World of Warcraft General Discussion

Pff, you’re not gonna kill a man with <5k DPS. Noob.

Yah, that’s what I see happening all the time. I’ve seen individuals of all tank classes do it, but almost every single DK tank I’ve been grouped with does it. When pulling, I let the tank go in first (naturally), and I wait a moment before I charge in, both to see where they’re going to position themselves (i.e., are they going to turn the mobs around, or just run up to them) so I can see where I need to position myself, and to make sure they’re done gathering mobs and are ready to stand still. With these DKs, they’ll plant themselves, I’ll charge in and drop my Consecrate … and then they start leaping backwards and dragging the mobs around.

Hello tank! I’m melee DPS over here! I need a target that is relatively stationary!

I just tried it, and unfortunately it didn’t work. I made a raid with a guildy who had a different raid ID, then had her go inside and give me lead. I tried to change it–it let me, but she said it didn’t change for her. When she went out and came back in, it wouldn’t let her in because it said she needed to kill LK first. Did I do it wrong?

Money question,

I have scrimped and saved and spent as little as possible whilst levelling. I am now sitting at 3400 ish gold at level 70. Unfortunately this isn’t wnough as Northrend flying is going to cost me 4750 (I am about to go up a rep level so probably make this 4500)

Firstly, is there some other big expense around the corner I should be saving for, or is it absolutley OK for me to blow all my wealth on the Northrend flying?

One And Only Wanderers, Cold Weather Flying only cost 1000g(and you can’t buy it until level 77), it’s the Epic Flying skill that cost 5000g but you don’t need that to get the Cold Weather Flying.

OK, where do I pick up cold wetaher flying then? Is it a different trainer?

Whew, glad to hear I can regain flight without spending that much!
nevermind, you said, not till lvl 77.

Damn I got too used to flying in Outland. Horse suck!

You can learn Cold Weather flying from Hira Snowdawn in Dalaran. Yes it’s annoying to be back on your horse but you do get to see the landscape up close which is nice. When you have one level 80 you can buy a Tome of Cold weather Flying which can be mailed to your alts so that they can fly in Northrend from 70.

I thought id seen a lvl 71 char flying in Northrend. This would explain it.

While levelling up my holy pally to 60, I got in the habit of putting myself in the DF queue when I logged in, and questing for 15-20 minutes before getting put in a dungeon group.

But in the last couple of days I’ve been getting put in groups almost instantly, so I haven’t even left the inn in Thrallmar. I think I’ve run Ramparts about ten times in the past two nights. At least I’m getting lots of Thrallmar rep.

Roland Orzabal is now a member of the Burning Dog Legion, and joined us for our Ony-10 run last night – which we completed on the first try. Yay us! We then tried to do the weekly quest in ToC10. We made a few attempts (wiping on the worms) but then everyone started having connection problems so we called it a night.

It was weird. Three out of the ten people lost connection to the server and reported on Vent that the entire battlegroup was down, but the rest of us were fine. I switched over to Stormrage to handle a few dailies on my Pally after the raid fell apart, and in doing so I saw that the servers on Cairne’s BG were all showing as down for me, too. I don’t know why some folks maintained their connections and others didn’t.

Yeah, I had no problem – after we disbanded, I switched over to Keyne and continued happily without any problems; but I noticed almost everyone else in the guild had logged off (either willingly or unwillingly).

Had the same thing happen on Lightbringer (the server for which is located in the same facility as Cairne’s). I was playing my mage, who is in a new guild that has other people besides myself in it ( :stuck_out_tongue: ), and there were about 20 people on … and then suddenly there were maybe 5-6 on, including me. Then in a few minutes people started popping back in and making comments about the server going down, and those of us who didn’t DC were all, “Whut?”
Speaking of my mage: I played her last night until I was just too tired to keep going. Today, she shall reach level 80  And to prepare for that, I had my paladin main purchase the Royal Moonshroud Robe pattern. She already had the Royal Moonshroud Bracers pattern. So she can send my mage some nice shiny iLvl 245 gear

Wow, last night was crazy. I finally caught the <Prototype> RL online last night, and we chatted for a while about Cap (my healer) and me joining them. Then he asked if I was saved to ICC25, since they were short a few people–so I got to come in at the tail end of their run for that week. I was just Fury facerolling to contribute some extra DPS, but I got to help kill Sindragosa and see a few LK attempts. From what I got to see, I think this guild is going to be a good match–people know what they’re doing but don’t take themselves too seriously.

Cap’s going to be able to jump right in, but my HP’s just not up to a lot of the hard modes yet, so we’re going to be swapping me in for fights to work on gearing me up. Which is exactly what I was hoping for–no way can I handle tanking 25-man Heroics in mostly 245/258 gear. The only other way to get to where I needed to be would have been to chain-hop guilds, gearing up a bit more with each one, which is not something I’d ever feel comfortable doing.

Yay for new guild and yay for not having to transfer again!

Hey, c’mere. I want to [del]Shadowmeld a boss onto your face[/del] show you something.

Hrm. The way we did it was to just have the Kingslayer sitting outside the instance and swapping it. So the rest of the raid was inside while the Kinglayer was outside toggling Heroic/regular. I remember we were inside 'cause I was getting the loading screen when it swapped.

You don’t have to be 80 to get it, just high enough to have CWF on the toon that’s buying it. So you could theoretically buy it for an alt on a toon as low as 77.

Woohoo! Great work, BDL!

Were they in different areas? Different parts of the world are maintained on different servers (e.g., old world vs. Outland vs. Northrend vs. Wrath raids vs. …). It’s entirely possible for someone in Dalaran to be forced offline while someone parked at The Crossroads is safe.

We were all inside the same instance (ToC10). Fortunately it was in between attempts so people weren’t dropping mid-fight.

How bizarre. I wonder if part of the traffic is routed through another group of servers, so people from one region of the country were getting dropped.

That’s the problem I was having last night. Tank just ran all over the place, and I was following him like it was a game of tag. It wasn’t even just around one room, it was across the entire SM Graveyard.

There’s so much trash in SM:GY, that’s pretty typical. The tank will run around and gather everything up, and then the DPS will just AOE it down.

Yeah, that’s exactly what I did. I formed a raid group with my friend with the different 10 man ID, she went in, I stayed out, she made me lead, and then I changed it. It said it changed (I got the message “Now set to 10 player (Heroic)” but no loading screen, and it didn’t change for her inside.

Maybe they fixed it. Ugh. Ah, well. Thanks anyway

Yep, the Seattle datacenter took a dump 1.5 hours before raid time. The forums immediately lit up with QQ of “Whirlwind’s down! Emberstorm’s down!” I had to wince at the raid who were on LK when things went down…

Fortunately it came back up in time for our raid, so we picked up a resto shaman and sallied forth to say hi to Fester and Rot.

I got Precious’s Putrid Collar off Fester. I tells ya, I’m all kinds of grossed out by wearing something picked off an undead hellbeast of a dog. But hell, it’s a nice upgrade from the Collar of Unending Tormentespecially with the socket, so what the hey. I guess it really is true, we DPS are h0rs when it comes to an upgrade.

We spent the next while wiping on Rotface – one try we got him down to 6%, but we generally ended at 30%. I think we still need work on tightening up our positioning and make sure that Big Oozes are immediately taunted. There’s also a certain element of RNG in Rot’s turns I think – I got oneshot by an unlucky Slime Spray when I was trying to drop a slime for the OT and Rot picked me to flip toward. :smack: In any event, people are going to be watching the videos again to see if there’s something we missed.

Okay, WTF? I queued up my lvl 79 mage for a random dungeon, and got CoS (normal, of course).

We proceeded to wipe three times on Meathook, purely because he repeatedly hit the healer with some chain thing that stunned her or otherwise took her out of the action for like 10 seconds at a time, long enough for the tank to die. If the tank was still alive when it wore off, he’d turn around and hit her with it again. It completely removed the healer from the fight.

I’ve run Heroic CoS many times on my pally, and I have never, ever seen that before. What the hell was happening there?
