I’m doing that, on and off, myself. My oldest toons are either exalted with their home cities or are very close. When the mood hits, I do “lowby” quests that I hadn’t gotten around to, or I send my “bear drood” to Dire Maul (lots of runecloth for rep turn ins). Until Blizz nerfs it, it’s a simple matter to round up the room and spam Swipe until they are all down.
Keep the frostweave and use it. There are the ebonweave items that you just might want. In fact, the lesser frostsavage is not too bad either. My 80 priest is still running with frozen shadow weave, because it was so damn good. I need to start raiding. Not much of anything I’ve seen is anymore than a “sidegrade” so far.
Those are all very easy to fix!
There are shops all around with various types of armor and weapons. Realistically, though, you’re going to end up finding your best stuff on the auction house.
You can take your herbalism from 395 to 450 just by running around the lake west of the DEHTA encampment. I did that, and built up XP killing the mobs, and ran over to the DEHTA folks every time I had 15 lackey ears to get the buff. I’ve never seen such a dense collection of herbs that respawns so fast.
I haven’t done any DEHTA quests yet, so I will have to head over there. I didn’t do them before cause I found the idea of working for Azeroth’s version of PETA to be a bit unsettling.
If you are going after Loremaster, I’d also advise biting the bullet and trying for the Seeker title, as well. You might have to go run some low-level instances to hit the 3000 quest requirement, but the title is fairly rare. (Well, on my server, at least) That title is one of the things I’m most “proud” of, and it’s kinda nice to get a random /w every now and then, asking how I got “The Seeker” title.
On another note, are many people doing Heroic Ulduar? How is your progression coming along? We have 8 bosses down, and Thorim is our current roadblock. We can get him down into the arena, but people keep getting hit by chain lightning, or his cone-shaped attack. Some of us want to skip him and go onto Freya, since we feel it will be easier and some quick loot, but the GM has an Ahab-like fixation on the guy (and understandably so, with all the time we’ve spent on him).
Finally. Ding 80. God that was a long time in coming.
All the armor that I can get at auction is redded-out to me, because I’m just a Level 17. I just wanted to give ol’ Wolkie a new, stronger look, I reckon.
I did get the stronger metal shield, though.
The mail he now wears was given to me/him, as a present, but he looks just a tad “flamboyant” in it.
I got me lotsa money, but I can’t spend it on accounta my level is so low.
But, as you know, to me it’s all about the role-playing.
One question though: If I am challenged to a duel, do I get anything for that even if I lose?
Thanks
Q
It’s not.
My 76 human pally is exalted with SW and IF. The next closest faction is, surprisingly, the Kurenai in Outland.
It’s cooler
My two Draenei (both above 50) are Exalted with Stormwind and nobody else.
It’s surprisingly easy to get Stormwind rep.
Right now I’m working on getting my Draenei Hunter to Exalted with Gnomeregan Exiles, because I want to see a giant goatman riding a robot chicken.
Stormwind may be dead easy, but Gnomeregan is stupidly hard to get rep with. With Stormwind, I went to Elwynn at about level 30-40 and did all the quests there, all the quests in Westfall (including the Deadmines), a couple quests in Redridge, and I was Exalted. With Gnomeregan Exiles, I’ve done all of Dun Morogh, Loch Modan, and Wetlands, went through Gnomeregan, turned in the first four cloth rep quests, even went through Uldaman for a quest chain that gave 1150 Gnome rep, and yet I’m still about 10000 rep away from Exalted.
On the upside, in the process I’ve been gaining a ton of Ironforge and Exodar rep. Once I get Gnomeregan Exiles, it’ll be a short hop through the Darnassus hoop and I’ll have Ambassador.
Gratz!
I hit 72 last night doing the airstrip quests and nexus quests (well the ones outside the nexus), and I found a new guild that is just getting started with raiding. They seem to be a pretty small but friendly guild, and I asked a few questions about their raiding schedule, found out it was pretty casual, which I like, and decided to join.
I like their guild name, Mystic Fish of Sisters of Elune. And the ranks are funny too. Ditto rank for alts, Magikarp for new members, and so on.
The quests in Borean Tundra continue to be fun. Just fighting all the robots and such near the Airstrip reminded me of Gnomeregan with the alert bots and the bad gnomes, and such. And quests in Coldbarra were truly epic and amazing. I have the say, the last quest there was one of my all-time favorites.
I was looking through the spells I will get in the next few levels, and I found a shadow AOE spell at 75 that looks like it will be very cool. After playing a mage when I first started in WoW, I’ve definitely missed having AOE options.
Gratz on 72.
I may be weird, but I hated Borean Tundra. I much preferred Howling Fjord, in fact, though Dragonblight leaves them both in the dust for me (and Grizzly Hills so far falls into my least favorite zone in Northrend).
Upon hitting 80, I specced out of my moonkin build. I just wasn’t enjoying it (stopping and drinking all the damned time sucks). I’ve gone back to my kitty build and man can I do some damage if I manage to hit the keys right. I may have to build a macro or three. Any advice on armor stats that are paramount for kitty druids other than stamina, agility, hit, and crit?
Hmm, I have to ask, are you horde or scum allience? I found the horde quests in Howling Fjord to be too spread out compared to Borean. The zone itself is better looking, and feels more coherent, but the actual content doesn’t quite live up to it.
Grizzly Hills, I have to agree on, I’ve spent less time there than any other Northrend zone, and I only see that changing if they put a raid in there for some strange reason. Heck, even the instance there is boring.
I have to say my favorite area is still Sholazar, and specificly the wolvar. I really wish they had the cool stuff and the bleeding frogs had one meh drop. But that green proto-drake is too cool not to get.
Howling Fjord is much better for alliance, I think. I also thought BT was much better for Horde. One thing that annoyed me in HF as horde on a PvP server was that one of the quest givers and associated quests were located right near Fort Wildervar, so trying to do those quests generally consisted of a few alliance running out of town, ganking, and running back in.
My priest is alliance side, but I just couldn’t get into the Howling Fjord quests for some reason. Borean Tundra has been a lot more fun for me.
I feel like the quest storyline is a lot more solid in Borean Tundra.
Our guild just beat Thorim this weekend–surprisingly easily, given all the trouble we’d had with him. That’s three Guardians down, with only Mimiron left (he’s nasty!)
It’s pretty easy to get out of the way of the cone-shaped attack–think of him as the big brother of the first boss in the Oculus. He puts out a little “lightning tendril” before he does the attack, and if you pay attention to where it is, just assume that the lightning attack will cone out in about a 60-degree arc from that tendril (on either side of it). So just move out of the way and you’re set.
If you can manage the Arena (that was the part that gave us fits for a week or so) and the gauntlet, then you’re in the home stretch.
As far as the chain lightning goes, people just need to spread out. I know it’s not a big area and you have to keep moving to get away from the cone attack, but compared to all the moving around you have to do for Hodir it’s not bad.
Brace yourselves for a mass catch-up post!
Well (1) now you know and (2) since you’re busy kiting the Zombie Chow, if you’ve got a Rogue, you can have them use the poison that dispels it, too (or if you’ve got another Hunter in the raid, they could do it, too).
If you’re ever planning on doing any drakes, you might want to suggest switching to tanking Sarth at the end of the platform closest to the entrance, just so the raid can get used to it. (It can really screw with your head when you switch it around, especially if you’re a tank that now has to remember to strafe out of waves coming from across from you instead of behind.) We also call the waves as “split” (run to either Sarth or whatever drake is on the other end) or “center” (run to the middle… except the Sarth tank, who strafes onto the pointy tip of the island, toward the entrance).
Your MT needs to learn how to watch their threat meter.
Again, if you have a Rogue, they can also use Tricks to transfer more threat to the tank who needs to lead the meter.
Here’s another spot where this WoWWiki article is full of crap. Crushing Blows now only happen when there is a **four **level gap between the mob and the player it’s attacking. (Thank the PTB, ‘cause passive uncrushability was nigh-freakin’-impossible to get to.)
Slight diversion, but how tough is Thyrm? Has anyone taken him on with a 5-man (or fewer)?
Thyrm isn’t a world raid–he’s there for a quest where you get a… vehicle of sorts to use to kill him. (That quest, by the way, was quite possibly my favorite quest in all of Wrath.) So there’s no more point to killing him than a Fel Reaver–he doesn’t drop anything worthwhile.
So I’m not sure what I got myself involved in, but a flag was captured and it was, well… fun!
Welcome to Battlegrounds! A Battleground (BG) is a special area of the world designated for PvP (player-versus-player) faction-based (i.e., Alliance vs. Horde) combat. Warsong Gulch (WSG) is the first one that becomes available to players, at the level 10-19 bracket. Different BGs are set up with different objectives–WSG is a straight-up capture-the-flag game, with a maximum of 10 players per side.
Finally. Ding 80.
Grats!
All the armor that I can get at auction is redded-out to me, because I’m just a Level 17.
When you’re searching the AH (auction house), you can restrict your search to a certain level bracket, or you can check the box that says something like “restrict to useable items,” which will only show you things that your character can use. Even at 17, there should be plenty of greens that will be miles better than anything you can buy from a vendor. If you tell us what class your character is (given that you mentioned a shield, it’s gotta be Warrior/Paladin/Shaman), we can make suggestions on what kind of gear to focus on, and what kind of stats you want to prioritize.
The mail he now wears was given to me/him, as a present, but he looks just a tad “flamboyant” in it.
LOL, brace yourself–as you’re leveling up, your armor will not infrequently be mismatched and/or hideous.
One question though: If I am challenged to a duel, do I get anything for that even if I lose?
Dueling gets you nothing but bragging rights.
General duel etiquette: don’t use potions, don’t use anything with a super-long cooldown, and the winner helps heal the loser if they can (with spells or bandages).
My two Draenei (both above 50) are Exalted with Stormwind and nobody else.
It’s surprisingly easy to get Stormwind rep.
Back when I was leveling my main, I decided that I wanted to get her a horse right the very second she hit 40 (this was when you couldn’t train riding until 40, obviously). So instead of leveling her the last few bubbles of 39 (running up and down the length of STV all the while, of course, since this was also before they put in the Rebel Camp FP), I ended up running up and down the length of Elwynn Forest, clearing out all the lowbie human quests. So great was my glee when she finally dinged Exalted!

Right. I’m just wondering if anyone’s killed him in the real world for giggles/revenge. And if so, how hard he is.
Right. I’m just wondering if anyone’s killed him in the real world for giggles/revenge. And if so, how hard he is.
Actually, to make things even more difficult: there are two Thryms. One pats up and down in Zul’Drak and is visible from other subzones…the other one (the one that you kill during the Storm Giant quest) only spawns once you have killed a particular quest mob. The two are not the same. I learned this when I tried to kill the “original” Thrym while aboard my storm giant.
The “original” Thrym has 630K hit points and has a chance to drop a couple of random greens and nothing else useful. I would imagine three or so decently geared level 80s of the right classes could take him down without a lot of trouble, but I’ve never seen anyone do it.
