I hear you. I can’t imagine the extent of the environmental catastrophe in Azeroth, what with the poor pigs running around without snouts or livers, the poor striders running around on Kalimdor without beaks, the poor zhevras without hooves…just scads of horribly deformed animals wandering around with no hope at all.
Ee-yup. Led to a quest 2-3 levels too high for me
Oh yeah, that’s the other problem in Loch Modan: bears with no freakin’ meat!
Exciting times. I’m now about halfway between 58 and 59, which means I should be able to hit 60 with ease tomorrow, and possibly even 61. I’m about 90 gold away from having enough to get Journeyman riding and learning to summon my Dreadsteed.
How easy is it to get gold in Outland? I know that gear drops (or used to drop) like crazy, but how much of that can I easily sell at the Auction House?
Thank you for this advice, last night I made the trek from Ghostlands to Ashenvale and I’m very happy that I did though it’s a bloody long way on foot (only 4 levels to my mount, 4 long levels). Nice looking zone, very similar to STV but not as annoying somehow and killing nelfs is always a pleasure. A couple of firsts too, I got to use Unending Breath while killing water elementals, also cast it on a couple of other players doing the same which was nice, and Nightfall proc-ed at a useful time, instant Shadowbolt goodness.
On my way through Origmarr I checked the AH and noticed that there aren’t many items with +shadow damage, is this usual? Lots of +arcane or +fire but that’s not much good to me.
Also I am back to my retadin tonight and beginning to wonder if I need a weapon upgrade. At level 45 I am using Bonebiter and have done for a while now, any advice on potential upgrades? Or is this good enough for my level? Actually to make this more generic are there any websites out there that are useful in suggesting what are the best weapons at certain levels?
First you need to realize that the chance of any given piece of loot having the +shadow damage attribute is pretty low, secondly, since both warlocks and priests want it, any pieces that make it to the AH won’t stay there for very long.
As for weapon upgrades, there are a few, most are BoE so keep an eye on the AH, and some drop in Uldaman and Zul’Farrak, but Bonebiter is still decent at level 45.
You have a lot of filter options when you browse the database on wowhead. Here you have all rare two-handed weapons with a level requirement of 40-50 that are usable by paladins.
Thanks.
Gold is pretty easy to come by. I don’t know how well the stuff sells at the AH, because I’d either disenchant it, or vendor it if i was in a hurry. The nice thing about outland is the the gray vendor trash is often worth a gold or two, and the greens you pick up can vendor from 3-5 gold, and the quests usually reward a handful of gold and are all close together and easy to do. I had a DK where I was easily picking up 100g a day just doing quests in outland and just vendoring all the drops, including the cloth and greens.
The quest to get the idols from the troggs is lvl 19 (I think). What level are you? Just because a quest is orange doesn’t mean it’s undoable…though it can be pretty painful. On the other hand, you’re not required to level only in your own racial lands…a quick trip to Stormwind on the tram, hop the ship to Auberdine in Stormwind Harbor, and you’re in Darkshore, which is gloomy, but has more quests than Loch Modan does.
(Here’s a secret…I personally hate Loch Modan, for pretty much the same reasons you’ve already given. The quest lines seem to top out fairly early. Now, it’s BETTER than it was, since they de-elited the ogres over on the other side of the Loch, but it’s still kind of meh.)
IIRC, there are a decent number of blue quest rewards from group quests and long chains (more than I remember from BC–even most of my off-spec DPS set was blue by the time I hit 80). There’s also a good spread of 5-man instances all the way from 70 to 80, so people can get better upgrades that way, too. Personally, while I was leveling my quest rewards and instance drops were always miles better than any green I could find on the AH. My leveling buddy was a chanter, and I don’t think there was a single time I grabbed a green drop as an upgrade instead of letting him DE it.
Also, I suspect enchanters don’t buy nearly as much random green stuff from NR as they do from earlier levels. Anecdotally, my DK bought tons of lower-level greens to level up his enchanting from pre-Outlands to Outlands-levels, and then bought a bunch of Outlands greens once he hit level 68 to bring him up to Northrend levels, but since then he’s relied on quest rewards and drops to get himself up to 424. This is partially because he’s working on his fast flyer, but even after that there’ll be the question of whether to buy greens to get those last 25 points (I assume the higher-level recipes are in Dalaran somewhere, and probably bought with marks of heroism or something, but I can burn that bridge when I come to it), or whether to buy titansteel stuff off of the AH or buy a nice shiny skeletal griffon or whatever.
Dream shards actually, 4 or 10 depending on the enchant, but you’re right about the vendor being in Dalaran
Ah, good, something to do with the 25+ dream shards I’ve collected. It’s gotten to the point where I dread a green item disenchanting into a dream shard.
I’ve given up putting things in the bank for the most part. Invariably I forget the item I need for a quest because I’ve put it in the bank. Bigger bags, however, are still a tad expensive at the AH. I have netherweave right now.
Going back to the herbalism topic: my lowbie human on Cairne has definitely found herbing profitable. He’s over 100 gold at level 26, despite twice having blown a bunch of cash in the AH on full sets of new gear.
I am thinking of trying out the Battlegrounds for the first time when I hit level 49, which one (if any) would you guys recommend for a PVP noob?
At 49, your available choices are Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin. Warsong Gulch is Capture the Flag, while Arathi Basin is landgrabbing, like CTF except the capture points are stationary.
I haven’t played Warsong Gulch, but I’d suggest that to start with, as CTF is easy to understand and you can play offense or defense without being too overwhelmed. More than likely there’ll be experienced players on the team, and you can let them worry about winning the game while you provide extra manpower by throwing yourself at enemies.
Defense is also good for newbies as it’s a bit slower-paced and you don’t have to worry about getting lost.
At level 51, go check out Alterac Valley. There’s a quest you can get at that level that gives you an excellent weapon of your choice for winning one battle, and since it’s 40 people on a team in AV, you don’t have to worry about contributing to any great extent to ensure your team wins. You’ll be on the low end of the bracket, so you’ll be dying a lot if you’re on offense, but any time they’re attacking you they’re not attacking the level 60s.
Netherweave should do you fine as long as you’re not carting around full extra armor sets. Really, the only things I keep in the bank are ones that I’m storing long-term, or quest/rep items I don’t plan on using soon.
FWIW, my bag organization is, right to left:
Backpack–Contains my hearthstone and any vendor trash.
Items of Worth–Anything to be sent to my mule to be auctioned or dropped in the gbank, or items to be DE’d by my chanter friend; may also contain quest items or random clothes (e.g., right now my fishing outfit is hanging out here)
Armor–My DPS set is in this bag, as well as side-grade items for my tanking set (e.g., avoidance pieces)
Alch/Herb–I have a stack of every kind of vial, plus Northrend herbs and the Life Wrath-mote-equivalents-I-can’t-remember-what-they’re-called. Lately, the fish to make Fish Feast can also be found here.
Consumables and Utility–Buff foods, regular food, bandages, flasks, potions, fishing pole, meat for cooking dailies, Northern Spices, etc.
Contrariwise, I’d suggest Arathi Basin. It’s easy to end up in a WSG battleground just sort of wandering around not knowing where to go or who to attack, whereas in Arathi there are usually a handful of fixed battles going on and you can just run to wherever you see a bunch of green and red names and pitch in.
I carry around my hearthstone, a stack of food for me and the pet, a stack of drinks, a bunch of ammo, herbs I gather along the way till I can make potions of them or sell them, a few healing and mana potions for times when eating and drinking aren’t as feasible, quest items for quests I’m doing right now, and my town outfit. I need to stop carrying the town outfit with me; since I only wear it in places like Ironforge and Stormwind, I can leave it in the bank. It’ll free up a little space. I just like carrying around a lot of stuff for some reason.
You do know that ammo stacks to a thousand now, right Telperien? Otherwise, based on your list, I can’t see why you wouldn’t have at least two or three full bags free for anything you loot, that you’d need to worry about upgrading to something larger.
