only a minor upgrade over my existing helm (226 -> 232), I decided instead to pick up an iLvl 245 trinket for the same price as the helm. And that, combined with my new weapon, finally got me the Epic achievement

ETA: Oh yes, and the Battered Hilt dropped in FoS. Priest won it. grumble

… falling in love with you little shit-asses!:):)

I don’t know who did it, but there were SOOOO many “grabs” in the vault when I just now looked, that I KNOW it HAD to be one of y’all!

I do so much appreciate y’all’s kindness to this ol’ delipidated piece of humanity!

Y’all (and you know who you are: too many to mention) just rock my world, and I thank Og that y’all have been here for me, through this whole role-playing thing which has meant so much to me.

I love it there. I truly do love it there.

Cheers on the kills!

winterhawk gave you good info overall, however, it’s a bad idea not to pay attention to your healers, 'cause they may stop paying attention to you

2.5 healing ICC-10 HM is pretty much necessary. Saurfang is a 2 healer fight, as the soft enrage of the Marks is too much for two healers to keep up effectively if you get more than 3 marks. Indestructible Potions are very helpful, especially for squishy mark targets. We blow Heroism/Bloodlust after the 2nd Mark goes out, and our last kill we only had 2 Marks go out. LDW is the other tough one of the first 4, but as long as the DPS know to prioritize adds, not pull off tanks and not get blown up by ghosts, you should be fine.

Professor Putricide is tough. I call the Unbound Plague/Plague Sickness for my group. You need someone who has good unit frames and can pay attention to the timers. I just set up the rotation, telling who to get the plague from the person that has it, but it’s up to the person that has it to let them know to take it from them (you want to have it for 12 seconds, so you call for someone to take it 9-10 seconds after you get it). Your DPS seems fairly solid, so the goo transitions should be fine, and you don’t have to worry about Ooze/Gas Variable in 10-man.

BPC is tougher than BQL, as the only thing that changes for BQL is that everything hits harder the more vampires you have. BPC is all about coordination, and the tank that takes the non-shadow princes (forget their names) gets hit HARD, so make sure your healers are on the ball for that. Otherwise, it’s about efficient movement and keeping kinetic orbs in the air.

Dreamwalker is also much harder. She continuously takes damage, so until your healers have 20+ stacks, her health won’t be going up by much, and then it will exponentially grow. It’s all about the outside group managing adds efficiently, and the healers who take the portals need to toss a few heals to the raid when they can to help out. Sindragosa has the added mechanic of Instability (the debuff casters get while casting with the Unchained Magic debuff) doing an Arcane AoE for 20 yards around them when it drops. Basically, we had it where the healer that got the debuff just dropped their Instability outside the raid clump then didn’t cast until UM came off. P2 is much harder, and sometimes RNG can screw you over (like a healer getting Frost Tomb and another with UM, leaving 1 effective healer). A very annoying fight, as it’s all about P2 and the rest of the fight is boring. Our melee also wore a piece of FrR gear to help minimize damage received from Chilled to the Bone.

Haven’t done HM LK yet. Getting our drakes this week and then we’ll be working on him until we get him down. Good luck in your raiding! Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Missed the edit window:

To more directly answer your question, Jas09: Lootship > Marrowgar > Rotface > Festergut > LDW > BQL > BPC > Dreamwalker > Saurfang > Sindragosa > PP > LK would be my suggested plan of attack. Though, depending on your healers you can probably do Saurfang earlier, if just for the chance at the tokens.

There are 4 or 5 tabs at the bottom of the guild vault window. One of them is called “Log”. If you click on that, you can see who put in or took out stuff.

If you level up quick, look up Laemadras. I’m on most evenings and I just started - I’m at 15. We can have hangy-outy-killy time.

Awesome, thanks for the info! That’s pretty much exactly what I typed in our guild forum, so it’s good to know that we are on the right track. I think I had LDW ahead of Festergut, but that’s mainly because I really like the loot from her.

A quick mechanics question, do you change the raid difficulty mode right before the boss, or can you leave it in “heroic” until you want a normal-mode boss? (i.e., the trash doesn’t scale as well, right?)

Good luck with the drakes, and with the LK Heroic!
