World of Warcraft General Discussion

Isn’t it nice? To hell with Sparklepony, it’s Anzu all the way.

My alts are now 42 and 39…I started them 2 weeks ago and basically only play them on weekends. Triple-boxing chain instance runs FTW!

As soon as maintenance is over, I’ma be on my shiny new rocket!

Congratulations on your Raven Lord! That’s a beautiful mount. I’d love to have it, but I can’t get over the fact that the darn thing doesn’t fly! Every time I see it, “The Tennessee Bird Walk” starts running through my head.

Yup, Ferret Herder, someone mentioned the 50 matches thing upthread. Thank god.

Although I gotta say, Sparkle Pony is awesome on my alts. No more sad wrinkly elephant ass on Dvi!

I know, every time I take fall damage, something in the back of my brain goes “But but but!”

Why do they keep pushing PvP, Arenas, etc? It’s there for people who want it, and most players are not interested. I don’t undertand why they keep trying to make it a bigger part of the game.

Yeah, that was my first thought, but I wanted to stick with the Scarlet Crusade’s undead antipathy. Unfortunately, I couldn’t think of any WoW undead type with an appropriately-rhyming name. That, and the SC reveres “The Light” rather than “God”.
Now I’m trying to think of a WoW religious faction that can blame the upcoming Cataclysm on immodestly-dressed elves dancing on mailboxes :stuck_out_tongue:

As long as they keep it out of the parts of the game that you’re required to get through to level your character, I don’t really care what they do to expand or finesse it. It’s stupid enough that some of the holiday meta-achievements require venturing into the bgs now. I’m not looking forward to Children’s Week and it’s entirely because of the pvp achievements being part of the Tacky Magenta Proto-Drake meta. Bleargh!

My WAG? To attract new players who like PvP-focused games, as well as retain old ones who are more interested in PvP than PvE.

Had a freaking amazing group for Old Kingdom last night. We blew through the place in something like fifteen minutes. And, yay of yays, I way out-performed the other at-level human warlock in my group. So I guess that means I don’t totally suck.

I’m in this annoying place with my gear. I’ve been using Wowhead to kind of help me out and suggest things (since this is my first character ever; my first MMO ever, actually), but lately, almost everything it suggests either comes from a raid or tailoring (which, man oh man, I do not have the gold to level right now. Mostly because I took herbalism instead of mining :frowning: ). It also keeps on suggesting that I get hit rating, but I think I’m hit-capped (or at least at the point where I don’t need more hit). Is there a better way to do this?

I’ve discovered that Herbalism really starts to pay off once you can start gathering Lichbloom and Icethorn (found mainly in Storm Peaks and Icecrown). I was griping not long ago that Herbalism wasn’t the moneymaker I’d been led to believe, but then my lvl 80 belf pally started gathering those two herbs (as well as finding the occasional Frost Lotus) and the money started rolling in.

My main was a Miner for a while, but then the price of saronite ore just crashed and she gave up on it.

Doesn’t Cobalt Ore sell better than Saronite, anyway (since Cobalt is the last thing you can use to level your Mining by Smelting)?

Congratulations on Anzu!!

Several of my guildies are practicing arena already and have invited me to join them on my hunter, which I just might do even though my interest in pvp’ing has dropped off a bit because of loremaster/getting the priest to 80.

Last night, my guild rolled the first wing of ICC10 with only guildies and friends, which was very nice, we usually have sucky attendance but things seem to be improving. And we finally downed Saurfang in two tries for the very first time! Lots of squee in /raid and Vent.

We’d actually planned to just take a look before disbanding for the night since we had a less than ideal group makeup (several people were undergeared and we had only two ranged, me (hunter) and a lock). However, we got him down to about 20% before wiping at 30% much to everyone’s surprise.

So we figured we’d go it again, and spent some time working out extra details from the first try. Our enh shaman dropped mana tide next to our holy priest before starting, the protadin HoJ’d one beast for the melee dps to dogpile while ranged burned down the other beast. BL at about 20-30%.

We’re doing it again next week.  So I can say with certainty that we’ve got the first wing on farm now.

The prices for herbs, unless your server is an oddity, are not going to be nearly as good as for ore. Why I can’t quite imagine, but you may want to look at lower-quality ore, Outland or even old world stuff. You can sometimes clear 50g per stack of mithril.

I for one, prefer to /dance in fire.

Sprinting around during Flame Wreath is always good for a laugh or three, as well. (My favorite wipe mechanic, ever)

I took a look at your toon on wow-heroes.com, and it says that your HR is 295. At 80, your hit cap (for spells) will be 446 according to their hit calculator. This is reduced if you take points in Suppression and have a draenei in your raid. I wouldn’t worry as much about hit until you get to 80, though. As long as things are dying and you’re holding your own which it sounds like you are, you should be fine.

I can’t really help with gearing other than to note that in addition to wowhead you can also check out wow-loot.com to help you get the rest of the way to 80. It lists quest rewards and drops suitable for your toon and tells you where they are. I’m using it for all my toons when they hit OL/NR as a sort of guideline rather than gospel, and it seems to have worked out okay.

The tradeoff is that ore is harder to come by. Herbs dominate the middle of zones, while ore is usually restricted to the edges of mountains and hills. You can collect 40 herbs (admittedly spread between 3 or 4 different types) much, much faster than you can collect 40 ore.

Demand-wise, ore is also (I think) used in vastly larger quantities. More professions use it and they use a LOT. I took a quick peek at Alchemy, and there were exceedingly few recipes that use more than 2 of a single kind of herb. Blacksmithing, on the other hand, has plenty of designs that require you to sink 12 or more ore a pop. Jewelcrafting and Inscription both burn 5 mats at a time for Prospecting and Milling, so they’re roughly equal (although 5 herbs gets you anywhere from 1-3 dyes, while 5 ore gets you 1, MAYBE 2 gems). Of course, on the flip side, herbs are used for more consumables than ore, and so you generally need a lot of them to supply your needs.

So figure that demand is roughly equal, especially at endgame. Ore is still worth more per mat due to lower supply, but since the time to gather is more for ore, I’d say it roughly balances out.

When first I went to Cairne, I made my fortune while leveling through both Mining and Skinning. It was sufficient to get me exactly 1000 gold at level 40 for dualspec, and it didn’t take me too long to raise 6000 gold for epic flight and Cold Weather Flying. My druid on Stormrage is making his way via Herbalism and Enchanting, and he’s doing just as well, if not better. I’ve yet to see how long it’ll take me to get 6000 gold, but he spiked over 1000 gold right at level 40 as well, and that’s with using the majority of his enchant mats to skill up rather than sell.

You’re level 74, no need to worry too much about gear until you hit level 80, if there’s something easy to get(eg quest rewards), get it, otherwise don’t spend too much time trying to get it.
Make sure you the Kalu’ak quests and dailies though, they have some nice rep rewards while leveling.

Herbalism becomes a money maker once you can gather Stranglekelp(120g/stack when I leveled my warrior) and it becomes even better once you hit Blindweed(80g/stack) since then you don’t need to go swimming to farm it.

What’s even more fun is trying to rescue them when you -don’t- have the quest- the little buggers are smart! They say you’re ‘not momma’, or that they ‘don’t talk to strangers’ and immediately shut the cage door again!

Interesting - it would appear that you can’t teleport out of a “phased” area. My mage just finished the Wrathgate sequence, and after collecting Bolvar’s shield she tried to teleport to SW … couldn’t do it. Flew up to the flight point at Fordragon Hold and tried again … no dice. So I flew to Dal, and teleported successfully from there, though by that point I should have just taken the portal and saved a rune, but I wanted to make sure my Teleport spell wasn’t simply bugging on me.

I diasgree. The thing is that ore is very easy to find if you are using a , because it specifically tends to be laid out in lines. In some areas, you can very easily make a practical loop and pick it up a very fast clip. You do have to know more about the locations and mods like Gatherer are much more necessary. You can just fly around and look for herbs, but minerals take a little time and brainpower investment up front. Once you do, and get to know the drops, it’s easy as pie to nab. Remember that your first character was probably not as familiar with the best routes. of course, it is easier in Outland and Northrend than in Classic, because of the flying - ore can be hard erto reach on foot than herbs.

Moreover, it’s a less vulnerable to undercutting. Ore prices are pretty stable, and I see bigger fluctuations based on herbs. And you have to carry a lot more herbs around which is a pain if you are also doing other things. I have a similar experience as you, but way in reverse. I’ve tried every gathering profession twice (glutton for punishment, I guess) and minerals are far and away the easiest to earn cash on. No worry, less market watching, no vendor trashing mats I simply can’t sell - somebody will take it off your hands at a fair price.
