…2 new guildies!!! And one of 'em helped herself to what she needed from the vault (have y’all SEEN that thang lately???) and some gold.
She only picked 4 items I had put in there, but at least they were skills things and she could use 'em!
Plus, she completed an achievement I gratzed her on, and I told her (and my other guildie) I would be glad to leave NR and group with them at any time they needed me!
Last night was a succession of things that made me happy:
Won an auction on the jewelcrafting spellshock ring a big upgrade for me and it was cheap.
The Horde had wg for a change so got to attack – didn’t die once and was in the thick of the assault.
Grouped up with 3 guidly dps to do a random and we got put in Ahn’Kahet where I had struggled and failed before. New gear meant this was still hard but we made it, insanity is fun. Lost the tank once as I had Eyes in the Dark on me does anyone know how to get rid of that? I couldn’t cast anything for what seemed like ages
Queued up again and got Trial of the Champion a new instance for me. Success with no issues and the sweet healing mace dropped.
Finally had enough Triumph for my second T-9 piece. Yay!
In one night I gained about 1k mana and 300 spell power.
It’s a Magic-based debuff, so you need a priest or paladin in the group (who isn’t similarly afflicted) to remove it. A felhunter pet from a warlock could do it too, but it’s pretty rare in my experience to be grouped with one and have the warlock notice in time.
There’s nothing stopping even someone similarly afflicted from dispelling it. Eyes will counterspell you if you try to use something with a cast-time, but instant casts, like dispel magic, cannot be counterspelled and can be used freely. A resto druid will frequently not even notice the debuff or what it does, since most of what they cast is already instant to begin with.
I did it last year, when they made you do two hundred matches with the same team in order to get the pet. This year they’re only making you do 50. Did I mention I suck at PvP?
I was gonna mention this as well. Also, it seems clear that they’re dramatically increasing the number of classes that can do “things” (be it dispell, bloodlust, etc…), likely with these issues in mind.
Like you said there are still some scaling issues, but I think it’s doable the more I think about it (and I was very against it when I first heard about it).

However, I fully support their decision to bring 10 and 25 in line with each other finally. I don’t think it’ll kill 25 - all three 25-man raids I’m familiar with will still be going - but it will definitely solve the really idiotic problem they’ve created where my hard-mode 10-man raid, despite having our pick of the loot from challenging encounters, is still “encouraged” to PUG ridiculously easy 25-man crap because the easier content offers better or unique loot. It’ll also keep them from balancing the badge cost of items around doing 2 or even 4 raid instances a week, which just utterly screws people who would rather focus on what they enjoy.
[/QUOTE]
I agree with all of this (in particular not feeling obligated to grind badges), with one caveat.
I think the single biggest issue will be with guilds like mine where one 10-man group is pretty far ahead of the 25-man. The 25-man pretty clearly includes 15 “very good” players and 10 “pretty good” players. I’m not sure how long the 15 better players are gonna be willing to stick with “carrying” (God I hate that term) the 10 lower-quality players unless the rewards are significant. Why not split off and focus on 10-man raiding (and heroic modes) rather than deal with all of the issues that come with 25-man raiding? Maybe this is a good thing overall (less stress, less whining, fewer superiority complexes). But keeping this group together is going to be very, very hard IMO.
I’m thinking recruiting candidates for a 25-man will become much more difficult as well, because more of them will be in 10-man groups that they don’t want to leave (since they’ll be getting top-quality loot anyways).
Another example: my old guild runs primarily 10-man raids, and has 3 groups at various points of ICC10 (one about to kill Arthas, one working on Sindragosa, and one stuck in Plague Quarter). They also come together on Sundays to have fun as a large group and run the first wing of ICC25. It’s a way to have individual tight-knit groups but still feel like the entire guild is doing something together. This will obviously not be possible under the new system (unless maybe the 10-mans do one raid instance and the 25 is reserved for a different one…).
So, no, it won’t kill 25-man raiding… but it might just kill “casual” 25-man raiding.
So what you’re saying is that I could have cleansed myself instead of mindlessly trying to cast Holy/Flash of Light on the tank?? Dammit! Holy Shock could have also saved the day. Double dammit!
Having a great deal of fun leveling my hunter (when U-verse isn’t flaky at least). And I’ve got to say that the Random Dungeon Finder is AWESOME. I can join the queue, continue about my business, and then be whisked away for some dungeon diving fun. I’m really digging all the QoL improvements since my return.
On the flip side, by the way they’re capping out how much any single character can do in a week, in addition to all the streamlining of leveling, it can also be looked at as an official edict to go forth and multiply. Now people can play their alts without hurting their mains by doing so. As someone with nine level 80 characters I can definitely see the advantages…
Triple dammit If you’ve got Aura Mastery you could also fire that up with Concentration Aura for its temporary immunity to counterspells for you and your entire party. Most problems tend to have many possible solutions.
Soooooooo while I was offline for a month, my good friend Joe dragged my main around for dailies. He also brought me along for the continuation of our traditional mount runs. Which means that when I finally logged in yesterday, I found myself mounted on a…
MOTHERFUCKING RAVEN LORD!!! God damn *hell *yes. What a great way to come back to the game!
That may be my favorite quest in all of Northrend. I LOVE BABY MURLOCS.
Time for me to roll an alt, methinks…
Our little Wolkie… All growed up… :sniffle: :wipes a tear:
I’m a rabid pet collector, and I did it last year. I’ll probably do it again this year. Might even try to get vaguely serious about the PvP part: last year, my friends and I ended up facerolling a lot of our matches just to get through all 200. I had a particularly sexy +Spellpower/Int set for my DK. (Then we all rolled druids and formed a team called <BARE DRURIDS LOL> where we’d spend the entire match dancing in bear or cat form. Or, occasionally, just sneak around stealthed.)
SFG, it’s down to 50 matches this year, per what I heard on The Instance podcast this morning. That’s almost low enough for PvP-allergic me to sign up.
Not sure if you’re referring to this or not, but there ya go for folks that haven’t seen it yet.
Summary: Badges are going the way of honor points, with two tiers. You’ll earn a limited amount of high-tier points per week (either through LFD or raiding - seems pretty clear that the limit will be low enough that full raid clears will hit the limit). At the release of a new tier all high-tier points convert to low-tier points.
So yeah, sounds like they basically want to limit the amount of time you can spend “doing stuff” (or at least being rewarded for it) per toon. No more logging in every day to do the random, plus three nights for 25-man raids, plus two more for 10-man raids. You do the all the raids (either on 10 or 25) and you’re done for the week.
Clearly there is a big push to make PvP a larger part of the game as well, through new spells and rated BGs. It’ll be interesting, that’s for sure…
