World of Warcraft General Discussion

Haha! My mage dinged 80 in Culling of Stratholme too

If you hover your mouse over the “new” item and hold down your SHIFT key, it will show the tooltip for your currently equipped item alongside the tooltip for the item you’re hovering over. And at the bottom of the tooltip it will itemize what you will gain (or lose) by equipping the “new” item in place of your current item. Like so:

As you can see, if I don that pair of leather pants (received as a reward for completing a low-level quest in the night elf starting area) in place of my Tier 9 plate pants, I’ll lose a whole bunch

(You can’t see my mouse pointer in that screenshot, but it’s hovering over the pair of pants immediately to the right of the Canopy Leggings tooltip.)

I’m pretty sure this functionality is part of the stock UI now, and not an addon.

ETA on another topic:

Oh yeah! 2875/3000 toward my “The Seeker” title! And 565/700 towards Loremaster of Kalimdor! (the reason I was doing low-level quests in the night elf starting area …)

Ratingsbuster will help you figure out if an item is an upgrade. Blizzard borrowed a lot of their functionality for the stock “you get XYZ when you have this on” tooltip, but I still prefer Ratingsbuster because it’s much more granular. (and because I got used to it  )

But what you can do is hold SHIFT when mousing over an item and a tooltip will open up so that you can compare it with what you have in that gear slot. No need to open up your character sheet.

And if you SHIFT-left click on the item in your bags, you can see what the unequipped item will look like in the Dressing Room for your character. (This is also usable if someone links an item in chat and you’re curious to see what it looks like).

If you want more must-have addons, the addon spotlights at WoW.com are good, as are nostockui.com and vranx.com. They generally highlight really excellent addons, but as ever, it’s a matter of personal taste and playstyle.

I can’t remember what you play, so if you could refresh us, I’m sure we could make a few class specific addon recommendations. That said, I think that Omen (a threat meter) and a bar mod (to give you more flexibility and power when it comes to button arrangements and keybinds) are both pretty universal.

ETA: Curses! Ninja’d by Rik!

Thanks **Rik **and lizardling!

I’m a rogue, and I run Skada (like it more than that other one), Omen (heart), QuestHelper and one I can’t remember that shows coordinates.

Thanks, jayjay! If it’s a legitimate withdraw, that’s fine, I don’t want anyone’s money if they leave the guild. I just don’t want the bank hacked. That money is there for my guildies to use when they need it for repairs or whatever.

Thanks

ding to 71. Also completed my first WotLK dungeon - Uthgarde Keep. My first couple of PUG’s were awful - healer both times. The first one was outright saying he couldn’t heal and asking someone to take over. How u can get to lvl 70 and not be able to play your class is beyond me, as is queuing as healer if u can’t do it. The 3rd PUG group I got made the entire run no probs tho.

What exactly are Emblems for? I assume you need lots to buy anything and not until lvl 80?

Pretty much. Ideally, you want to run at least one dungeon a day to get the bonus emblems, plus dungeon loot which is going to be nicer than quest loot. When you hit 80, you’ll have an excellent store of emblems to purchase some high end gear right away.

For Triumph emblems, most stuff you’ll be looking at will cost between 30-75 emblems, with 30 and 50 being the most cost-efficient.

I was over in NR when I got a whisper message from someone called Wehavheathr telling me and Wolkie that “The Horde is coming after Heather”.

I sent back another whisper only to be told that no one by the name of Wehavheather is playing.
We flew back to Valiance, caught the ship to SW and then flew over to Sentinel Hill, and here is what we found:

No one else knows about Wolkie’s relationship with Heather but the folks who follow this thread, and this isn’t meant to be accusatory to any of my good friends (you know who you are), but someone’s been reading my posts about those two, and someone’s an asshole.

Wolkie did get there in time to kill a couple of the Horde, but he’s PISSED, because no one as sweet as his Heather deserves to be attacked and killed.

I TOLD y’all… (didn’t I?) if I’m getting into this, I’m getting into it ALL THE WAY.

So, some sumbitch better say his prayers.

Which led to this:

No WAY is she going to be attacked and killed again!

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Forgive me, Quasi…on the one hand, I’m thinking “That’s not right!” and on the other I’m thinking “That was brilliant!” I have no idea who it was, though. But don’t forget that not only the people who post in this thread can read it. Not only other people on this board, but the board is indexed by Google, so anyone searching on WoW can possibly find this thread.

Which reminds me why I came in here in the first place…

I’m stumped. I’m trying to get the Classic Dungeonmaster achievement and I’m soloed (80 DK) all the way up to Scholo. But I can’t get the key. I have no quests available from Chillwind Camp. I have no key or mold for Scholo in my inventory or bank. I can’t get a replacement from the locksmiths. I have no idea where I hung up. It’s been a good year or more since I’ve played this toon, so I don’t remember where I was in the quest chain, and I have nothing in my quest log about it. It’s like any history I have on this key has vanished.

And I have no idea how else to get in (other than the dead trick, but I have no way to die on purpose…not a warlock).

(And can I just note that the sheer amount of tomfoolery and backtracking and crap you have to do to even get Enarikus to wake up and fight in Sunken Temple is ridiculous?)

Have you turned on the Low Level Quest tracker before looking?

Sorry for asking, it’s like asking if you plugged the computer in before trying to turn it on.

Yes, I did think of that. The only quest that still shows at Chillwind is the deed quest from Whatsisname Barov.

I’m going to go back and check my bank for the mold. I have so much junk in there from (again) over a year ago that I may have overlooked it. Although I don’t have the quest either to find the goblin in Gadget or from the goblin in Gadget to go to Fireplume.

Never mind. For some reason, I broke off the chain at Krinkle in Gadgetzan. I have what I need now. Off to Un’goro…

Yeah, well… just Godammit, okay? And to whoever it was - don’t be coming after Heather again, because, not only is she Wolkie’s sweetie, she’s also an NPC and killing THEM brings no honor.

Plus we’re gonna cut your nuts off if you do this again.

Motherfucker.

Bill, Quasi, Wolkie, Heather and Silka

Scholo out of the way. Heading for Stratholme. I always seem to end up getting overwhelmed in the streets there, unfortunately…

A question for my fellow BDL’ers…what are the criteria for being able to withdraw from the Guild Bank? I can see all the tabs, but they’re all deposit only.

There’s nothing in particular that I need at this point; just wondering what the rules are…

There are probably a lot of people who, like me, didn’t bother running dungeons until Northrend (I’d actually been level 80 for more than six months before I ever set foot in a NR dungeon, and most of my old world dungeon experience involved waiting until I greatly outleveled the dungeons and then soloing them, because for a long time I had no interest at all in “group” play). So plenty of people actually have no experience in a dungeon group, or at least in a particular role. The thing being that in a game that’s been around as long as WoW has been now, tons of people level as quickly as possible to get to the end-game stuff, especially if they’ve already been through the whole level grind on another toon. So somebody might be plenty experienced at playing their warrior tank main toon, and they’ve decided to level a priest or whatever to try their hand at healing … so they make a priest and use the various in-game techniques to speed through all the old, low-level content, and then try to start healing dungeons when they get to NR. And they probably leveled with their toon in a DPS spec and switched to a healing spec when they got to NR, and now they’re trying to learn. I’m lights out as a DPS Ret paladin, but I’d have no idea at all what to do as a Holy paladin healer, or as a Protection paladin tank.
Then again, I’m becoming even more convinced that Friday night is the worst time to run random heroics, just because you get a lot of people who, I guess, only get to play on weekends. I didn’t think I was ever going to finish a dungeon on my 80s last night. Not just because of in-game issues, either; there was some sort of conspiracy to keep me from getting stuff done last night. I got home from work a bit after 8:00PM, checked my e-mail and a couple other things, and finally fired up WoW a bit before 9:00 and logged in my main. I queued up in the RDF, and did dailies while I waited for my random to come up.

Shortly after queueing, my roommate came knocking on my door. It seemed that <wtf?>a census worker was at the front door</wtf?> Yes, WTF is a census worked doing knocking on doors at 9:00 on a Friday night, anyway? And she needed me to answer some questions … the same damned questions that were on the census form the Census Bureau sent us, which we filled out and mailed back three weeks ago.

Anyway, I fortunately got done with that and made it back to my computer before the RDF popped up with my random dungeon. It popped up, and I clicked “Enter Dungeon”. Boom, I was in a group … but I wasn’t in the dungeon. Okay, weird glitch. I clicked “Teleport to Dungeon”. Nothing happened. I finally realized the problem: I was on the Skybreaker airship. The RDF won’t teleport you from there, apparently. I suspect it doesn’t like the moving coordinates. So I got on my flying mount, lifted off, and clicked “Teleport to Dungeon” again, and I was in.

Oh joy, it’s Halls of Reflection (the frequency with which HoR comes up as my first random heroic of the day is mind-boggling - I think I’ve seen H:FoS a grand total of 3 times, and H:PoS a total of 4 times, yet HoR has come up as my first random of the day about 6 times now). I made my way to where the rest of the group was waiting, picking my way carefully across a floor piled high with the shattered bones left behind by those unfortunates who had gone immediately before me. “Ah, I see I’m entering an in-progress attempt,” I said to myself. So I joined the rest of the group and asked, “Any bosses down?” Two players answered that they didn’t know, they’d just gotten there themselves. One of the others said two bosses were down and they were getting ready to start the third. Counts on fingers … Falric, 1, … Marwyn, 2 … okay, they must mean we’re ready to attempt the escape from the Lich King. I thought that was kind of a strange point for people to drop group, and why was the group still sitting in the alcove off the first room, but oh well.

So somebody got us started … by running over to Jaina, and then Marwyn started yelling. Okay, I’m not sure how Marwyn was being counted as the third boss, but whatever. We proceeded to wipe on the first wave of trash. Fortunately, I saw the problem: the tank was focusing all of her attention on the Footman. So as we flew back to the instance I shared the kill priority order of “Priest, Mage, Mercenary, Hunter, Footman” (some groups reverse the merc and the hunter, either one is fine with me). We started over … and once again the tank went directly for the Footman and ignored everything else. I did my best, soloing the priest down, then the mage, then the merc (the other DPS may have been helping with some of this), and we survived the first wave this time. I simplified the instructions to “Kill the priest first, then the mage!” Second wave came … and the tank went right after the Footman again. We wiped again. I quit.

I went back to doing dailies and re-queued. While doing dailies, here came another knock on my bedroom door :smack: This time it was my best friend, bringing me a birthday present three days early. Okay, I can’t really get upset about that, but the RDF did pop up with my dungeon while we were chatting, and I had to miss it. So my friend left after a while, I finished my dailies, and gave up trying to get a random heroic done on my main.

So then I logged in my mage, got my Valiant dailies done, and then queued for a random, being just 10 Triumphs short of some Tier 9 shoulders. Halls of Stone popped up … in-progress. Oh yay, I’ve been inserted into another group to replace somebody else who quit in frustration. Of course, we were at the spot where Brann is trying to coax information out of the archive and angry Iron Dwarves are attacking willy-nilly. Tank was unable to perform anything resembling “holding aggro”, Iron Dwarves were everywhere, and after the second wipe I quit along with everybody else.

Re-queued, and this time I got Gundrak. At the beginning of the run, even. We zipped right on through, and everything was wonderful. Though I will say that, as a mage, I really really really don’t like the “Elemental Phase” of the Drakkari Colossus. I was utterly useless because it kept dropping those purple puddles under me and I couldn’t stand in one place long enough to cast anything - my mage’s HP pool isn’t all that big yet and the puddles were damaging me faster than the healer could heal me, so I had to keep stopping casting to get out of the puddles. Nevertheless, we made it through without anybody dying. Finally!

Actually, now that I think about it, I think the problem is that those airships in Icecrown don’t seem to actually have a “location” as far as the game’s geography is concerned. I just remembered that I logged my main out once while she was aboard the Skybreaker, and the character selection screen didn’t show a location for her. It just said:

Eilyssana
Level 80 Paladin
<blank line here where it normally says “Dalaran” or “Icecrown” or wherever you were when you logged out>

Yeah, I’ve been on one of the skyships before when my random dungeon finder popped up, only to be told that I can’t teleport to the dungeon. Just hopping onto my flying mount and hovering a few feet above the deck seems to be enough to give you a location and allow you to teleport in.

GAAAAAAAAAH! This is why I hate the “old world” instances so much! Working on Loremaster of Kalimdor, I’m doing that quest for the Centaur Pariah where I have to collect gems from those various centaur khans in Maraudon. I’ve collected all the gems. Now I’ve spent the last hour running around in the “entrance” area in front of the purple instance entrance. Literally “around”. Every path just leads me around and around and around and I keep winding up back at the instance portal. I cannot find my way back to the front door of the place. There’s one spot on the map that appears to lead to the exit, as it appears on the minimap, but just as I get to that point … the connection disappears on the minimap. The world map is no good because it just shows me as being in Desolace. Atlas is no help because it makes it appear that there’s a connection there where there actually is no connection.

What sadists at Blizzard thought that [extreme frustration and getting completely lost] = [fun]?
